MHGA Chapter 277: The Death That Surpasses Fate

Caesar turned around in disbelief—

Only to see his dearest friend… Joseph, standing there fully intact behind him, with the Guildmaster beside him.

The scene where the two had just slammed Kars into the magma now felt like nothing more than an illusion.

"You two… I… you…" Caesar stammered.

But Joseph didn't hesitate.

He simply patted Caesar on the shoulder—

Then jumped out again, adjusting his posture mid-air with the Insect Glaive, diving straight toward Kars.

"What the hell is going on?!" Caesar shouted.

Kairo Retsu, smiling, turned to Caesar just before leaping after Joseph:

"This is fate… or maybe it's the fastest way we could come up with to change it in such a short time."

"Caesar… in your original fate, you were supposed to die at Wamuu's hands."

Kairo continued, "But you survived—because Joseph changed your fate.

And for that, Joseph now faces fate's backlash…

That could mean greater sorrow for him, including your death."

"Maybe you'll still die.

Maybe even more people will die—like Speedwagon, Lisa Lisa… or Stroheim."

Kairo's tone was grave:

"So to change fate…

We can only let the ones most willing to die be the ones to face fate's death!!!"

"What do you mean?! Who's going to die… don't tell me…"

Caesar thought of Joseph, who had just mysteriously reappeared on the plane.

He realized what had happened before probably wasn't a hallucination.

"That's right.

It hurts to say it, but…

We really can pay the price of death demanded by fate's backlash," Kairo smiled.

"With our own lives…"

"Then witness it, Caesar."

Kairo waved one last time and jumped out of the plane without hesitation, diving once again toward Kars.

Caesar… still didn't even know this man's name.

He had no idea why a total stranger—whom he'd never met before—would so willingly sacrifice his life for others.

Was this Kairo… truly a great man?

Caesar was lost in thought, watching Joseph and Kairo plunge toward the magma once again.

In the unbearable torment of molten rock, they tackled Kars just as he was about to escape, entangling him with their lives.

Joseph soon climbed back onto the plane—

Only to jump again immediately.

Then Kairo.

Then Joseph again.

Then Kairo again…

The two of them took turns hurling their lives into that bottomless magma—

Using the pure force of nature to gradually wear down Kars' strength…

And the fate embedded in his very being.

For reasons he couldn't explain, Caesar began to feel a heavy pressure being lifted from his shoulders.

It was as if someone else had borne the burden in his place—

And he knew that someone was Joseph.

That it was Joseph's relentless sacrifice that had bought him the chance to defy fate.

Meanwhile, Kars screamed in rage and despair beneath the lava.

"Impossible! Impossible!!"

"I'm the Ultimate Life Form…

How could I possibly die at the hands of you lowly creatures?! I refuse to accept this!!"

"Joseph! Jo-sephhhhh! JOSEPH!!!!!!!!!"

Kars' screams echoed in the magma.

But his despair earned him no mercy from fate.

In fact, it was as if fate itself had finally begun to waver under Joseph's unwavering resolve to die again and again.

"Kars!!!!! Let's end this destiny between us once and for all!!!

You will die here today—absolutely!!!!!!!"

The flame in Joseph's heart now burned hotter than the magma itself.

The lava only scorched Kars' body—

But the fire in Joseph's soul torched Kars' spirit—

And that shapeless thing called fate.

Bit by bit, Kars' body was consumed—

And at last, his life force waned.

He could no longer even summon the strength to form heat-insulating armor.

"Joseph!!!!!!!!!!! Why?!"

Kars roared, as if demanding an answer from Joseph.

But Joseph's response—

Was a Ripple wave more intense than magma itself, born from his indomitable will.

He drove that Ripple into Kars' chest, gripping him tightly and dragging him down to the deepest depths of the magma.

Kars… gradually fell silent.

And yet Joseph remained unconvinced.

Even after the surface of the lava showed no signs of movement—

He still jumped back in, braving the agony to confirm Kars' death with his own eyes.

Kairo went with him.

The two of them searched the lava for nearly fifteen minutes before finally finishing the job.

Joseph—ashen-faced—collapsed into the cockpit.

He sat slumped in the cockpit, looking up at Caesar at the controls.

Suddenly, he covered his face.

"Hm?"

Kairo, pale himself, forced out a smile.

"What's wrong? Crying from the emotion?"

"No! I—Joseph—would never cry over something so trivial."

Joseph replied stubbornly.

"I'm just… a little happy, that we finally succeeded."

"Hah! You should be happy!"

Kairo laughed heartily.

"You tell me—where else are you gonna find a brother like Caesar who's willing to fight to the death with you…

Or a brother like me, willing to dive into lava for you without hesitation!"

"You've got Caesar and me—two brothers like us?!

You should be counting your blessings!!!!!!"

Kairo burst out laughing.

"So, how's it feel now?! Pretty great, right?! Real satisfying, huh?!"

"…Yeah."

Joseph wiped the corners of his eyes.

"I finally saw hope that everything can be changed."

"Joseph…

Once we're back, you'd better explain everything to us!"

Caesar said, a hint of frustration in his voice.

"Otherwise, Lisa Lisa's definitely gonna get mad!"

"Oh… right, Lisa Lisa!"

Joseph smiled.

"I still need to take Stroheim to meet Lisa Lisa officially…

Now that it's all over… it's time to let time flow again."

"…?"

Caesar blinked, confused.

"Why would you take Stroheim to meet Lisa Lisa?

Shouldn't you be introducing Stroheim to your grandmother instead?"

Kairo burst out laughing:

"Ha! That's what you don't know! Lisa Lisa is Joseph's mom!"

Caesar's shocked voice echoed across the sky:

"HAAAH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"
