Trunk stared at Nightflame, his eyes wide with shock and disbelief. Life was slipping from his body in slow, painful pulses.
He was dying.
He was never supposed to die like this.
He had planned everything so carefully, a crazy deal that would let him live large for years, safe and rich in this cruel grey universe.
None of those bright futures waited for him now.
The only thing he saw in his final moments was Nightflame's cold, emotionless face.
"Your fear… I will have it," Nightflame said coldly.
He reached out with his power and drank deeply from the terror pouring out of Trunk.
The fear flowed into him like warm nectar, rich and satisfying, until Trunk was completely drained, empty, hollow, and lifeless.
The moment Trunk's body went limp, Nightflame found himself surrounded on all sides by countless guards. Weapons gleamed. Eyes burned with rage and fear.
