A cool afternoon breeze swept away the lingering heat, leaving the air around Takengon Pier pleasantly refreshing. Between 2079 and 2080, the pier had earned its reputation as one of Indonesia's most popular tourist destinations.
The waterfront featured a lively food court overlooking the crystal-blue lake. A windmill-inspired boardwalk stretched across the water, with a circular fish pond at its center where visitors could admire colorful ornamental fish. Modern smart victorian street lamps stood at every corner of the pier, their warm glow transforming the entire waterfront into a cozy, inviting scene after sunset.
At one of the medium-sized round wooden tables along the boardwalk—on the lower-right side of one of the windmill blades—sat five women enjoying the peaceful afternoon together.
