He did want to pay attention to it, but had bigger problems at hand, really.
"Stay back!"
He raised his arm, the gun trembling just slightly as he aimed it at the guard.
Slowly, he pushed himself up from the ground, boots scraping faintly against the floor as his balance struggled to catch up with everything that had just happened.
For a fraction of a second, it almost felt like it could work.
Like the guard might hesitate.
But this wasn't a movie, or like anything he had imagined.
The guard didn't freeze or raise his hands.
In fact, he didn't even think twice.
Bang!
The sound was deafening in the enclosed space, the muzzle flash tearing through. Blake barely had time to flinch before the first bullet hit him.
And then the second.
And the third.
His mind reacted before his body could, his defense buff snapping into place like an invisible shield wrapping around him.
