Mika ignored the question completely.
Instead, he turned back to the window, and when he spoke again, his voice became softer and more contemplative.

Charlotte blinked. "What?"

He nodded towards the News Years party outside.
"In a place like a hospital, where death is looming everywhere and every breath could be someone's last, they're still finding joy."
"Little children playing tag, giggling and laughing without a care in the world. Adults giving each other hope about their conditions, about their children's futures. Elderly people eating cake, not knowing whether they'll survive past this day."
He turned slightly, just enough for them to see the curve of his smile.
"Isn't that heartwarming?" He asked. "Isn't that the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?"
