Rachel stared at Zakthar.
For days, he had lain unconscious since they brought him from the Golden Nugget Hotel. He had taken a blow to the head, and each time she came to check on him, she found him in the same position.
Now his eyelids were moving.
A low groan escaped him. His eyes opened slowly, unfocused at first. They were green, Rachel noticed, though it took him several seconds to see anything clearly.
"Zakthar?"
He did not answer.
Instead, he began speaking in a language Rachel had never heard. The words came out thickly, interrupted by another pained groan as he tried to turn his head.
Starakian, she assumed.
Zakthar looked around the unfamiliar room. His gaze passed over the window, the door, and the walls before falling on the two people beside his bed.
He saw Ivy first.
Then Rachel.
His eyes widened.
