The entire camp was in a state of upheaval, and everyone was looking around in panic.
"Damn it! He was supposed to be on watch! Where did he go?"
"Did anyone hear him say anything!?"
"He didn't make a damn noise! That bastard left us unguarded as soon as his shift rolled around!"
The curses continued as the group became aware of the situation
Icarus heard shouts coming from the far right of the camp; he looked over to see Jean and Alice running. He heard a faint scraping sound as well as a strange shadow that seemed to be following them; he muttered an incantation instinctively, and a ball of golden light formed in his hand.
The only light elemental magic he knew, although useless on most occasions, this one was unique.
He hurled the ball of light; it arced towards the pair and behind them before popping. It acted like a flashbang and temporarily ripped apart the shadows of the area.
In doing so, it also obliterated the shadow wraith which had been following Jean and Alice.
The previously invisible wraith was evaporated by the light seconds before it would have attacked, but the disappearance of the shadow revealed what had been hiding within.
A badly rotten corpse, practically a skeleton wearing a greathelm and rotten fur armor, raised a claymore to the sky, or well, the bioluminescent rocks overhead.
Bjorn was already where he needed to be, however, and raised his sword to deflect the attack.
The strike fell upon his blade with a deafening sound, which echoed throughout the cavern. Bjorn grunted with effort before heaving the heavy blade to the side and slashing into the corpse.
It had no effect, but the old man shouted something, and a rune on his sword burst into flames, allowing him to cut cleanly through the skeleton.
He turned to the group, "MOVE!"
It was clear his intention was for them to rush to the exit of the floor as quickly as possible.
Icarus wasn't sure this was the best plan, with how huge floor one had been; what was to say this one would not be equally as vast?
However, he trusted Bjorn's experience and followed after his companions.
Lei chanted and threw a golden mist into the air; it surrounded them, and the shadows which had been growing closer backed off a little bit.
However, the undead did not.
Bursting from the shadows came dozens of varying-sized undead.
Bjorn hacked through them with his blazing swords, and Icarus blasted any who came from the sides, but there was no end, and Bjorn was slowly picking up small amounts of damage.
And they went on like this for ages. Bjorn's face was now a bloody mess; the others were exhausted and losing hope quickly, and it was at this moment that a voice reached out to them.
From somewhere within the massive graveyard, Hugo shouted.
"This way! The door is this way!"
Bjorn's blood-covered eyes shot wide open.
"HUGO! YOU'RE ALIVE!?"
"Come here! Over here!"
Icarus felt a shiver roll down his spine as the group changed directions toward the voice.
Something had been... wrong. With Hugo before this, but this was different.
The voice lacked emotion entirely, as if it didn't even know the meaning of the words it was saying.
But he was the only one in the group who was able to take note of this, and they soon arrived at the location of the voice.
Somehow, the graves were now interspersed with what appeared to be long trees, no roots... from above, making the dark surroundings even less visible.
Hugo was sitting on one such root, his eyes glazed and open, his mouth ajar.
And a gaping hole about a foot wide through his chest.
Bjorn turned rapidly to face an attack Icarus had not even heard coming.
A shattering sound resounded out from Bjorn's location.
Pieces of his sword flew in every direction, one such piece slashing Icarus' cheek wide open.
He gazed at the sight before him.
Bjorn's body was deformed and pressed into the ground, his arms and legs bending at strange angles.
Hugo's voice came from the thing in front of him.
"Over here! its Here!"
What you might call its hand then reached out and crushed Bjorn's head in an instant.
Icarus shouted helplessly, calling deep from his soul for something to save them.
Lance opened his eyes.
