Chapter 174 - 174 Dream Gate

Drifting around his mental space Chronos immediately noticed that it was nearly twice as large compared to before.

He had been practicing the Memory Imprinting Method during his regular training, but he hadn't expected it to give such significant results in such a short time.

Other than the size of his mental space, he saw swords, spears, axes, hammers, daggers and other weapon images floating around his mind in an incomplete state. The failed results of his training.

Sooner or later, he would have to clean up this mess perhaps make a mental armory for them, but he had been too busy handling other problems to pay attention to them recently.

He wondered if having so many weapon images floating in his mind might be bad while idly watching one fly close to the wall of his mental space.

Flash! Scree!

Upon touching the wall, a screeching sound like dragging fingernails across a blackboard echoed through his mind momentarily. Then he felt a slight migraine that disappeared the next second as he healed.

"No wonder I've been having so many minor headaches." He muttered before flying over to check the damage.

On the wall of his mental space there was a faint white scratch that was rapidly disappearing as his strong healing ability removed any damage. Carefully examining the wall, he realized that even though it was a little painful and annoying it did slightly expand his mental space with each collision.

No wonder it had doubled in size in such a short period of time.

Perhaps in the near future he could use powers like telekinesis or telepathy, or maybe he would gain some unique mental power. Maybe this enhanced mental space was why he had the time to think of random things in combat without losing track of the battle.

But he couldn't help worrying that such a vicious method would have long term effects on his mind.

He would need to consult with an expert once he reached the capital.

More importantly wandering through his mental space he found a corner of it that was connected with another layer. He had no idea how or why his mind had opened a path to another layer but there it was and now he had to deal with the consequences.

Looking into this layer he realized that it was connected to the dream sub-layer, and it seemed like he could enter that layer with a bit more work and the power of his bloodline.

But right now, his mind wasn't strong enough to enter it without severe consequences.

"This is interesting. I was already connected to the thought sub-layer when I first learned to enter my mental space, but I didn't have any connection to the dream sub-layer in the past. I think I'm connecting to sub-layers related to the mental main layer that supports the world one by one.

Is this due to my inherent talents or is the way I've approached layers wrong? Hm, regardless of how I've done it the next layer I might connect to would be the memory sub-layer. With that I'll have connected to all of the major sub-layers of the mental layer. After that I can try touching the mental layer directly." Chronos theorized.

Once he had touched upon the mental main layer, he should be able to use powerful spells related to that layer. Which would be a significant change for him since almost all of his combat methods were techniques using aura or bloodline power instead of magic.

But this would also cause a huge number of problems for him with the power source being the biggest problem.

Aura was great, it could strengthen the body and make an individual near unkillable as they grew stronger. Even after death a powerful aura users' body wouldn't rot for decades, some not for centuries, but it was limited both in what element could be used and how far it could reach.

On the other hand, magic was extremely versatile being capable of using almost any element and its reach was anywhere the caster could see or farther. The major drawback of magic was that it couldn't strengthen the body like aura could, making casters very weak in close combat.

While bloodline power was something of a fusion between the two resulting in each bloodline having different unique powers. This was why Chronos could use spatial spells and powers from a distance even though he hadn't implemented them in his combat style yet.

Thinking about all the different powers was giving Chronos a headache again.

"Can't there be just one power source for everything?" He complained before turning back to the dream sub-layer.

The connection was filled with leaves and tree trunks then suddenly shifted to show a few deer dancing on two legs then shifted again to show a nightmarish creature that looked like a floating head with one eye and the hair were tentacles that gently floated around it.

It looked at him then spoke with a scratchy voice like an old noble lady.

"It's rude to stare. Hmph." Pompously turning around, it wandered off somewhere into the dream layer.

Chronos was too shocked by its sudden actions to react before it was out of sight.

"Okay, so there are living creatures in the dream layer. I'll have to be more careful from now on, which means I need to block this connection somehow. Maybe I can use the Memory Imprinting Method to seal it or put a door on it?"

Looking at the connection, he started materializing a door to place over it. It wouldn't be perfect but if they had to knock before coming in it would at least give him a warning that something was coming.

Once he had imagined a basic sturdy metal door, he placed it over the connection, but the light of the dream sub-layer kept seeping in around the sides.

That wouldn't do. He needed to block all of it if he wanted to restore his peaceful nights again.

Touching the sides he started imagining large sturdy stone pillars but that seemed too boring, so he added wolves climbing up the pillars and changed the door to have a wolf's image on it. As he worked, he slowly fell into a trance.

Without his knowing his bloodline reacted and started affecting the gate he was creating, imbuing it with a portion of his bloodline's power.

By the time he awakened from his trance the door had become a proper gate and was far more impressive than he had intended it to be.

It was a tall and powerful gate with wolves climbing its pillars waiting for something to hunt while the wolf's image on the door was so realistic that he thought it might come to life and try to bite him or anything else that came through the gate.

It gave off a faint light; however, he could tell that the light wasn't coming from the dream sub-layer but from the gate itself and was suppressing the dream sub-layers intrusion.

"Well, this is better than I thought. It should be able to protect my mind from unwanted visitors or those strange dreams I've been having."

He stood there admiring his work for a bit longer before deciding to leave his mental space.
