"Impressive defense," Sasuke admitted, surprised.

He knew how lethal Konoha Dragon God could be—anyone else would have been shredded.

"There's a special layer of sand coating his body," Neji said, activating his Byakugan.

"He won't last much longer," Shino added, adjusting his glasses.

"Cracks are already showing." Hinata opened her Byakugan as well.

At that moment Kitazawa appeared in front of Gaara. Naruto stopped spinning and dispelled the Konoha Dragon God. With a Body Flicker, Kitazawa moved to the edge of the training ground. Left alone, Gaara collapsed, panting and visibly shaken.

"Naruto's the Nine-Tails' Jinchuriki—fighting him isn't fair," Kitazawa said, placing a hand on Gaara to heal him. "I'll give you a different opponent: Kurama Yakumo."

Gaara blinked but had to admit it made sense—Naruto had simply overwhelmed him with endless chakra.

"Yakumo, spar with him," Kitazawa instructed.

"Yes, Kitazawa-sensei," Yakumo replied, surprised but stepping forward.

Relieved of that crushing chakra pressure, Gaara breathed easier. He still believed Konoha had only one Jinchuriki—the Nine-Tails and nobody stronger his age.

"Think he can resist Yakumo's genjutsu?" Kiba asked.

"Not a chance," Sasuke said flatly. After awakening his Mangekyō Sharingan, he finally understood how absurd her illusions were; before, he'd never broken free. Now he wasn't worried—his Mangekyō put him on her level.

"No need to debate—he's already caught," Tayuya observed, watching Gaara frozen in place.

Kimimaro shook his head, seeing his past self in Gaara. Strong, yes, but still a step below true genius.

"One-sided fight," Ino sighed.

"Well, it is Yakumo," Sakura added.

Kitazawa smiled. To him, of Yakumo's three genjutsu only Illusion Technique: True Life fell short—Horror Illusion and Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique rivaled Mangekyō ocular powers. Without One-Tail Shukaku, Gaara stood no chance.

The match ended; Yakumo released the illusion. Gaara collapsed again, drenched in sweat as if dragged from a river. He stared at her with a hint of fear—because of his earlier boasting, she'd shown no mercy, using Horror Illusion and Demonic Illusion together.

"Gaara, I'll give you one last chance," Kitazawa said, healing him again. "Next, you'll spar with Sasuke."

Gaara's bravado was gone; two straight losses had shown him how extraordinary these Genius Class students were.

"Sasuke," Kitazawa called after finishing the healing.

Sasuke stepped onto the field. Gaara clenched his fists and stood.

"I won't use genjutsu on you—wouldn't want you crying foul," Sasuke said coolly.

Gaara frowned—this guy felt as arrogant as he had been. He snorted, raised his hand, and sent countless grains of sand surging into a giant hand that reached for Sasuke.

"Too slow." Sasuke activated his Mangekyō Sharingan and slipped clear. He drew the thunder god sword and accelerated.

Gaara's heart jumped—what were those eyes now? He hastily pulled sand up as a shield, but Sasuke was already on him.

Sasuke's blade struck toward Gaara's heart, only to be stopped by the armor of sand coating his body.

"Lightning Release: Chidori Blade!" Sasuke formed a one-handed seal; a shrill chirp rang out as lightning raced along the sword and pierced the armor. Blood seeped through.

Gaara screamed in rage and hurled all his sand at Sasuke. Futile. Sasuke vanished before his eyes. Instinctively, Gaara froze and glanced around.

Violent chakra fluctuations erupted behind him. He spun and saw Sasuke there.

"Yin Release: Rasengan!"

Without hesitation Sasuke raised a huge Rasengan and slammed it into Gaara's back. It happened so fast Gaara had no time to react. His mother Karura's sand shielded him instinctively, but even so he was launched through the air.

Gaara crashed to the ground, a burning pain spreading across his back.

"You lose, Gaara." Sasuke lifted his hand; brilliant lightning crackled with a piercing shriek. Gaara's defense had been strong, but not absolute. The decisive factor was Sasuke's Mangekyō Sharingan—every move Gaara made was seen through. Coupled with the spatial instant shift, Sasuke defeated him easily.

"Sasuke-kun can teleport?" Sakura's eyes went wide.

"Could it be the Flying Thunder God?" Kiba blurted, stunned.

"It's not the Flying Thunder God," Shikamaru said after a pause. "But it's some kind of space-time Ninjutsu."

"Sasuke learned space–time ninjutsu?" Ino's voice was sharp. "When? How come I didn't know?"

"His eyes aren't the three-tomoe Sharingan, but they look even stronger," Shino noted, catching the crucial detail.

"It's the Mangekyo Sharingan!" Naruto shouted, flinging a big thumbs-up. "As expected of my lifelong rival—truly troublesome youth!"

He hadn't even fought him yet, but he could already imagine how aggravating a space–time Ninjutsu would be—like the Flying Thunder God. Still, the stronger Sasuke grew, the more excited Naruto felt.

"What's a Mangekyo Sharingan?" Chino asked curiously. Her Blood Dragon Eye rivaled the Sharingan, yet she'd never heard of it.

"It's the evolution of the Three–Tomoe Sharingan," Naruto said, scratching his head. "Details? No idea."

"So the Three–Tomoe Sharingan can evolve?" Kiba muttered. "You monsters!"

Neji's fists clenched. He was completely behind Sasuke now. The Byakugan gave him near 360-degree vision, but reacting to sudden spatial displacement was almost impossible. Add the Mangekyo Sharingan's genjutsu on top of that and he didn't see how he'd cope. Why didn't the Byakugan have an evolution? A sick sense of defeat washed over him.

Kimimaro felt powerless as well—his Shikotsumyaku offered no counters to the Mangekyo. Tayuya had already given up; however Sasuke strengthened, she couldn't win.

"Sparring's over—everyone, back to training." Kitazawa clapped.

"Yes, Kitazawa-sensei." The Genius Class dispersed, Sasuke included.

Kitazawa knelt beside Gaara and reached out to heal him again. Gaara said nothing.

"All three of them are about your age," Kitazawa added.

"I lost. Do with me as you wish," Gaara replied flatly.

"Starting tomorrow, you'll attend school with them," Kitazawa said with a smile.

"What?" Gaara's surprise was obvious—he'd thought he misheard.

"Having second thoughts?" Kitazawa asked. "I won't go back on my word."

Gaara blinked. "I'll be here tomorrow."

[Current Quest: Have Gaara join the Genius Class.]

[Reward: Mastery-level Wind Release Chakra nature transformation.]

[Quest completed. Reward issued.]

Kitazawa read the three lines hovering before him and nodded. Only Earth and Fire Release remained below mastery. Once all seven natures reached mastery, maybe a new ability would appear—something like casually forming truth-seeking orbs.

"Let's go." Kitazawa stood. "I've arranged a place for you nearby."

They left the Ninja Academy and reached a two–story house in under three minutes. "To make commuting easy, I found somewhere close," Kitazawa said, unlocking the door.

Gaara stepped inside wordlessly. He made no demands about lodging; silence suited him. Kitazawa said nothing more. Once Gaara grew used to Naruto and the others, his personality would shift—his original nature had been warped by Rasa's cruel experiments.

"Rest well." Kitazawa handed him the key and smiled. "See you tomorrow."

Then, with the Flying Thunder God, he vanished. He reappeared already in the ANBU base—he'd been visiting daily. He couldn't risk missing the Akatsuki's moves.

He picked up a file from a desk and skimmed it, brow rising. For the first time, an Akatsuki attempt to capture a Tailed Beast had failed. They'd struck at the Two–Tails' Jinchuriki Nii Yugito and the Eight–Tails' Killer B; a failure in either case was plausible. But the real reason was Kitazawa's timeline shifts. Those changes had made the Hidden Cloud concentrate protection on Yugito and B, and with the Fourth Raikage and other shinobi joining the fight, the Akatsuki had been repelled.

Kitazawa rubbed his chin. At this rate, the Five Kage Summit couldn't be far off—soon the five great ninja villages would realize no single village could defeat the Akatsuki. He had no intention of attending any summit, though. He set the file down and headed to the Forest of Death to train.

The next day, Gaara arrived at the Ninja Academy on time. After Kitazawa announced his enrollment, Naruto and the others accepted him—but for now, Gaara still struggled to adjust.

Kitazawa favored a semi–free‑range approach with Gaara.

Where most Jinchuriki grew exponentially after gaining their Tailed Beast, Gaara had been the inverse—he climbed to Kage‑level power in a remarkably short time without Shukaku. And he'd done it without a teacher; Rasa and Chiyo were already dead in the original timeline. That alone spoke to how frightening Gaara's talent was.

There was another reason, though. Kitazawa lacked Gaara's innate sand control, but his own strength and expertise made guiding the boy easy. Gaara's enrollment didn't slow the Genius Class or disrupt Kitazawa's regimen.

March came. Sasuke rejoined the Genius Class for training, and Kitazawa knew what his next mission would be: perform surgery on him. It wouldn't be simple. In the original story people joked Sharingan or Byakugan were plug‑and‑play—nothing that straightforward this time.

Hokage Office.

Kitazawa entered after getting permission.

"Learned how to knock today?" Tsunade asked as she set papers on the desk.

"I was afraid I'd disturb your work," Kitazawa said, explaining himself.

"Nothing urgent today." Tsunade smiled and rose. "Have a seat."

"I have serious business," Kitazawa cleared his throat and sat in the Hokage chair.

"This is the Hokage office—what are you thinking?" Tsunade rolled her eyes, then plopped onto his lap. "What did you need?"

"Ever heard of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan?" Kitazawa asked, slipping his arms around her waist as he spoke.

"Second Grandpa mentioned it in his research, but he wasn't clear on the details." Tsunade meant Tobirama. Tobirama had studied the Sharingan and Mangekyo extensively, but only Madara ever possessed the Eternal Mangekyo, so Tobirama never had a chance to examine it. After Madara staged his death at the Valley of the End, Tobirama could have investigated—most likely Hashirama stopped him. That had allowed Madara to revive himself with Izanagi.

"I just visited the Uchiha Clan." Kitazawa kissed her cheek and began to explain what he'd learned about the Eternal Mangekyo. Tsunade unconsciously licked the corner of her mouth; each touch from him sent her thoughts wandering to places she shouldn't go and left her with a faint, guilty itch.

"Focus." Kitazawa patted her chest, making her clothes ripple. Tsunade shivered and blinked, coming back into herself. "Teacher and student haven't performed surgery together in ages," he said. "Let's handle Sasuke's operation together, all right?"

He wanted to use technical methods to raise Sasuke's chances of awakening the Eternal Mangekyo—any small increase would be worth it.

"Do I have any reason to refuse?" Tsunade countered, already upright. "When are you free? We can draft a treatment plan."

Kitazawa hesitated. "Things are a bit unusual right now."

She leaned against him. "The Akatsuki have been quiet; I worry they're preparing something bigger."

"Their goal is clear—capture the Tailed Beasts. We just need to protect Naruto." Kitazawa pinched her cheek. "With the Third Hokage and the others around, Naruto will be fine."

"True, but none of the Akatsuki are simple." Tsunade shook her head. "I suspect the current roster isn't even all of them."

'You guessed right,' Kitazawa thought. As the Eye of the Moon Plan unfolded, many Akatsuki members had become known to the villages, but some never appeared—Nagato and Zetsu among them. Thanks to Kitazawa's interference, the main operatives now hunting Tailed Beasts were Kakuzu and Tobi—Uchiha Obito—instead of the original team of Kakuzu, Itachi, and Kisame.
