The Pokémon confronting Rayquaza in the sky was the alien visitor, Deoxys.
As the Lord of the Sky, Rayquaza resides in the ozone layer for one primary reason: to eliminate all threats from outer space.
When Deoxys first smuggled itself onto this planet via a meteorite, it was immediately added to Rayquaza's extermination list.
Originally, Rayquaza thought it had completely wiped out Deoxys during their last encounter, when the meteorite fell.
Unexpectedly, the alien's aura reappeared in the Kanto Region!
Following that aura all the way from Hoenn, Rayquaza had tracked the invader down.
In truth, Rayquaza had already heard Sam's call through their bond.
To the Sky High Pokémon, answering Sam's summons was vastly more important than finishing off a lingering pest like Deoxys.
The three Divine Powers contained within Sam's body were the key to Rayquaza's true strength, and their bond was absolute.
Just as Rayquaza was about to abandon the fight and turn back toward Hoenn to support Sam... the alien seemed to sense the dragon's intentions.
The oval-shaped head of Deoxys suddenly shifted.
Three sharp horns protruded from its body, and the purple crystalline core on its chest shone blindingly bright.
Deoxys shifted into its Attack Forme, completely abandoning all defense for pure offensive power.
Immediately, Deoxys unleashed its exclusive skill: Psycho Boost!
Its tentacles whipped forward, and a massive, deep-purple sphere of highly concentrated psychic energy gathered at its chest before blasting straight toward Rayquaza.
BOOM!!!
Rayquaza, who had lowered its guard to respond to Sam's call, was caught off guard.
The Psycho Boost slammed into the dragon, the sheer kinetic impact forcing Rayquaza to retreat tens of meters through the air.
Given Rayquaza's terrifying vitality, an attack of this level couldn't inflict any real damage.
But it did accomplish one thing:
It completely pissed him off.
"ROOOAAAR!!!!!"
A dragon's roar that shook the heavens and the earth erupted from Rayquaza's jaws.
'This damn cosmic parasite!' Rayquaza raged.
'I was going to spare your miserable life for today, and you dare to provoke me?! Since you are so adamant... I will obliterate you!'
Furious, the Delta (Δ) rune on Rayquaza's forehead shone brilliantly. Dragon-type energy surged through its massive body as it rapidly fired a devastating Dragon Pulse.
Just a fraction of a second before the destructive beam struck, Deoxys's body warped again.
It shifted from its Attack Forme into its bulky Defense Forme.
A thick barrier of purple energy expanded from its body, taking the full brunt of Rayquaza's furious Dragon Pulse.
BOOM!!!
Even in its Defense Forme, Deoxys was violently thrown back, struggling immensely to resist a direct hit from the enraged Lord of the Sky.
Without waiting for Rayquaza to fire another volley, Deoxys shifted forms once more.
Its body became sleek and aerodynamic as it entered its Speed Forme.
Taking advantage of its absolute velocity, it zipped through the clouds, putting a safe distance between itself and the dragon.
Faced with an opponent that could instantly swap between offense, defense, and speed, even a god as strong as Rayquaza couldn't squash it in just a few seconds.
Rayquaza assumed that the punishing Dragon Pulse was enough to teach the alien the vast gap in their power.
But just as the dragon turned to leave again...
Deoxys, still in its Speed Forme, zipped around to Rayquaza's blind spot and hurled a Shadow Ball directly at the back of the dragon's head!
"ROOOAAAR!!!!!"
Rayquaza's temper finally snapped entirely.
It understood one thing with absolute clarity: If it did not completely destroy this opponent right now, the alien would never stop harassing it!
'Nasty monster! DIE!'
The endless turbulence of the stratosphere began to boil. Above Rayquaza, the sky tore open.
Countless massive, burning meteors formed from concentrated draconic energy and began plummeting from the heavens.
Rayquaza unleashed Draco Meteor!
Hoenn Region. Slateport City.
Down on the surface, Sam looked at the glowing Key Stone in his hand with a deep frown.
While he didn't keep Rayquaza in a standard Poké Ball, they had fought together, bled together, and experienced life and death as one.
Sam had long established an inseparable, spiritual bond with the dragon.
'What exactly is it?' Sam wondered, his Divine Sense probing the connection.
'What could possibly be stalling Rayquaza?'
Wallace and the others saw the puzzled, dark expression on Sam's face.
"Professor Sam!" Wallace asked urgently.
"What's the situation?"
Seeing the terrified faces of the Hoenn Elite Four, Sam immediately wiped the doubt from his expression. He knew he had to be their anchor.
"Rayquaza has received my call," Sam said calmly, his voice steady.
"It's just that... it will take a little time for it to arrive."
Sam believed in his partner. As long as Rayquaza solved whatever was hindering it in the upper atmosphere, it would drop down to the battlefield immediately.
Hearing Sam's absolute confidence, everyone breathed a massive sigh of relief.
So what if Groudon and Kyogre were in their Primal Reversion states? Rayquaza was their undisputed master!
The Shiny Mega Rayquaza had a brilliant record of shattering a continent-destroying meteor.
Cleaning up these two noisy little brothers would be a piece of cake for the Sky High Pokémon.
But just as the group relaxed slightly... the war between the two ultra-ancient Pokémon escalated.
Out over the churning ocean, Primal Kyogre leveraged its ability to levitate on the storm winds.
It flew high into the air and executed a brutal, combined maneuver: Body Slam laced with the crushing pressure of Aqua Tail.
With millions of tons of force, Kyogre pounded down hard onto Primal Groudon.
The sheer weight of the impact crushed Groudon, forcing the Continent Pokémon back hundreds of meters.
But Primal Groudon, with its incredibly thick, magma-infused armor, wasn't about to take the hit lying down.
As Kyogre bore down on it, Groudon thrust its massive, razor-sharp claws upward, claws capable of carving out mountain ranges.
SLASH!
The glowing claws raked viciously across Kyogre's swollen, vulnerable underbelly.
The brutal counterattack sent Kyogre shrieking in pain, throwing the Sea God hundreds of meters backward.
BOOM!! BOOM!!
Groudon crashed heavily back into the boiling lava shelf it had created, while Kyogre slammed violently into the depths of the ocean.
The dual impacts stirred up a catastrophic tsunami of both seawater and molten rock.
A massive wave of splashing, superheated magma shot forward, directly smashing through Slateport City's remaining seawall defenses.
In an instant, countless coastal houses were swallowed by the liquid fire.
A second later, a towering wave of seawater crashed down upon the city, extinguishing the magma!
But the rapid cooling forced the magma to solidify into jagged, immovable boulders of obsidian, pushing the newly formed stone deep into the city center like a bulldozer and causing even more skyscrapers to collapse.
At this rate, it wouldn't take long.
Slateport City would be completely erased from the map long before the two Gods ever decided a winner!
