Chapter 13 - CHAPTER THIRTEEN: PLANNING THE PERFECT DATE

Kareem leaned back in his chair, swirling the last of his coffee. "So… you're telling me you want to make this dinner unforgettable, but Layla has no clue? This sounds dangerous… and brilliant."

"Exactly," Liam said, grinning. "I want it to feel effortless, like everything just… falls into place. But I also want her to feel noticed. Cared for."

Kareem smirked. "Step one: wardrobe. You can't just show up and expect her to look amazing by chance. We're talking a full outfit upgrade."

Liam raised an eyebrow. "Without her knowing?"

"Trust me," Kareem said, leaning in conspiratorially. "I've done this before. Women love a little thoughtful mystery. Pick the colors, fabrics… I'll do the rest. We'll make her shine without her realizing we're plotting it."

Liam laughed. "Fine. But we'll need her size, measurements, style preference… I don't want to look like a fool handing her something she'll hate."

"Leave that to me," Kareem said, pulling out his notebook. "I've been watching her Insta, her recent posts… and don't worry. I know what will make her feel confident. Step one: outfit. Step two: accessories. Shoes, clutch, maybe even a little perfume. Step three: the venue. I'm thinking somewhere intimate, candle-lit… maybe a rooftop with the city lights. Perfect view, soft music."

Liam's grin widened. "You're going full rom-com, huh?"

"Not rom-com. Masterclass in wooing," Kareem corrected, a glint in his eyes. "And step four: a few little surprises during dinner. Something unexpected but not overwhelming. Maybe a song dedication? Or a small gift that hints I've been listening closely to what she likes."

Liam nodded, already imagining her smile, the way her eyes would light up. "Alright. Clothes first, venue second, gifts third. All while keeping it seamless."

"And of course," Kareem added, "you'll be charming, funny, and completely yourself. That's step five. Non-negotiable."

Liam chuckled. "Step six: you get out of my way while I do my thing."

"Deal," Kareem said, raising his coffee cup. "This is going to be legendary. Layla won't know what hit her."

And as they clinked cups, Liam felt a rush of excitement mixed with nerves. He had planned surprises before, but tonight… tonight was different. He wanted to show her she could trust him. He wanted her to feel seen, adored, and safe.

All while making sure she had no clue just how much effort he'd put into making it unforgettable.

The next morning, Liam and Kareem were already on the move. The city buzzed around them, but inside their plan, there was only one mission: make Layla's dinner night unforgettable.

Kareem guided Liam through a series of upscale boutiques, each one more elegant than the last.

"Step one: outfit," Kareem whispered like a general issuing orders. "You need to pick something that says, 'I notice every little thing about her,' without screaming it."

Liam held up a silk blouse, pale lavender in color. "Too soft?"

"Soft is good. Gentle, approachable," Kareem said, flipping through a rack of skirts. "Now, this skirt—mid-length, classic cut. Safe bet. Not too flashy, but it will turn heads."

Liam nodded, already imagining Layla slipping into it, the way her hair would fall against the soft fabric.

Next, they moved to the accessories section. Kareem picked out a delicate pendant and matching earrings. "Subtle, elegant, memorable. She'll notice the thought, but won't guess it's from us."

"And shoes?" Liam asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Comfortable heels that don't scream 'ouch.' She'll need to be able to walk confidently." Kareem smirked. "We're not trying to sabotage the evening, remember."

As they packed the items neatly in a gift bag, Liam felt a mix of excitement and nerves. "Do you think she'll like it?"

"She'll love it," Kareem said, clapping him on the shoulder. "Because it's not just clothes. It's the thought behind them. And trust me—women notice that more than you think."

They added a light, floral perfume to the bag, just enough to hint at familiarity without being overpowering.

Finally, Kareem gave Liam the last piece of advice. "Remember, the goal is subtlety. You want her to feel adored, noticed, cared for… all without realizing you went through three stores to get it right."

Liam grinned, shaking his head. "I can't wait to see her face."

"Neither can I," Kareem said with a laugh. "Now, mission wardrobe: complete. Next up… venue and surprises."

And as they stepped out into the bustling streets, the gift bag in Liam's hands felt lighter than it should have. Because inside, it wasn't just clothes and accessories—it was a carefully crafted message: I see you. I notice you. I care.

Layla was buried in paperwork, her focus split between spreadsheets and emails, when a knock at the reception startled her.

"Delivery for Layla?" the young courier asked, holding a neatly wrapped package.

"Yes… I wasn't expecting anything," she said, furrowing her brows.

The courier handed over the box with a polite nod. Layla opened it slowly at her desk, curiosity prickling at her. Inside, she found a carefully folded outfit—soft lavender blouse, a mid-length skirt—and a small, elegantly wrapped box.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she untied the ribbon. A delicate pendant and earrings gleamed inside, along with a tiny card:

"For the smile that makes everything brighter. –L"

Her heart skipped a beat. L? Liam?

Confusion mingled with delight. "Who… sent this?" she whispered to herself, glancing around the office. No one seemed to know.

By now, a few colleagues had noticed the gift, murmuring their curiosity. Layla's mind raced. Was this a mistake? Did someone just send me a gift for fun?

She picked up the perfume vial included in the package, the faint scent making her breath hitch. The attention to detail was impeccable. Whoever had done this had really thought it through…

And then it clicked. It has to be Liam.

Her pulse quickened, part excitement, part nervousness. She couldn't stop a small smile from forming as she imagined him, maybe with Kareem's help, planning this little surprise without her knowledge.

The afternoon passed in a blur. Every time she glanced at the items, her fingers brushed over the fabric, the jewelry, and the tiny card. The thought that Liam had gone through this much effort just for her made her chest tighten in a way she hadn't felt in a long time.

By the end of the day, Layla whispered into the quiet office, a shy grin spreading across her face: "I have a feeling dinner is going to be… unforgettable."

As soon as Layla got home from work, she didn't bother putting her bag down properly. She grabbed her phone and dialed Zara's number, practically bouncing on her heels.

"Zara! You won't believe what just happened!" she exclaimed the moment her friend picked up.

Zara laughed. "Calm down, Layla. Did someone try to kidnap you at work? Or… is this about Mr. Hot Chocolate again?"

Layla giggled, her fingers fidgeting with the pendant in her hand. "You'll never guess. A package was delivered to my office today. Clothes… jewelry… perfume… and a little card. It's… it's from Liam!"

Zara's voice picked up, teasing yet incredulous. "Wait. He sent you a gift… before the dinner? He's serious, isn't he?"

Layla nodded furiously. "I know! I mean… it's so thoughtful, Zara. He even picked my favorite colors. And the card… he called me by my initial… L… it's so subtle, but it feels so personal!"

Zara's laugh softened. "Girl, I knew he was a keeper. Only someone who actually notices you would do something like that. Are you freaking out or happy?"

"Both!" Layla admitted, a wide smile spreading across her face. "I've never had anyone pay this much attention to me. And he did it without me even knowing! I don't know… it's overwhelming, but in the best way."

"See?" Zara said, her tone gentle. "This is what I was telling you. He's different. Patient. Thoughtful. And he respects your space. Trust him, Layla. You deserve this."

Layla exhaled, feeling a warmth in her chest she hadn't felt in a long time. "I know, I just… I'm nervous. I want to see him tonight, but what if… what if it's too much?"

Zara's voice softened. "It won't be too much. He wants you to feel safe. Remember that. Just enjoy it."

Layla smiled, clutching the pendant. "Okay. I'll try. But I can't stop thinking about him. This whole thing… it's like a dream."

"Then go live the dream, Layla," Zara said firmly. "And don't forget to tell me everything afterward."

Layla laughed, a mix of nerves and excitement bubbling up. "You'll be the first to know. I promise." What am I even saying girl, we are going together.

And as she hung up, she held the clothes and jewelry close, imagining the evening ahead, feeling her heart beat faster at the thought of seeing Liam and the surprises he had in store.

The sun was dipping behind the city skyline as Layla prepared for the evening. Her room was filled with soft shadows, the lavender outfit carefully laid out on the bed. She picked up the delicate pendant and earrings, turning them over in her hands, still marveling at the thoughtfulness behind them.

Her phone buzzed.

> Liam: Hope you're ready for tonight… but don't rush. Let it build.

Layla's heart skipped. He hadn't given her any details about the evening. No mention of the venue, the exact time, or even what she should expect beyond "dinner." The mystery thrilled her and terrified her all at once.

She called Zara to share her nerves. "He didn't tell me where we're going or what to expect. And now… I can't stop thinking about it." Just get ready and come over. We're going together.

Zara laughed softly. "That's the point, Layla. That suspense? That's him making you anticipate every moment. Trust me, it's part of the charm."

"I know," Layla admitted, biting her lip. "But it also makes me nervous. What if I don't like it? Or what if it's too much?"

"Then it's perfect," Zara said firmly. "You've never experienced someone like Liam before. He's not like the others. Let him surprise you."

Layla exhaled slowly, taking a deep breath. She tried to calm the racing of her heart, but each passing minute felt like an eternity. The soft scent of the perfume reminded her of the gift delivery, the pendant sparkled under her lamp, and every detail whispered the same thing: He notices me. He cares.

Her phone buzzed again, a simple text from Liam:

> Liam: See you soon. Be ready… for a night you won't forget.

The words sent a shiver down her spine. Layla closed her eyes, imagining him waiting, the city lights, the rooftop view Kareem had mentioned, the carefully planned surprises, and the attention he had poured into every detail.

And for the first time that evening, she whispered to herself: "I'm ready."
