Han Yan smiled at the sight. "Fan-Fan, why don't you take Dong Hai outside to play? I need to speak with your father."
"Mn!" Wei Fan nodded with energy, grabbed Dong Hai's hand and tugged him toward the back.
"Hai-hai, come, come! I'll show you the little rabbits and the chicks! They're so fluffy!" His chatter trailed behind them until the two small figures disappeared.
Liu De came in with the cold water and set it on the table. He sat down close to Wei Jun, his hands folded tightly in his lap.
Han Yan looked at the two of them and smiled.
"You don't need to be so tense. I have good news. Dong Hai agreed to the betrothal with Fan-Fan."
He paused briefly before continuing, his smile growing warmer.
"He said he likes seeing Fan-Fan smile, so he wants to help."
The room fell silent. Wei Jun's hand froze halfway to his knee, Liu De's breath caught in his throat, and even the sunlight on the table seemed to hold still. Neither dared to blink, afraid it might vanish.
