Chapter 40 - Chapter 38: The Seer

[Reika] Do you have any idea how worried I was?! You disappear for days without letting me know where you're going and now have the nerve to just waltz back here like nothing happened!

Sakyo can only continue to kneel in front of her, taking all of her anger head on. Reika finally calms down after berating him for almost an hour.

[Reika] So, what do you have to say for yourself?

[Sakyo] Well, it's a long story...

[Reika] Make it quick.

[Sakyo] We took a vacation to Raynemor, and I started having weird dreams, so I explored some ruins and found an old sword.

[Reika] ...Maybe not that quick. What do you mean weird dreams?

[Sakyo] I kept having these dreams about a place I'd never seen before. Garm suggested I try making a gate to that place, and it worked. We all explored those ruins, and I found this sword at the end of it.

He presents her with the sword, but as she goes to lift it, it doesn't budge from his hands.

[Reika] Why is it so heavy?

[Sakyo] Strange, it was the same way with Garm and Naja. It doesn't feel heavy to me, so maybe I'm the only one who can lift it.

[Reika] Well, it's still a nice blade. It looks like one of those katanas they make in the far east, though I've never seen one with a reversed blade like this before.

[Sakyo] Back to why I'm here. I wanted to tell you that I'll be staying at Raynemor for a while. I want to find out why I was having those dreams, and if there really is a connection between the misty city and those ruins.

[Reika] (sigh) I guess it makes sense. I can't deny that I'd be curious if all this happened to me.

Reika's crossed arms tighten as she struggles to find the strength to say something.

[Reika] I might know someone who knows about visions like the ones you had.

[Sakyo] Really? Where?

[Reika] They're right here in the castle. Follow me.

She leads him to a part of the castle he'd never been before. They go to an underground chamber, beyond where any guards are stationed.

[Reika] We're going to see The Seer. She's the royal oracle of our kingdom.

[Sakyo] So she'll really know about the visions I had?

[Reika] It's possible. She has a unique bloodline ability, one that has helped the kingdom thrive for years: {Mystic Eyes}.

[Sakyo] Mystic eyes? What makes it such a unique bloodline ability?

[Reika] No one in her family has the same eyes. The {Mystic Eyes} are unique because they're an ability that changes with each person they belong to. One could see a persons true nature at a glance. Another could see the history of ancient artifacts. Eliora's eyes can see the future.

[Sakyo] (Future vision?!)

[Reika] No matter the person or item, she can see its future, even without having seen them herself.

[Sakyo] That does seem like it's similar to what I saw, but how reliable is her future vision?

She doesn't answer, at least not right away.

[Reika] ...Once. There was only ever one time her future vision was wrong.

[Sakyo] I see.

He doesn't pry further, continuing to walk in silence that is only broken once they reach the end of the hallway.

[Reika] Here we are. She'll know you're coming, so no need to knock.

[Sakyo] Aren't you gonna come too?

[Reika] No, we're not exactly on speaking terms anymore.

Without questioning her, Sakyo opens the doors and walks into the Seer's chambers. It's a small room, decorated with multiple blankets and rugs. In one corner, free from any window's light, sits an elegant looking woman draped in robes. Blue colored hair parted to each side. Despite a blindfold covering her eyes, her beauty easily passes through.

[Eliora] Welcome, I've been expecting you, Sakyo. I see Reika still hasn't forgiven me.

She stands slowly, carefully making her way down her elevated corner. It's only three steps, but she treats them with utmost caution.

[Eliora] You've come to me to learn of your own visions, correct? As the kingdom's oracle, I will assist you to the best of- Ack!

[Sakyo] (...She tripped.)

[Eliora] Damn that third step. My mortal enemy.

She cursed under her breath, wiping her robe clean as Sakyo helps her back on her feet.

[Eliora] Thank you. (ahem) As I was saying, I will tell you what you want to know about your visions.

[Sakyo] (Is she just gonna pretend that didn't happen.)

[Eliora] Yes, I will.

[Sakyo] ...What?

[Eliora] Oh sorry, this must've been the one where you didn't say that out loud. It can get a bit confusing sometimes.

[Sakyo] Ok, now I'm curious. How exactly does your future vision work?

[Eliora] It's exactly as you think. My {Mystic Eyes} allow me to see the future of everything. I see all that could happen, no matter who or what.

[Sakyo] "Could" implies that it's not guaranteed.

[Eliora] (chuckle) You're as sharp as I foresaw. It's true, my visions don't show me the future that will happen. I see the ones that are most likely to occur, though I can see less likely outcomes if I focus.

[Sakyo] Is there a limit to your ability? Like how far you can see, or how many you can see at a time?

[Eliora] No, I can see to the end of time if I so choose, though that doesn't mean I want to see that far. There are infinite futures for everything, and I can see them all.

[Sakyo] Yet you couldn't see that third step?

He teases, but there's still more curiosity in his eyes.

[Eliora] The present has always eluded me. Sometimes it can be hard to adjust my current actions with those I see myself making.

[Sakyo] Is that why you wear a blindfold?

[Eliora] Yes, it gives me a headache trying to explain to everyone why I can't see even with my eyes wide open. Besides, it's not as limiting as you might think. I can't see normally with these {Mystic Eyes}, so I mostly rely on my visions to see. My only limit is one second in the future. No less than that.

[Sakyo] I see, so you have to delay all of your movements by one second, otherwise you end up tripping like that.

A slight blush crosses her face, though she tries to compose herself once more.

[Eliora] I-I would appreciate if you forgot that little mishap of mine. Let's get back to why you're here. You want to know about those visions you had, believing they were similar to mine of the future, correct?

[Sakyo] Yeah, those dreams were so clear, exactly the same when I got there too. I was wondering if there's any way they're like yours.

[Eliora] No, I've already looked, and your visions are not like mine. They are artificial, made by that sword you carry, as well as your own ability.

[Sakyo] Uramasa? So that voice I heard wasn't just my imagination.

[Eliora] No, those voices in your head remain just the four of you.

[Sakyo] Four?

[Eliora] Oops, I forgot the fourth one is still two years away.

[Sakyo] (Great, first a shadow, then a sword, and now I'll get another one.) I get that Uramasa made those visions, but I still don't understand how.

[Eliora] Hmm, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. The sword did not make those visions. She just awakened them.

[Sakyo] Awakened? What does that mean?

[Eliora] It's rather difficult to explain, but you will find the answer when you open your status.

[Sakyo] Alright, [Status Open].

[Sakyo] Timeless scream? I've never seen this one before. {Appraisal}.

{Timeless Scream}: You hear the echoes of time: past, present, and future.

[Eliora] As you can see, it is different from my {Mystic Eyes}. I only see the future, but you can see past, present, and future, though it appears you don't have control over when you get these visions.

[Sakyo] Yeah, I guess so, but this doesn't give me much of an explanation. I still don't know why those visions only happened in my sleep, or why I woke up with a headache afterwards.

[Eliora] I'm not sure about the sleep, but the headaches were most likely from the mental strain visions can cause. The sudden intrusion of information can be taxing if you're not used to it.

[Sakyo] Do your visions cause that too?

[Eliora] They used to, but not anymore. I've had them for 25 years, so I've gotten used to them.

[Sakyo] Wow, that's a long time. (Especially without being able to turn off the ability.)

[Eliora] I know what you're thinking, and it's quite rude. I may be past my prime, but I have done my best to retain my beauty. Even if I haven't found a husband yet, I still have time to birth an heir for my family.

[Sakyo] I was actually thinking that it's impressive you're able to live with an ability that can't be turned off. I have to admire such dedication in a woman. (I can see it clearly, I can't copy her ability. It's active right now, and she hasn't turned it off since I came in here. The flow of her ability is wired through her eyes and brain, and I can't find any visual cues to make a base copy.)

[Eliora] Oh, I-I see...

A slight blush crosses under her blindfold. She tries to hide it, but even her ears are rosy red right now.

[Eliora] I-I believe that was everything you wanted to know, so I suppose you'll be on your way now.

[Sakyo] Before I go, I just have to ask something. Is there anything else about my future you can tell me?

[Eliora] Hmm, that werewolf butler of yours. Garm, was his name? Tell him to wear a shirt more often when working the fields, otherwise his wife will not be able to control herself.

[Sakyo] You mean Kaya? I guess that makes sense, but is that really all?

[Eliora] I may see every future, but there are limits to what I can tell you. If you know what will happen, it might not happen. That's why I became so good at keeping secrets. Well, that and... one other reason.

[Sakyo] Does that other reason have to do with why my mom didn't want to come in here?

[Eliora] ...I see this is one where she hasn't told you. I suppose this is one secret I have never been able to keep.
