After spending a night in the undercity, we began our preparations to raid the crypt. I've got my new equipment from the dwarf to try out. All that remains is to make the journey.
"The Black Crypt gets its name from the necromancers who first held it. They were attracted to the dungeon's undead, which they could control with magic. When they encountered us, they saw us as more challenging prey for the same magic.
"Some decades past, a new group came and dispossessed them. This was a welcome change. The cult is mostly quiet, taking interest in the earth beneath rather than those who walk upon it.
"But, after a time, we began to feel their presence. They created constructs to patrol the tunnels and dungeon, which attack us on sight. They gradually expanded their patrols until they were too close for comfort. They decided that the undercity wasn't big enough to share anymore.
"We will soon cross into territory they patrol. Be alert." Some distance after his warning, the air quality changes. The walls bear scattered writing. A subtle sound seems to be just beyond my ability to hear. "An enemy is approaching. Hide, if you can, or keep your distance from the-"
In a scene that would fit the sound of screeching tires, a floating object silently speeds around the curve in the tunnel and accelerates toward me.
It shrieks in an artificial voice, "INTRUDER!"
