My vision blurred without warning.
"Am I a terrible person?" I asked quietly, the words slipping out before I could stop them. "All I ever do is hurt people… even him who genuinely cared about me, even saved my life. I don't know where I would be right now if he hadn't."
Fenris's expression softened immediately.
"You would still be here with me," he said firmly, but not unkindly. "Because we are destined to be together. We would have found each other no matter where we were, no matter how far apart or how different our worlds were. Our lives were never meant to be complete without each other. And I'm not saying that's the only reason we're together. We genuinely love each other and want to be together. The bond just intensifies what's already there. Because there are people who are mated and still don't love each other, but we do."
He stepped closer, his voice steady as he continued.
