Just as Mo Xuan had had his fun and was about to leave this place of endless amusement, the sound of a sonic boom echoed in the distance. Someone was breaking the sound barrier, rushing towards him.
Mo Xuan leaned back slightly, easily dodging a tachi that trailed an icy mist. The blade passed just in front of his neck, the cold air spreading around him. In that instant, he reached out and lightly touched the blade, activating his gravity powers.
"1000 times."
With the activation of his ability, Hoshimi Miyabi, who had flown in as lightly as a butterfly, suddenly felt her tachi become impossibly heavy. She was dragged down with it, unable to maintain her graceful posture.
Hoshimi Miyabi was now kneeling on one knee, her right hand still gripping the hilt of her sword. As a swordswoman, her hand would never leave her weapon unless she was dead. The tachi was now so heavy that she couldn't lift it. She could only let the tip slam into the ground, holding it at an angle.
Mo Xuan stepped onto the back of the blade. He bent his body slightly, resting his right elbow on his right knee, and leaned down to speak to the now close-at-hand Hoshimi Miyabi.
"Sneak attacks are not very nice."
"I thought you were an egg that could be added directly to rice, but your actions can only waste a bowl of rice," Hoshimi Miyabi said, her bright eyes fixed on Mo Xuan. Her tone was cold, as if she was angry, but there was no hatred in her eyes. She only saw him as a rival.
"You still talk in such abstract terms," Mo Xuan said, scratching his head. It took him a moment to realize that Hoshimi Miyabi was calling him a "bad egg," the inedible kind. It was a difficult conversation to follow.
So, Mo Xuan decided not to talk to her at all. He activated his spatial abilities and teleported her, along with her sword, away.
When Hoshimi Miyabi's vision cleared, she found herself far from Hollow Zero. From her position, she could only see the black dome of the Hollow in the distance. She was surrounded by a barren wasteland, with a few lonely cacti standing upright. She had no idea where she was.
"You're far from the city. I'd advise you to save your energy for the run back," Mo Xuan said, releasing the gravity on Hoshimi Miyabi's tachi, allowing her to lift it.
Hoshimi Miyabi thought for a moment, but ultimately decided not to attack again.
"Why did you kill him?" she asked.
"Because they pointed a gun at me."
"They couldn't have hurt you."
"I'm curious, what would you have done in that situation? Would you have just gone with them obediently?" Mo Xuan asked, tilting his head at Hoshimi Miyabi. If she said something like "good people should let themselves be held at gunpoint," he would have to beat her up before he left today.
"I would have fought back, but I wouldn't have killed anyone. The black hole you created over New Eridu could have hurt innocent people. That's not good. Not good at all," Hoshimi Miyabi said, shaking her head. She had a temper too, and wouldn't be threatened. But within certain limits, she would choose to compromise.
"I was just trying to scare them. If I had really wanted to, the city would have been destroyed long ago. I wouldn't have waited until now," Mo Xuan said, annoyed.
"You should save that kind of power for dealing with the Hollows," Hoshimi Miyabi said. She knew that Mo Xuan hadn't intended to cause mass destruction, otherwise more than just one Hollow Hunter would have come for him. She just thought it was a waste.
"Why don't you guess what I was about to do before they stopped me?"
"Eat," Hoshimi Miyabi said with certainty.
Mo Xuan put his hand to his head. This woman was another conversation killer. He wondered how she and Zhu Yuan ever managed to talk when they were roommates.
"I was going to Hollow Zero. With my power, I could have shrunk it by at least fifty kilometers. Now that power has been wasted on those people. It's gone." Mo Xuan placed a hand on Hoshimi Miyabi's shoulder and slowly clenched his other fist in front of her.
Her gaze shifted slightly, as if she felt a pang of guilt. This was, after all, a mistake made by the New Eridu leadership.
"Listen, Hoshimi Miyabi, I'm not a good person. I'm a villain. I don't like being held at gunpoint, so I acted. If you're a Hollow Hunter with any influence, tell those people not to test me again. Next time, it won't be just a warning." Mo Xuan released Hoshimi Miyabi and prepared to leave her there alone.
"It's a shame. Our relationship could have been like coffee with milk, but now it's like chili and bitter melon," Hoshimi Miyabi said with a sigh.
Her words made Mo Xuan want to pick her up and shake her until she made sense.
"Speak English."
"You could have been the eighth Hollow Hunter."
"Not interested. You're just working for someone else, just like them. There's no freedom in that." With that, Mo Xuan vanished from before Hoshimi Miyabi.
She stood there, holding her tachi, feeling a little lost. Running all the way back by herself would be a challenge in itself.
Mo Xuan returned to the place he had left. The people there saw him appear alone, and their scalps tingled. To them, it looked like the Mysterious Rider had taken Hoshimi Miyabi hostage and had probably already disposed of her. Not even a Hollow Hunter could stop him.
"I've had my fun for today. Ciao~" Mo Xuan waved his right hand. A black hole appeared, but this time, instead of sucking something in, it spat something out.
Mr. Nanba fell out of it, rolled a few times on the ground, and twitched. He was still breathing, but his clothes were gone.
After tossing Mr. Nanba out, Mo Xuan turned and walked into the black hole. As it closed, he disappeared completely. Everyone present breathed a sigh of relief. The god of death had finally left. Mr. Nanba wasn't dead, and it seemed the earlier pledge of allegiance had just been a game to him. His malevolent nature was clear.
Zhu Yuan also breathed a silent sigh of relief when the Mysterious Rider left. But just as she thought, he hadn't killed anyone this time. It seemed to be more about having fun.
"Zhu Yuan, don't look. It'll burn your eyes," a hand reached out and covered Zhu Yuan's eyes. Her body tensed for a moment, but the voice was familiar.
"Mo Xuan, stop messing around," Zhu Yuan said.
"I'm not. That old guy's naked right now. You don't want to see that," Mo Xuan said, still covering her eyes as he turned her around.
Zhu Yuan had wanted to see how Mr. Nanba was doing, but Mo Xuan's actions left her speechless. She had seen it all. Was he really worried about her seeing something "eye-burning"?
"Waaaaah!" Mr. Nanba was crying like a kindergartener. A man of his stature and power shouldn't have lost his composure like this, even in the face of death. But he had just experienced something more terrifying than death.
"Why is he crying like that?" Zhu Yuan asked, confused.
"I don't know. Maybe he's afraid of death," Mo Xuan said. Of course, he knew exactly what had happened. The black hole he had created earlier didn't cause physical harm, but inside, there was no light, no sound, only endless darkness. Time seemed to stand still. A minute in there felt like an hour. The fear of not knowing how long he would be trapped in that dark space was enough to drive an adult insane.
