He would never admit such an absurd thing.
But even that wasn't the most unbearable part. What he couldn't accept was the implication in Agent Mobius's words: that everything he had achieved, every position he had gained, was simply his predetermined fate.
And those things he craved, those he coveted, were things he was destined never to obtain.
In other words, everything he wanted now was unattainable. The throne he dreamed of, the fair chance to compete with his brother Thor, his parents' approval—everything he longed for was gone.
And the explanation was simple: *You weren't destined for it.*
If that were the case, he would have preferred to hear, "You can't defeat Thor, so you'll never get the throne."
At least then he could blame himself for not trying hard enough and scheme to find other ways to succeed. But to be denied everything simply because it wasn't his destiny? That was too absurd.
He had just finished his outburst when he saw the video continue playing, and he froze.
He saw himself and his mother, the mother he had conjured with illusion magic, just after he would be imprisoned.
"Then the Dark Elves attacked the Royal Palace. You thought you had lured them to Thor!" Agent Mobius explained.
In the video, Loki was telling a Dark Elf assassin, "You should have taken the left staircase!"
And that Dark Elf assassin was the one who would ultimately kill his mother.
"But instead, you sent them..."
Agent Mobius said, his tone laced with teasing.
Though he didn't finish the sentence, everyone outside the screen had already seen this part—a major tragedy in the Sacred Timeline.
For Thor, the mere thought was enough to break his heart, even though it happened in a different timeline.
Yet the mere possibility made it hard to breathe.
Of course, Loki's original plan to guide the Dark Elves to kill him was perfectly ignored. As long as his brother wasn't targeting their mother, even if it was himself, he didn't care if he died.
He wouldn't get angry about such things; otherwise, he'd have died of rage long ago. He'd experienced countless such betrayals since childhood.
On the screen, Agent Mobius continued playing the video, quickly reaching the scene where Queen Frigga was killed by the Dark Elf leader.
At this sight, Loki lost his composure. He was about to explode.
He roared, "Where did you lock her up? Where is she?"
Moments before, Loki had maintained a basic level of dignity as a god, but when it came to the mother who had raised him since childhood, he erupted.
He couldn't accept what he was seeing.
True, he resented Odin and resented his brother Thor. But toward the mother who had loved him as if he were her own, he felt not a shred of resentment.
Did he not see how others treated him?
Queen Frigga had even taught Loki all her witch's skills—a privilege her biological son, Thor, had never received.
So he knew with absolute clarity whether his mother had truly cared for him.
Now, seeing his future self's mistake lead to her death, his mental state shattered. He desperately wanted to deny everything before him.
Agent Mobius stated calmly, "You led them to her."
"I don't believe you! You're lying! This isn't true!" Loki growled repeatedly, his eyes wide with disbelief.
He had never imagined that one day his father would die, his mother would die—the family who had been by his side for over a thousand years. The concept of death had never truly existed in his mind.
Though the Asgardian pantheon didn't possess true immortality like some other divine races, at just a thousand years old, he was barely considered an adult by their standards. He hadn't even reached the stage where he should be contemplating the mortality of his parents.
Now, Loki's mind had completely shattered.
"This is the truth!" Agent Mobius shattered Loki's delusion. "This is the correct timeline, and it happens again and again because that's how it's supposed to be!"
"It *must* be this way!" Mobius continued, his voice unwavering. "And the Time Variance Authority will ensure it happens!"
His absolute certainty and conviction sent everyone watching—outside the frame—into a frenzy. Just like Loki, they too were completely shattered.
Though their thoughts differed from Loki's, the essence was the same: everyone has their share of tragic pasts.
Take Captain America, Steve Rogers, who missed his dance with Peggy Carter. Tony Stark lost his parents. Black Widow endured the Red Room. At the end, she had to sacrifice her life for the Soul Stone. Hulk was hunted, losing even his girlfriend.
Doctor Strange was destined to break up with Christine, lose all his wealth, and have his hands destroyed.
Scarlet Witch Wanda lost her brother, husband, and two sons—each a human tragedy.
These were all things they had tried to avoid, things they had fought to change.
Yet now they were told it was all predetermined, fixed by some higher power!
And it would happen again and again, because the Time Variance Authority would prune any future that deviated from this outcome.
They would have no chance.
How many would die in the process?
Thanos only killed half the life in the universe.
And what about this Time Variance Authority?
With a casual wave, they could create a timeline that might contain countless times the number of lives Thanos wiped out.
They didn't have to endure this, but for the sake of the Prime Timeline, it had to happen.
What kind of bullshit logic is this?!
To hell with fate, to hell with the Time Variance Authority, to hell with the Sacred Timeline!
Everyone was furious.
For the first time, they found themselves on the same side as Loki.
The existence of the Time Variance Authority was a mountain crushing them, a suffocating weight.
As for the future timeline war that would collapse the Multiverse, frankly, they couldn't concern themselves with such distant matters. If they were rational, they might even acknowledge the existence of the Sacred Timeline—the Prime Timeline.
But right now, they were so enraged they couldn't think straight.
Besides, if the Sacred Timeline were truly rational, wouldn't that make them all illegal entities?
On the screen, Loki heard these words. His mind was filled only with the death of his mother. He asked blankly, "Where is she?"
Agent Mobius replied with a hint of mockery, "Now tell me, do you enjoy hurting people?"
He had no sympathy for someone who valued human lives so little.
This was reality. If he didn't need Loki, he wouldn't have bothered wasting his breath.
"Do you like killing?"
"I don't believe you!"
"I'll kill you!"
Loki growled low, like a wounded beast.
"Oh, just like you killed your mother?" Agent Mobius sneered.
Hearing this, Loki finally erupted in fury. He grabbed a chair and hurled it at the screen, but it was useless.
In the next instant, time reset, returning him to his original position, utterly unable to pose any threat to Agent Mobius.
"I'm sorry, time distortion only loops you, not the furniture," Agent Mobius stated matter-of-factly.
The group exchanged glances, their suspicions confirmed. As they had guessed, Mobius's ability to control Loki's time likely stemmed from the collar. Without it, Loki remained unaffected.
If they were to face the Time Variance Authority in the future, they might need similar tools.
Conversely, this also highlighted the TVA's terrifying power: a group of ordinary humans, armed with special devices, could treat a god like Loki as they pleased.
Agent Mobius continued calmly, "Loki, you weren't born to rule. Your existence only brings pain, disaster, and death!"
"It was true in the past, it's true now, and it will remain true in the future!"
"Only then can everyone become their best selves!"
At that moment, Agent Mobius began playing footage on the screen— footage of the Avengers.
The Avengers watching the screen fell silent, having understood Agent Mobius's explanation.
In this Marvel Universe, people were artificially divided into heroes and villains, protagonists and antagonists.
They were the protagonists, or at least supporting characters.
Considered good guys, in a way.
But Loki was different. He was the villain, his very existence serving to elevate the greatness of these protagonists.
Though their positions were diametrically opposed to Loki's, hearing someone talk about people as mere tools instinctively stirred a flicker of resentment in the group.
Loki refused to believe what he was seeing, repeatedly demanding, "What is this place?"
Only now was Loki beginning to accept this reality. Perhaps this place truly held the key to the entire timeline. For the first time, he might be truly confronting the truth of this timeline, the truth of this world, the truth of the Multiverse.
