"..."
Luck's face was the epitome of the word 'blank' as he tried to process what he just heard.
"Can you repeat that?" Luck finally asked, causing the woman's smile to widen.
"I am Nyx, the Goddess of the Night."
"Eh? You kidding, right?
She raised a brow in question. "And why would I?"
Luck just stared at her like she had grown a second head.
"A god. A freakin' god! Do you expect me to believe that a being with immeasurable mortal strength just appeared in the soul of a boy who awakened a month ago?
Nyx pursed her lips. "I suppose so."
Luck snorted. "I call bullshit."
Nyx's smile twitched at this. (Why is he acting like this? From when I started watching him, he's always had a calculating and reserved temperament.)
Nyx shook her head to get rid of useless thoughts. "Anyway, that's not the point. I'm a god, and you better believe it. I don't take kindly to 'unbelievers'."
Luck internally gulped at the threat, but he quickly put it aside.
"What do you want with little ol' me?"
Nyx's smile returned to normal as she answered. "You possess the Gates of the Abyss, meaning you are the chosen one. You are the one who walks the fine line between the divine and unholy."
Luck raised a brow in question. (Is she talking about my physique?)
"It's more than just your physique; it comprises your entire existence. Something you wouldn't understand at your current state."
Luck's expression visibly shook. (What does she mean by it's more than just my physicality? And more importantly-)
"Did you just read my mind?"
Nyx laughed lightly in response. "Of course, you're in a world of my creation, after all, a mortal soul cannot bear the weight of my presence. It would be an embarrassment if I couldn't do something that simple."
Luck was definitely not happy about his inner thoughts being laid out in front of the goddess, but he let it go. He obviously could not voice his opinions in front of the goddess, so he put it aside."
"You still haven't told me what you want from me?"
Her smile turned into a grin. "With your weakened state, you were never going to survive such a heavy dose. I saved your life; therefore, you owe me a favor."
Luck sighed in exasperation. "You're a god, you know? You can order anybody to do your bidding; hell, I'm sure you tell a demigod to take your dog for a walk, and they would comply without fail. Why would you concern yourself with a low awakener, chosen one or not?"
"Nyx's smile morphed into a grin. "Your growth potential is way higher than some Demigod who's reached the end of his tether. I need to secure the bigger fish before other fishermen find out."
"You mean other gods."
"Indeed."
Luck breathed a sigh of exasperation. "Didn't know I was such a hot commodity."
"You can avoid that very easily if you join my side."
Luck eyed her warily. " You sound like a loan shark."
"It isn't a bad deal, believe me?"
"I feel disinclined to do so from a total stranger. And besides, you're a god. You're supposed to be more 'benevolent'. Let it slide."
"I saved your life, remember. A life has immeasurable value, and I don't think you would think so low as to deny your savior a simple request."
(Ugh, I hate that she's right.) Luck thought in frustration as he begrudgingly said, "Fine, I'll hear your request.)
(And as long as it's not anything indecent, I can agree.) Luck thought to himself.
His eyes immediately widened in panic as he realized what he had done, but it was already too late. He had fucked up."
"Ara, to think you would think such thoughts in front of a god," Nyx said as she flashed a smile that wasn't really a smile. "And what makes you think I would stoop so low to breed with a mortal?"
The disdain was palpable in her tone, but Luck couldn't care less, as he was suddenly smashed into the floor by a terrifying pressure.
(Fuck. If this nutcase doesn't kill me, I should really learn to control my thoughts.)
"No one has ever described me as a nutcase," Nyx suddenly said with a 'sweet' smile, placing her hand on her chin, as if in thought.
(Now I really will die,) Luck wailed as he began to murmur uncontrollably.
Shockingly, and much to the surprise of Luck, Nyx's aura vanished, so suddenly that you would be inclined to believe she hadn't released it at all.
Luck eyed her warily, while he stood up slowly. (I need to be careful around her. She's dangerous.
Nyx flashed a small smile. Her teeth had sharpened. were on full display. "I am."
"..."
An eerie silence pervaded the air. Luck thoroughly kept his face and thoughts blank as he just stared at the goddess.
"I would like you to become my apostle," Nyx spoke suddenly, shattering the already thick silence.
"Eh?" Luck was thoroughly caught off guard.
Nyx rolled her eyes at the sight. "I want to bear my blessing. My divinity. Something like an..."
"An apostle."
Nyx's face brightened. "Yes, exactly that."
"I accept."
"Eh?!" Nyx was surprised.
Luck raised a brow in amusement. "What? I told you I would accept as long as it wasn't XXX. And besides, I have nothing against you. I don't mind what you did, as I would have done the same if my pride was trampled on."]
Nyx stared at me in confusion. "You see me favorably."
"Yes. I have a feeling I'm not going to get a much better offer than this."
Nyx smirked at the statement. "You're not wrong."
