Chapter 47 - Chapter 46: The Tournament of Vajraśila

Morning came cold to Vajraśila.

Thin mountain fog drifted through the academy bridges like wandering spirits, curling around the dark vajra-stone railings before dissolving into the abyss below. The storms of the previous night had passed, but the air still carried the scent of rain and burnt chakra from the examination grounds.

The nobles were awake long before sunrise.

Some had not slept at all.

Lanterns still glowed faintly within several residence towers as heirs of lesser noble houses reviewed combat forms one final time, replaying mistakes from Stage Three over and over in exhausted minds. Others sat silently in meditation chambers, forcing trembling chakra pathways back into stability before the final examination began.

Stage Four.

The Noble Tournament.

Until now, the students had competed against measurements.

Against walls.

Against targets.

Against time.

Today—

they would face each other.

The academy atmosphere had changed completely.

Nervous tension spread through the courtyards like invisible fire. Some students laughed too loudly to hide fear. Others sharpened weapons they would never actually use inside the arena, more ritual than necessity. For many lesser nobles, this was the final chance to prove themselves worthy of entering Vajraśila Academy.

Failure meant returning home in silence.

Success meant becoming an official student of the most feared academy in the eastern kingdoms.

Healers had already arrived before dawn. White-robed medical instructors moved between resting sectors, preparing recovery medicines, chakra stabilizers, and emergency formations for the battles ahead.

The Grand Arena itself had transformed overnight.

Massive layered barriers surrounded the battlefield now, glowing faintly beneath the morning light. Elevated observation platforms floated high above the grounds for instructors and noble representatives. The central arena floor stretched wide like a battlefield prepared for war.

And above it—

a colossal formation screen shimmered beneath the mountain sky.

At the eastern terrace, Aditya leaned lazily against the stone railing while crimson-red flames flickered softly around his fingertips.

"So," he said with a grin, "when I take first place, try not to look too disappointed."

Sasi snorted beside him, royal-blue sparks dancing briefly across his sleeve.

"You?" he replied. "You waste too much chakra showing off."

Aditya placed a hand dramatically against his chest.

"That hurts."

"It should."

"You're just scared because I'll defeat you in the finals."

Sasi smirked faintly.

"If you even reach me."

Nearby, several younger nobles secretly listened while pretending not to.

And somehow—

the pressure lessened slightly.

For the first time since the examinations began, the triplets sounded like normal brothers.

Not monsters.

Not prodigies.

Just family.

A short distance away, Aryan stood beside Auren Vellmare near one of the lower preparation platforms.

Auren looked pale.

Not from exhaustion.

From nerves.

"There are too many monsters here," he admitted quietly while staring toward the arena.

Aryan remained calm.

"You made it this far."

"That doesn't mean I belong here."

Aryan glanced toward him.

"Auren."

The water-affinity noble looked up.

"When this tournament ends," Aryan said quietly, "meet me inside the academy."

Auren frowned slightly.

"As a student."

For a moment, Auren forgot to breathe.

Then a faint smile finally appeared across his face.

Before he could answer—

a powerful voice echoed across the entire arena.

"All candidates report to the central grounds immediately."

The conversations stopped.

At the center platform stood the Head Instructor of Vajraśila Academy.

Instructor Vael Drakhar.

Tall and broad-shouldered, with streaks of silver cutting through his dark hair, the man radiated overwhelming pressure without releasing even a fragment of chakra. A deep scar crossed one side of his jaw, disappearing beneath the collar of his black academy robes.

The arena fell silent instantly.

Vael's sharp eyes swept across the gathered nobles.

"There are two hundred noble applicants present."

His voice carried across the mountains themselves.

"But only one hundred and twenty-eight will enter the official tournament bracket."

A ripple spread through the students.

Some stiffened immediately.

Others clenched their fists.

Vael raised one hand.

"The rankings from the Written Examination and Stages One through Three have already been calculated."

Above the arena—

the colossal formation screen ignited fully.

Names began appearing rapidly.

Written Examination.

Manifestation & Control.

Power Output.

Combat Application.

Scores combined and recalculated instantly beside every student name.

Some nobles stared upward in panic.

Others searched desperately for their rankings.

A few quietly closed their eyes before the results even finalized.

Students who scored highest across the previous stages were automatically promoted into the Top 128.

Others disappeared from the list entirely.

Some lowered their heads silently as their names faded.

Others nearly collapsed in relief when they remained.

Auren searched frantically through the glowing names.

Then—

Auren Vellmare — Rank 71

Included.

His eyes widened slightly.

Aryan simply nodded once beside him.

No praise.

No surprise.

Only certainty.

The formation finalized.

128 students remained.

The real tournament could finally begin.

Massive brackets unfolded across the glowing screen overhead as randomized match pairings appeared.

Murmurs exploded immediately.

"Kael against Darius Velthorn—"

"Myra's fighting Selene Arctis—"

"Nyssa got paired with Corvin Hale—"

The pairings continued rapidly.

Then—

Aditya Vyomtara vs Lynera Vale

A girl with crimson-brown hair froze several rows away.

Lynera Vale.

Fire affinity.

Constellation: Scarlet Lynx.

A powerful noble from a respected western house.

And now—

she had to face Aditya.

The surrounding students immediately began whispering.

"She's finished…"

"That's impossible luck…"

"No… maybe the academy wants to test the triplets early…"

Meanwhile—

Sasi Vyomtara vs Draven Korr

A tall thunder-affinity noble cracked his neck slowly after seeing the matchup. Blue sparks rolled briefly across his knuckles.

"You've got terrible luck," someone muttered beside him.

Draven ignored them.

But his jaw tightened.

Further down—

Aryan Vyomtara vs Edrin Solmere

Nature affinity.

Verdant Crane constellation.

A calm but highly ranked noble.

Even Edrin himself looked unsettled after reading the matchup.

The pairings continued.

Kael Rithvar vs Vaelor Dain.

Nyssa Korrin vs Seraph Vane.

Myra Valencrest vs Elric Thorne.

Caelum Rift vs Theron Vale.

And finally—

Auren Vellmare vs Kaidus Renn

Auren's face immediately tightened.

Kaidus Renn was larger, older-looking, and specialized in metal affinity.

A brutal matchup.

The arena barriers activated fully.

Blue light sealed the battlefield.

Vael Drakhar's voice thundered across the grounds once more.

"From this point onward, hesitation will eliminate you."

The pressure became suffocating.

Some students looked ready to faint.

Others burned with excitement.

The first battle circles ignited across the arena floor.

Chakra began rising everywhere.

Lightning.

Flames.

Wind.

Nature.

Metal.

Water.

The atmosphere itself trembled beneath the collective pressure of one hundred and twenty-eight young nobles preparing to stake their futures upon battle.

Aditya rolled his shoulders once, crimson fire spreading slowly across his arms.

Sasi exhaled calmly as royal-blue lightning flickered behind him.

Aryan quietly watched the arena ahead, green chakra flowing softly around his fingertips like drifting leaves.

Around them, nobles unconsciously stepped aside.

Not ordered to.

Not forced.

Instinctively.

Because by now, everyone in Vajraśila understood the same thing.

The triplets were no longer simply talented heirs of House Vyomtara.

They were becoming the standard by which all other young nobles would be measured.

And somewhere deep beneath the tension—

many of the older noble heirs had begun fearing what would happen when those three fully matured.

The tournament had begun.

And by tomorrow—

some students would become legends within Vajraśila.

While others would return home carrying only silence.
