I woke up with a jolt. I changed into a ninja outfit and went downstairs. I saw mom and my other family members inside the mansion they looked white as a sheet. I inquired, "What brings you here?" Mom looked pleased, "Thank goodness. You have been unconscious for three days. The rift opened and it is pandemonium outside. You said it was a safe place for us. So we came here to be safe." I looked around, "What nonsense are you speaking mother. I was asleep for a few minutes. I was not out cold for days." My mom's new husband explained, "After you were told of someone's ridiculous plan you came out and yelled at everyone. Then you agreed to stay here in this mansion while everyone used whatever technique they could think of to fight the monsters. Everyone agreed. They tried everything. The church was leveled since it couldn't do anything. The people have been begging Tiberius to wake you up. He is usually the sweetest person you will ever meet. These past three days he has been heartless, calculating and merciless." I walked out to the iron cauldron on the porch and picked up a few handfuls before walking towards the gate to see the townsfolk outside. Their number had dwindled slightly. They looked pleased to see me. They promised to stop interfering. They wanted to go back to the way things were.
Tiberius stopped me and asked the million dollar question. Will they accept their mundane life and let me fulfill mine. They had to sign an agreement with their blood to never replace me or get in my way. He changed into Dracula and Zilmera transformed into Medusa. Everyone gasped collectively. As the gates opened everyone tried to get in. The groundskeeper and everyone else indoors calmly refused to let anyone in. We stepped out and met our first monster. The bottom half was centipede while the top half was a humanoid with four arms. He had a flat face with slanted slits for eyes. Two holes that allowed air flow. There was a jagged tear just below which could be called a mouth. It opened to let out a hiss. I noticed that it had no teeth but I had a feeling this one had other advantages. I was bored and annoyed to see what it can do. I used the stringless bow and fired several shots. People cheered and Tiberius ordered everyone to go home. After it burned to ashes screaming we went to the park to find the rest. The mortuary had protections but everywhere else was open territory. At the entrance were six balls of flames. They took a human-like appearance and asked me to pay the toll or burn. I used the black stone on my charm bracelet to suck them into the void. Tiberius laughed as I focused my gift to sense traces of Aura.
I stepped back as I gave Tiberius a saber. He fought his opponent a dark centaur wielding a sword. I went forward with Medusa. She turned everything she could to stone. The ones she couldn't fight were the ones I used the bow on. As we approached the small pond I saw a woman who was covered in scales but she was skin and bones. She smiled at me and I noticed a few of her teeth were missing. She extended her hand. Medusa mentioned a few of her fingers had been chopped off. I asked Medusa if she was a resident or a prisoner. She said that she was a resident but she has been harmed so I took the gourd looking water bottle and made her drink from it. Her fingers regrew but she still looked malnourished. She thanked me as she gave me the gourd. She directed me towards the thicket of Yew trees. She whispered about a being that drains the life out of people without biting them. Medusa is safe but I won't be. We kept walking till I felt the life drain from me. I took a pallet from my robe and threw it down hard. The smoke managed to distract it enough to save my life. I took a handful of the black glitter and blew it all over. I felt a sharp snap and I turned around to see a bald white man dressed in a suit with a permanent grin carved in his face. He shook violently before he accepted his fate and blew up. He wasn't the only one. Medusa laughed menacingly as they died.
She gave me a pat on the back and escorted me to the next problem. People made of corals with preying mantis hands charged at us and I was about to use my weapon when Medusa stopped me. She introduced me as the new guardian and they slowed to a halt. I saw a man in a black coat with spiky silver hair with a sword for hands lunge forward. I pulled out an ornate obsidian cylinder like it was a pistol. I pressed the button on top and it shot out fifty foot flames and he was ashes before he hit the ground. We kept walking till we met a few witches dancing around a bonfire. One of them saw me and screamed. One of them was bald and had a large beaky nose. She wore a shredded dress that wasn't washed since the salem witch trials. She threw fireballs so others could escape. I waved my hand and Medusa screamed. Which was a big mistake. Medusa's snake-like hair started to wriggle. Her eyes glowed white and I saw all of them turned to stone. The ones with the mantis hands jeered before they smashed them to smithereens. Then Tiberius came and sensed everywhere. Harkness came to tell us that we have killed everyone we were supposed to. So now we must go and clean the town.
The next stop was the cemetery. Harkness introduced me to the residents. Everyone who was not from the rift slipped into their respective crypts. I saw a mausoleum which was glitching. I walked in and found a white haired woman with three arms wearing a priestess outfit with a headdress made from raven feathers. She saw me and hissed before she turned into a dog and ran away. The next one was by a cracked tombstone. It read Riordan 1826. The ghostly figure looked human but his face was clawed. He snarled before Mrs. Erebus came with a metal staff with several rings on the side with a crescent moon on top. The ghost was sucked in screaming. Atticus sniffed the air before pointing me towards the edge of the forest. He cautioned me about the anomaly there and felt uninvited. We carefully glided over to see Bubbly Belle's mom was standing over a pentagram. In the center was a human heart. She had slit her wrist and blood was slowly dripping out. She kept calling out for her daughter to come out. Tiberius and Obadiah dragged her away from the center. I kicked dirt to erase the pentagram. As I erased it I saw the rift close. Medusa pulled out a kunai knife and slit her throat. I saw a few tentacles reach out to grab the escapees. They came screaming their displeasure.
I walked to the town square and used the war trumpet. The ones that didn't go back to the rift came. Mrs. Erebus used a spell to trap them in the square. Mr. Crane came behead a few. Medusa turned some into stone. Harkness used the black glitter to burn anyone who came close. Tiberius used his sword and impaled a few. I used the bow to kill the rest. Once they were dead I double checked and waved my hand. Harkness ordered Atticus and Obadiah to destroy the remains. The locals were ordered to go home. I asked my family not to mention what they had seen in my house. They promised to do so. As they walked the locals stared with contempt. They were outside dropping dead like flies while my family was safe. They can see the macabre behind the gates but it wasn't killing them. Tiberius walked away without a word. The sheriff invited him for dinner which he politely refused. He made it clear to everyone, "Earn our trust." A Raven tried to get in but something blocked it. I sat on my shoulder. I plucked it out and Tiberius threw it away. We managed to get in and close the gates. The bird came as fast as possible but it hit the barrier with a clang. I walked back to the porch. I picked up a small ladle of water to rub over my face, hands and shoes. Everyone grinned as I went in. The candles on either side ignited and moved lazily. The corridor had shadows that seemed too pleased to see us. The fireplace was glowing with peacock blue flames. I sat down to eat beef tartare, toasted bread and a bitter chocolate drink. I complimented the cook with a nod. She bowed politely before she disappeared. Tiberius stared at me with amusement as I invited him to play a game of chess.
