Chapter 524 - Chapter 524: Fairy Heart

Chapter 524: Fairy Heart

Noah nodded. He had obviously noticed the hidden entrance.

If Makarov hadn't explicitly warned him off earlier, he definitely would have sneaked back down to investigate it himself. But now, with official permission, he could walk right through the front door.

Noah raised his right hand. The two men and the spectral First Master vanished from the soundproofed room.

When they reappeared, they were deep underground, standing in front of a perfectly ordinary, completely blank stone wall within the guild's expanded subterranean foundation.

Noah extended two fingers, drawing a glowing sigil in the air. A massive, golden Fairy Tail crest materialized on the blank stone. The crest flared brightly for a second before dissolving, revealing a large opening and a spiraling staircase leading even deeper underground.

Noah hadn't just bypassed the heavy external containment wards he had installed; he had flawlessly dismantled the ancient, incredibly complex cloaking spell that had hidden the entrance for decades.

"I knew it. I knew you had already figured out exactly where the entrance was," Makarov chuckled, shaking his head.

"I couldn't help it," Noah shrugged with a grin. "To a normal mage, that wall looks completely blank. But to me, the ambient magical distortion around the cloaking spell was so blindingly obvious I'd have to be blind not to see it."

"Let's head down. The guild's ultimate secret lies at the bottom," Makarov said.

Noah nodded. Makarov took the lead, stepping onto the spiraling stairs. Mavis floated behind him, and Noah brought up the rear.

As they descended, magical lamps set into the stone walls flickered to life to illuminate their path, automatically extinguishing once they passed.

"This is an incredibly long staircase. We're going extremely deep," Noah remarked after several minutes of continuous descent.

"Naturally. A tremendous amount of effort was expended to ensure this secret remained hidden from the world. It was never spoken of; knowledge of its existence is passed down strictly from Guild Master to Guild Master," Makarov replied over his shoulder.

"Makes sense. Absolute compartmentalization is the best security," Noah nodded.

After descending for a while longer, the spiraling staircase ended at a heavy, ornate stone door.

Makarov pushed it open.

They stepped into a massive, cavernous chamber. A gigantic Fairy Tail crest was carved into the stone floor, and smaller crests adorned the surrounding walls. Directly across the chamber stood another massive set of double doors, firmly shut.

"The ultimate secret is behind those doors, I presume," Noah noted. Even from across the room, he could clearly see the incredibly complex, multi-layered sealing arrays etched into the stone doors. The runic style was identical to the standard Fairy Tail security wards, just exponentially more intricate.

"Correct," Makarov nodded. He walked up to the heavy double doors and rapidly drew a specific sequence of sigils in the air.

A massive, glowing runic matrix materialized over the doors, the Fairy Tail crest blazing at its center. The matrix flashed and dissolved, the heavy magical locks disengaging with a deep clunk.

The massive stone doors slowly creaked inward.

"This is the ultimate secret of our guild. Lumen Histoire," Makarov declared, his voice heavy with solemnity as he stepped aside to let Noah look inside.

Noah peered past the doors. The space beyond wasn't a room; it was a vast, bottomless chasm that had been hollowed out deep beneath Magnolia. Floating stone pathways led toward the center, illuminated by massive, glowing purple crystals drifting in the empty air.

At the very end of the pathway stood a colossal, crystalline lacrima resting on a stone pedestal.

Suspended perfectly still within the massive crystal was the nude body of a young girl. She looked exactly like Mavis.

Thankfully, the girl's incredibly long, flowing blonde hair strategically covered her privacy. If it hadn't, Noah would have immediately conjured a blanket to wrap around the crystal. Discussing a girl's nude body while her ghost was floating right next to him was a level of awkwardness he absolutely refused to deal with.

Precht had likely arranged her hair that way when he sealed her. After all, staring at the naked body of the First Master while conducting decades of research would have been incredibly uncomfortable.

"That's the First Master's physical body, isn't it? Just as I hypothesized," Noah stated calmly.

Golden analytical arrays instantly materialized in front of his eyes as he began running preliminary scans from a distance.

"You're not surprised?" Makarov turned to look at him, genuinely taken aback. "When Precht first showed this to me, I was so shocked I couldn't speak."

"Not really. When I first ran a comprehensive diagnostic scan on the First Master to treat her spectral instability, I noticed an anomaly," Noah explained, keeping his eyes on the crystal.

"There was a constant, incredibly faint trickle of foreign magic continuously sustaining her spectral form. The magic was anchoring her soul. Since a soul and a physical body are intrinsically linked, the most logical conclusion was that her physical body still existed somewhere, acting as a magical tether."

"I see. I suppose deciding to tell you early was the correct choice," Makarov let out a heavy breath.

He and Mavis had debated this heavily. Noah's deductive reasoning was terrifyingly sharp. If they had kept the secret hidden, Noah would have eventually pieced it together on his own through his research on the Devil's Heart. It was infinitely safer to simply show him the truth and establish clear boundaries before he accidentally triggered something catastrophic.

Furthermore, the recent string of apocalyptic crises had deeply shaken Makarov.

Grimoire Heart, Zeref, and Acnologia. Fairy Tail had barely survived by the skin of their teeth. And while Grimoire Heart had been crushed, the latter two threats were still active, and they were exponentially more terrifying.

Zeref had casually strolled onto their sacred ground. Acnologia had nearly wiped them off the face of the earth. These encounters had placed an unimaginably heavy psychological burden on Makarov.

He knew that Zeref and Acnologia were inevitable, existential enemies of the guild. To survive, Fairy Tail needed to grow exponentially stronger.

And that was why Makarov had turned to the guild's ultimate secret.

After discussing it with Mavis, they had agreed to reveal Lumen Histoire to Noah for three primary reasons.

First, Makarov had already definitively chosen Noah as his successor. In terms of power, intellect, leadership, and absolute devotion to the guild, Noah was the perfect candidate for the Fourth Master. Even if Noah stubbornly refused to officially take the title for a few more years, Makarov viewed him as the de facto leader anyway, making the disclosure acceptable.

Second, Noah's magical intellect was completely unprecedented. He had reverse-engineered and improved countless lost magics. If anyone alive could safely analyze Lumen Histoire and harness a fraction of its infinite power to strengthen the guild without triggering a catastrophe, it was Noah.

Third, Noah already possessed Precht's research archives and the Devil's Heart. He was already studying the underlying mechanics of the secret. However, Precht's research was heavily tainted by dark magic.

While Makarov trusted Noah's moral compass implicitly, the temptation of infinite magic had corrupted brilliant men before. Makarov wanted to bring Noah into the fold so he could actively supervise the boy's research, ensuring Noah didn't accidentally stray down the same dark path Precht had taken.

"The crystalline lacrima is incredibly effective at sealing her magical signature. I can't sense a trace of it from outside the room," Noah observed, stepping onto the floating pathway and walking closer.

"However, because her spectral form is physically present in the room, the proximity is strengthening the connection between her body and soul. The magical tether is significantly more pronounced right now."

Noah stopped a few feet from the massive crystal. He raised both hands, summoning several digital Archive screens in the air to record his telemetry data.

Since Makarov and Mavis had explicitly brought him here to see it, he assumed he had permission to run non-invasive scans. Naturally, he wasn't going to hold back.

"Be incredibly careful, Noah. Do not attempt to physically interact with the magic sealed within that crystal. If you accidentally trigger a reaction and lose control, the consequences will be apocalyptic," Makarov warned sternly, seeing Noah's eyes tracking the invisible currents of magic.

"I understand. I will maintain absolute caution," Noah nodded seriously.

He knew perfectly well what this object was capable of. It was an anomaly that defied the fundamental laws of conservation of energy. Approaching it with anything less than absolute, paranoid caution would be suicidal idiocy.

"So, Grandpa, what exactly is the story here?" Noah asked, pausing his scans to look back at Makarov. "I know this is the First Master's physical body, but what exactly is 'Lumen Histoire'?"

"Lumen Histoire... its true name is Fairy Heart. And the story of its creation is mine to tell," Mavis spoke up, her voice incredibly soft.

"First Master..." Makarov looked at her with deep sadness.

"It's alright, Makarov. I should be the one to tell him. It is also an opportunity for me to finally apologize to you," Mavis said, floating over to Makarov and bowing her head deeply.

Makarov fell silent, knowing she carried an immense burden of guilt.

"Fairy Heart has been guarded as the guild's absolute highest secret because its existence is something that must never be revealed to the world. But it is also a secret because it contains my greatest sin," Mavis said, looking mournfully at her own suspended body.

Noah remained silent, his fingers resting lightly on his digital keyboards, waiting for her to continue.

"It is the story of a cursed boy and a cursed girl, both desperately searching for the One Magic," Mavis began, her voice echoing softly in the cavernous chamber.

Noah's eyes narrowed slightly. He knew exactly what story she was about to tell, but hearing it directly from the source was invaluable historical context.

"It happened over a hundred years ago, shortly before Fairy Tail was founded," Mavis recalled, her eyes glazed with memory. "In the forests west of Magnolia, I had a chance encounter with Zeref.

"He was suffering terribly, tormented by the Curse of Ankhseram—the Contradictory Curse that involuntarily snuffed out all life around him. Yet, despite his dark reputation, I found myself deeply drawn to him.

"At the time, Magnolia was suffering under the tyrannical rule of the dark guild, Blue Skull. To liberate the town, my three companions and I begged Zeref to teach us magic.

"During the final battle to free the town, I used an incomplete, highly dangerous Black Magic spell to secure our victory. The price I paid for casting that spell... was that my physical body permanently stopped growing. I was frozen in time as a young girl.

"But back then, I didn't care. The town was free. In April of X686, my companions and I founded Fairy Tail.

"During that era, the political tensions between the various feudal lords regarding trade rights were incredibly volatile. That same year, the Second Trade War erupted. Mages and guilds were heavily drafted as mercenaries to fight for the lords, and Fairy Tail was no exception.

"Ultimately, we won that war."

"It was during that war that the First Master earned the title of the 'Fairy Tactician'," Makarov interjected, his voice laced with profound respect. "Under her absolute command, our forces secured a flawless victory against overwhelmingly superior enemy numbers."

"I've read the historical accounts regarding the 'Fairy Tactician.' Her strategic brilliance in that war is legendary. Pulling off a flawless victory against those odds is incredibly impressive," Noah nodded in genuine admiration.

While Noah could theoretically simulate massive, battlefield-scale tactical scenarios using his Archive magic to process the variables, doing it entirely in one's head required an unfathomable intellect. Gathering troop movements, terrain data, supply lines, and enemy psychology, and calculating the perfect counter-strategy in real-time was mentally exhausting.

Honestly, if Noah were put in command of an army, he wouldn't bother with complex tactics. He would just fly to the front lines and vaporize the enemy vanguard with a single, massive magical bombardment.

"Please, stop interrupting me. Let me finish the story," Mavis blushed furiously, waving her hands in embarrassment at the sudden praise.

"Of course, First Master. Please continue. We're listening," Noah smiled, gesturing for her to go on. Makarov also nodded respectfully.
