Chapter 195 - Confidence

With the fake philosophers stone in hand I was only a single step away from finishing my Fayth project. It was gratifying to be honest as once I had the realm up and running I gained an extra level of untouchability. With that transaction done I didn't rush them out of my suitcase because maybe there were other deals to be made. I wouldn't be much of a merchant if I just ignored that possibility and so I let them carefully look over everything.-

"This list here. Is this real?" Flammel asked pointing at the list of Ark creatures I had resting on a podium.

"It is. Ark came from the same place as those will come from should I order any." I said calmly.

"And that includes these wyverns?" he asked pointing at the entries for that species.

"Those would cost extra due to the danger in procuring them but yes those are also on the list for now." I said with a chuckle.

"I must say I am rather curious where these thing come from. Many of these descriptions are unusual and the fact there are even what appear to be an entirely new species of dragon is incredible." he said seriously.

"I won't be explaining my source." I said firmly.

"I know. Albus has made it quite clear that the source of your unusual merchandise is a secret you zealously guard. I do believe I'd be rather interested in one of these wyverns still. The poison variety specifically." he said seriously.

"Dragon trading is highly illegal you know." Madam Maxime pointed out sternly.

"It's fine. So long as I don't get caught with an egg or dragon it's merely hear say. Besides it's not like there is any prison that could actually hold me." I said dismissively.

"What do you mean by that?" she asked a little alarmed.

"I mean exactly what I said. Azkaban merely takes the wand from it's prisoner but doesn't stop magic casting inside it. I could simply just turn into lightning and leave if I was ever somehow captured to begin with. The other magical prisons in the world are barely any better so leaving them was no different. Unless I am flat out executed immediately there isn't a single prison on the planet that could hold me for any real length of time." I explained with a shrug.

"That's..... concerning. Are our prisons so flawed?" she said with a deep thoughtful frown.

"Technically no. The ability to escape those prisons can in truth only be fulfilled by a very few specific scenarios. Those scenarios are different for each of them as well. Azkaban for example it's being able to get past the Dementors, crossing the sea and escaping the cell itself. Any of those being missing and escape becomes nearly impossible for the average wizard. Of course for truly powerful and skilled wizards the rules change greatly as someone like Dumbledore could just use overwhelming force to blast his way out and then leave." I said frankly.

"That's reassuring. You are unusually forthcoming about this." she pointed out and Flammel chuckled.

"He's confident that even knowing this won't help." he said and I nodded.

"Correct. As much as the ministries try to hide it power is the ultimate decider. Not law. To the truly powerful laws are more suggestion than anything else. Take Voldemort or Grindelwald for example. It wasn't law that stopped them but power and circumstance respectfully. This cold reality has always been the way of the wizarding world. You could ask him if you think I'm wrong." I said gesturing at Flammel.

"It's true. Law only applies to those too weak to ignore it, the rest follow only the rules they set." Flammel said casually.

Not that this was surprising really as the man was over six hundred years old. This wasn't news to him, merely something he had long since known and accepted. The books supported my words as well as when Voldemort and Dumbledore moved outside the law neither were actually stopped by it unless they chose to be. Grindelwald was far worse as he plunged most of the world into war and only Dumbledore stopping him worked.-

I myself was close to that exact same level of power. In pure magical skill I was a step or two below the Mcgonagall or Snape but with my haki, devil fruit and one piece physique all stacked on top I was probably a level higher than them overall power wise. Now that I also had the magics of Auron's world at my disposal my upper ceiling of power had risen even more. Especially summoning. That magic system alone allowed the creation of monsters like Sin so if I just went that route I could literally rearrange the globe.-

It was thanks to understanding this that I was all but dropping any pretense of weakness or humility. I no longer needed to hide or concern myself with most laws of this world. Sure I'd still mostly follow them but that was more because breaking them was rather pointless if they didn't stop me to begin with.
