Chapter 279 - Do I Have to Admit Defeat?!

Relying on raw magical power to crush an opponent was actually quite simple: just select spells that constantly draw on magical energy and overwhelm the enemy. Dumbledore's walls of fire against dark creatures were a perfect example, though back then, Dumbledore expended far less magical energy.

Now, under Professor Xue's summoning, massive amounts of magic-infused water floated in the air, slowly and steadily bearing down on Allen. These watery forces not only attacked but also had defensive properties. The dozens of spells Allen casually launched were gradually eroded and eventually dissipated within the water. Clearly, if he didn't act, he'd soon be overwhelmed and helpless.

Of course, this plan wasn't foolproof, if Allen activated Morgana's shield, Xue would realize that his watery prison couldn't control Allen. Allen wouldn't just walk freely, he could run.

Still, just as the professor didn't want to use overly destructive magic that might draw unwanted attention, Allen didn't intend to rely on inherited magic to bully anyone. That didn't mean he was foolish enough to simply tank the attack with an Iron Armor spell.

Tapping his wand on the surrounding trees, Allen caused the vines and roots to weave rapidly into a loose net that shot toward Professor Xue. The magic-infused water, passing through this net, had its energy absorbed to fuel the growth of the giant plant barrier. Water depleted of magic fell to the ground, greedily consumed by the roots.

As one of the few plant spells not considered dark magic, Allen had invested heavily in Zyra's legacy. Naturally, with money now in hand, he had purchased a hero's legacy compatible with Zyra, Maokai, the Twisted Treant.

Currently, Allen is still studying this legacy. The magic being used here was a small experimental combination. As for Ivern's legacy, his energy was limited, so he focused entirely on mastering Zyra-Maokai first.

This plant-based countermeasure clearly exceeded the professor's expectations. Realizing that Allen's shield could probably absorb the water's magic, Professor Xue conjured a cyan water dummy nearby and repositioned himself several meters away.

But he didn't look worried, rather, he looked eager. Pulling a handful of highly magical, gem-like objects from his pocket, he quickly selected a deep red, flame-like gem. With a few precise movements on his wand, a sky-blue gem shot from the wand. Who even manages to embed such a huge gem in a wand?

Wait, Allen realized a troubling possibility.

Sure enough, as the ruby embedded, the professor's original cyan shield transformed into a blazing red shield of fire with a flick of his wand.

Is this allowed?

Coach, he's cheating!!!

Switching elemental affinity mid-battle? Could he be any more shameless?

Luckily, it wasn't a full elemental transformation. The dozens of fiery ropes now attacking Allen were weaker than the previous water, since even though the wand core had changed, Professor Xue still excelled at water magic, hence the original core being water.

Still, with elemental advantage, these fire ropes were more dangerous than before. Allen's summoned plants could ignore normal flames, but these fire spells were a different matter.

So now… do I pull out another legacy?

Ha! He had plenty of legacies available, but how powerful could they be now? The opponent was still a water-specialist wizard. This was basically serving him a meal on a silver platter.

The magical world is getting scarier and scarier, where do these perverts even come from?

Was he about to unleash a magical burst strong enough to alert the Headmaster and others?

Other spells in Allen's repertoire that surpassed his understanding of Zyra's legacy… cough cough… were all dark-magic oriented. Using them would be self-destructive.

If only I had more money…

While grumbling, a golden shield ignited around Allen, Solar Eclipse of the Dawn Goddess, and he summoned several runes with his wand. Since he couldn't exploit elemental advantage, he'd fight directly. As the earliest hero legacy he mastered, Ryze's legacy was complex and resistant to counters. Pure energy charges generated by the rune collisions met the fire ropes head-on, intersecting seamlessly.

Allen's free hand wasn't idle either, quick hand signs unleashed harassment spells toward the professor.

However, the professor, slightly weakening the fire ropes, countered again. The reduced power was still too strong for Allen to suppress with runic magic.

After exchanging dozens of spells, both realized one thing: if neither increased spell intensity, this back-and-forth would solve nothing.

"Wait, this little Hogwarts brat, this isn't going to work. If we continue, we'll be at it until dawn, and I don't have that kind of time. An old man like me needs rest," the professor said, casually maintaining his magical output. Clearly, he had plenty of energy to sustain this spell.

"Alright, Professor, your point is valid. What do you suggest?" Allen replied lightly, he wasn't using full power either. Fighting like this all night posed no strain, and both kept their magic subtle to avoid drawing attention.

"Let's call it quits, and answer one question each, how about that?"

"Fine. On the count of three, we retreat together. Anyone who attacks is a little dog!!!"

"Agreed!"

"One, two, three!"

A spell hit Allen's shield, a large glob of black ink slid down, harmless but disgusting.

At the same time, a huge amount of crow droppings fell onto Professor Xue's shield, enchanted, sticky, and extremely hard to clean. Yes, this was Valor arriving.

"You!"

"You!"

"Mine was the crow's doing, don't blame me!"

"Woof! Woof! Woof!"

Allen could only feel complete, utter surrender in that moment.
