Lucian sat alone in his chamber long after everyone had left, the door shut behind him and the silence settling in a way that felt too deliberate to be comforting.
The room looked normal again at first glance, perfectly arranged, untouched, like nothing had ever been disturbed. But that was the lie. His gaze drifted back to the desk without meaning to, locking briefly on the drawer that had already been pushed back into place. It was neat. Too neat.
That was what bothered him. Someone had been inside. Someone had known exactly where to look. And worse, they had done it without leaving anything behind that could be used to track them.
