"I-If you just kill them then it would make you stoop to their level and you would just be another murderer…" Gwen said weakly, trying to explain the importance of restraint to her childhood friend and to make him understand the great responsibility that comes with having great power.
"Then I'll just keep on killing them until I'm the only murderer left…" Adrian scoffed at Gwen's words, making her scowl.
"What if everyone in the world wants to harm me! Huh! What are you going to do? Kill them all! Commit a mass genocide? " Gwen caught Adrian by the collar as she growled at him in genuine anger but his next words made her pause as she was left speechless.
"Yeah… I'll kill them all… I'll eradicate anything and everything that would even think of harming you…" Adrian said softly as he removed Gwen's hands from his collar and held it in his hands as he gazed at her making her lips tremble as she didn't know what else to say.
" *Hic!* W-Why are you like this!?" Gwen buried her head in his shoulder as she sobbed, confused about what to do.
What should she choose ? Her principles or her love ?
If it was anyone else in her life from her friends to even some of her relatives it would have been easy but why did it have to be him ? Why did it have to be Adrian?
" M-Murder is wrong , you can't just go around killing people , laws exist for a reason…" Gwen talked while sobbing as Adrian had his arms around her.
He didn't want to make her cry or suffer but he also didn't want to lie to her , maybe this lie could have protected her and what she didn't know wouldn't have hurt her but it felt wrong to him to hide something like this from someone like Gwen who was so important to him.
Everyone has their own secrets but he didn't want to build a relationship based on lies.
He loved Gwen , he truly did that was exactly the reason why he would rather hurt her than lose her.
"I never said it was right…" Adrian sighed as he stroked Gwen's head.
" *Hic!* T-Then why do you do it , if you know it's wrong…." Gwen sniffled as she gazed up at him with upturned eyes as her face was messed up by all the tears.
" Because it's the foolproof way to protect the people I cherish , I don't want to send Green Goblin to prison and let him escape by using his connections… you should have seen his face , he was Norman Osborn and with his connections he wouldn't stay too long in prison, fuck that! I think he won't even get convicted…. So do you want me to bet your safety on that ? " Adrian wiped Gwen's tears as he cradled her face.
"I-I don't need your protection! I'm not some princess who needs a hero to save her! " Gwen pouted as she whined like a small child making Adrian pick her up and place her on his lap sideways as she snuggled against him after putting up a symbolic struggle, her eyes narrowed in comfort at his warmth.
After a month of not seeing Adrian, Gwen understood how much she loved him and missed him, and feeling his warmth again made her feel utter bliss.
"You are not , but that wouldn't stop me from trying to protect you because I love you Gwendolyn … you know that don't you?…" Adrian said softly as he placed a soft kiss on Gwen's earlobes making her bury her face in his chest tighter feeling a variety of emotions from happiness to embarrassment as she punched him on the chest lightly.
"U-Unfair…" Gwen whispered while pouting since with him being like this she couldn't say anything else.
He killed Rhino for her and that realization made her feel guilty but a small part of her felt a bit happy at knowing how much he valued her even if it was wrong.
Was it worth it to cut Adrian off from her life just because of a few criminals? It's not like she cared whether they lived or died , what bothered her was Adrian resorting to murder ….. but was it really that bad ?
Gwen remembered back to the time she felt the urge to kill Abomination when she saw the way he tortured Adrian. At that time she cursed herself for not being in New York, and she didn't care if the brute was stronger than her.
All she wanted was to pummel his grotesque form until nobody could recognise him …. And thinking from Adrian's viewpoint he would also wish to do the same if somebody hurt her wouldn't he?
Gwen felt bitter sweet and she took a deep breath as her blue eyes hardened with resolve...
