Rowan sighed, his expression turning bitter as he began to speak. "I guess you deserve to know after all," he muttered, staring up at the gloomy sky.
"It's nothing that dramatic… at least not in the way you're imagining. Asher is the pronounced heir to our clan, meaning he calls all the shots for the younger generation. Everyone is expected to follow him."
He clicked his tongue. "The only reason Vanya and I are exceptions is because the clan head is our father. So we have a little influence and don't have to obey Asher blindly. But even then… even I don't fully know why he hates me so much. It might be because Vanya and I refused to yield to his authority, or—"
He paused, biting his lower lip with a twisted expression.
Kelly raised an eyebrow, silently pressing him to continue.
Rowan let out a long, exhausted breath. "The most likely reason is… he never really saw Vanya as his sister. Remember what I told you before. About how Vanya is adopted?"
