Aurelia froze.
The question lingered in the air like a blade suspended between them. For a moment, she did not breathe. Trying to make sense of the question he asked her.
"Who touched you… before I did?"
Her breath caught, her fingers tightening instinctively around the sheets clutched to her chest. For a moment, she simply stared at him—unable to fully comprehend what he had just asked. Her thoughts scrambling, her heart beginning to pound in confusion rather than fear.
"My lord…" she said slowly, her voice uncertain, "I… I do not understand what you mean."
Valerian did not look away. His gaze remained fixed on her, sharp, searching, unwavering.
"Do not pretend confusion with me, Aurelia," he said quietly. "I asked a simple question. I expect a simple answer."
"But my lord…" she said slowly, her brows drawing together, "why would you ask me such a question?"
Valerian did not look away, breathing heavily.
