Chapter 316 - After the Snap, a Timeline of Endless Despair

"She has the ability to Space Jump," Tony Stark suddenly said from off-screen. "Without it, even flying at light speed, this spaceship would take two thousand years to reach the next supply point. And clearly, I in the Sacred Timeline wouldn't survive that long. The only logical explanation is that she can Space Jump. This also aligns with what Fury told us—that she operates across the cosmos, saving planets. With such vast distances between them, she couldn't possibly do that without such an ability."

The group gasped in unison. For an Interstellar Civilization, seeing spaceships perform Space Jumps was commonplace—they'd witnessed it countless times in Lin Feng's videos.

*That's nothing new!*

It's a fairly standard technology, even if it remains cutting-edge for humanity.

But the idea of a single person being able to traverse wormholes—without the aid of divine artifacts like the Space Stone—was utterly beyond their comprehension.

*I have to admit, Celestial-tier beings are terrifying indeed.*

Though they didn't know how she did it, Captain Marvel's terrifying power was undeniable.

"I couldn't stop him!" Tony Stark said dejectedly, his voice raspy and weak, each word requiring a deep, labored breath. Days without food and long confinement in the spaceship had taken a devastating toll on his body and mind.

"I couldn't stop him either!"

Captain America offered comfort, reminding him that failing to stop Thanos wasn't their fault—Thanos was simply too powerful. They had united, given their all, and still been utterly outmatched.

Being utterly crushed by a single opponent was a bitter pill to swallow.

"Wait... that kid... he sacrificed himself!" Tony Stark looked at Captain America, his face etched with guilt.

Everyone watching knew exactly who he was referring to—Little Spider, Peter Parker.

If the others had once been unaware of the depth of the bond between Little Spider and Tony Stark, years of reading his diaries had made it undeniable: Peter Parker was Tony's non-biological son, his beloved son.

Watching the little one fade away in his arms was a feeling of absolute despair, suffocating.

Captain America Rogers could only say, "Tony, we lost!"

He understood Tony Stark's pain, but he could only offer comfort; there was nothing he could do to help.

"So..." Tony Stark was about to speak when Pepper Potts suddenly ran over and hugged him, repeatedly murmuring, "Oh my God, oh my God!"

"It's okay, it's okay!" Tony Stark said, kissing Pepper Potts.

With that, everyone walked into the Avengers' base together.

The audience watching the scene fell into a deep silence.

Though this wasn't the first time they'd witnessed the aftermath of a snap, unlike the later incident with Little Spider opening the Multiverse, back then everyone had been brought back. Apart from Tony Stark's sacrifice, everything else had been perfect, so the mood hadn't been somber.

But now was different. Everything felt utterly hopeless. Over half of the world's population was gone, Hawkeye Barton's entire family had been snapped away—everything was so dark.

It was a feeling of utter despair!

Half the world's population had perished, a truly catastrophic situation where everyone was caught in the chaos. No one could protect themselves; survival depended entirely on luck, rendering all efforts to safeguard themselves utterly meaningless.

Nick Fury said, "It seems the communicator I activated in the end worked. Otherwise, Captain Marvel wouldn't have returned at such a crucial moment and brought Tony back!"

Everyone could see that Fury was clearly trying to claim credit.

Just moments ago, they had been blaming him. Now that Tony Stark had been saved, they had to give him credit.

"But wasn't Captain Marvel supposed to have disappeared decades ago?" Hawkeye Barton asked. "She doesn't look a day older. Do Celestial-tier beings have various methods of extending their lifespans?"

There was a hint of envy in his voice.

After all, who wouldn't want to live forever? Why else would the wealthy invest so much money if not for eternal youth? Yet here was someone who had achieved it effortlessly.

While Nick Fury was also elderly and looked younger than his years, the contrast was stark. One appeared vibrant and full of vitality, while the other clearly showed the signs of advanced age.

Even Nick Fury was shocked. He hadn't seen this old friend in years, and yet he looked exactly the same as he remembered. Meanwhile, Fury himself had aged so much. It was hard to put into words.

The group also thought about the Celestial-tier experts they knew. It seemed none of them suffered from the limitations of mortality. Even Sorcerer Supreme Gu Yi could draw energy from the Dark Dimension to achieve immortality. As for the others?

At that level, living for hundreds or even thousands of years seemed to be the norm.

There was even Odin, who had lived for hundreds of thousands of years, and Dormammu, who had likely lived for millions or even longer.

This wasn't just about increased power; it was a leap in life's essence to an unimaginable degree.

Thor, the God of Thunder, was already a divine being, but he was still several tiers below the Celestial-tier. In the entire Multiverse, there were likely fewer than ten known Celestial-tier beings, which spoke volumes about the extraordinary nature of their existence.

"This is just absurd," Tony Stark muttered, half in awe and half in disbelief. "This isn't human, not even God-like. It's practically the same as the God of legends."

The existence of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, was a complete upheaval of his worldview and understanding. He was utterly stunned when he saw her appear outside a spaceship in a video.

What about Thor, the Prince of Asgard, a God with a Divine Office? Even he had to use a spaceship to travel through the cosmos.

And what about the Hulk? The supposedly indestructible beast whose strength grew with his rage? He still needed a spaceship for space travel.

While Asgard could use the Bifrost to traverse the Nine Realms, that was a teleportation technology, not a means for Asgardians to physically cross the universe.

Take Loki, for example. When he fell from the Bifrost, everyone assumed he was dead. No normal person—or even a normal God—could survive the void of space.

Yet he was able to traverse the universe with his bare body. Coupled with Lin Feng's claim that his combat power rivaled the Celestial-tier, and the apparent ability of such beings to navigate the cosmos effortlessly, he couldn't help but wonder: *Is this a special ability exclusive to the Celestial-tier?*

And the ability to cross the entire universe in just a dozen hours, covering thousands of light-years? That was just too absurd.

"That's understandable," Nick Fury said. "Her primary duty is to maintain peace across the galaxy. If she can't Space Jump, how can she uphold that responsibility?"

"Then we should bring her back early," Bruce Banner interjected. "With our current Combat Power, there's no reason not to. I'm sick of living under the constant threat of Thanos!"

Thanos had left a deep psychological scar on him. Though it was Hulk who had been traumatized, Hulk was his ultimate trump card. If even Hulk feared Thanos and was driven into a state of withdrawal, it meant Thanos was far more terrifying than they had imagined.

"I think you might be underestimating Thanos," Captain America Rogers said, his brow furrowed in concern. "Captain Marvel may be powerful, but it's uncertain if she can match him. Moreover, Thanos likely possesses several Infinity Stones. With their power, can Captain Marvel still stand a chance?"

"But we have Lin Feng too," Hawkeye Barton added. "His strength is considerable. The situation might not be as dire as we think."

The scene shifted to a conference room where the surviving Avengers gathered. Among those present were Tony Stark, Captain America Rogers, Captain Marvel Carol Danvers, Colonel James Rhodes (War Machine), and Black Widow Natasha Romanoff.

These were the attendees of the meeting so far. Those who hadn't appeared were unlikely to show up now.

The group immediately witnessed the devastating consequences of Thanos' snap.

"Governments have collapsed, and the remaining departments are conducting population counts..." Black Widow Natasha briefed the remaining Avengers on the current situation. A projection displayed the faces of many who had perished, including Scarlet Witch Wanda, Ant-Man Scott, Hank Pym, and others.

These were just the superheroes. The number of ordinary people lost was incalculable.

"Based on the data, it seems he did exactly what he said! Thanos took half of all life!" Natasha paused before continuing.

"Where is he? Where?!" Iron Man Tony Stark demanded after a moment of silence.

"We don't know. He opened a portal and left!" Captain America Rogers shrugged, looking resigned.

Tony Stark let out a bitter, mocking laugh. He pointed at Thor, who was standing nearby, and asked, "What's wrong with him?"

Tony Stark was now gaunt and emaciated, a result of the lack of food on the spaceship. He looked at least ten years older than he had before their mission to Titan, all the swagger and confidence gone.
