The second pair of wings growing from Ophelia's back tore through her own robe, revealing skin that now shone like liquid metal not yet cooled. Her height doubled within seconds, crashing into the ceiling until the stones above cracked and rained down like white dust, some chunks the size of a fist striking the floor around us with a sound like snapping bone.

The sound coming from her mouth was no longer one note but dozens, as if every rune-bound townsperson on the floor had lent their own vocal cords to the same chorus.
