In mid-air, circles of light spheres enveloped in silver light appeared, then all crashed down, kicking up clouds of dust.
Among them was Huo Yuhao. He reacted quickly, warily scanning his surroundings. He saw many soul beasts lying on their backs, the silvery-white light remaining on their bodies from the fruit they had consumed still lingering. As if by fate, a 100,000-year-old soul beast also looked at him.
The two, less than five meters apart, locked eyes.
The air was silent for a few seconds.
The next moment, the soul beast's pupils contracted, and a terrifying surge of soul power was about to be released.
"Excuse me." Huo Yuhao smiled awkwardly but politely, then quickly darted away towards the outside of the Jingyang Mountains.
For some reason, the soul beast's soul power, which should have erupted, was restrained by the lingering moonlight on its body, and it could only watch helplessly as the human departed.
"Buzz."
But before Huo Yuhao had slipped away very far, a slight buzzing sound suddenly rang out within his spiritual sea.
He paused, his eyelids lowered; the sun mark left on Blackwater had been triggered.
Blackwater's notification at this time must be something urgent.
Finding a safe location and confirming no soul beasts could track him, Huo Yuhao quickly reconnected to the sun mark on Blackwater's side.
A slight fluctuation occurred, followed by a voice, "Master."
"What is it?" Huo Yuhao murmured to himself.
"That Dai Huabin wants to kill you. The Holy Spirit Sect has sent two titled Douluo-level elders to help. From what I understand, they are both at level ninety-three." Blackwater stated bluntly.
"Heh, he really couldn't resist." Huo Yuhao raised an eyebrow. "When exactly will they act?"
After all, being in the Sun Moon Empire, Huo Yuhao had long been prepared for his identity to be exposed. With Blackwater hidden within the Holy Spirit Sect, they could inform him immediately of any actions against him.
"They've already taken action. Dai Huabin seems to know your whereabouts and is waiting to ambush you upon your return," Hei Shui said in a deep voice. "Master, those two Title Douluos are very strong; please be careful."
Huo Yuhao was silent for a moment, then said, "I'll give you a landmark. Go there; our academy's experts are there. Tell them about my situation. Can you do that?"
"Yes," Hei Shui said decisively.
"You can go out freely?" Huo Yuhao was worried that Hei Shui's personal travel might expose him.
Hei Shui smiled. "I just have some good news to tell you. I've been given the opportunity to transport resources by the Holy Spirit Cult. In the various branch altars of the Sun Moon Empire, they will deliver the collected souls and corpses to the main altar. I've been assigned this task. The task itself is easy, and it will take some time for the branch altars to arrive in Mingdu. During that time, I can move freely."
"You've been assigned to transport cultivation resources?" Huo Yuhao's eyes lit up.
"Yes," Hei Shui said.
"Very well, very well." A cold glint appeared on Huo Yuhao's face. "Once the cultivation resources for these evil soul masters arrive, contact me immediately. I want to see what the backlash will be like after absorbing souls and flesh mixed with the power of the sun."
"Yes, sir." Hei Shui quickly replied.
The two didn't chat for long. The return journey was always faster than the way they came. Following the original route, he quickly left the outermost edge of the Jingyang Mountains, the place where he had parted ways with Ju Zi and the others. By this time, the sky was already beginning to lighten.
However, Huo Yuhao was stunned as soon as he came out, because Ju Zi and Ke Ke were still by the stream, chatting by the fire next to the tent.
Seemingly sensing someone approaching, the two women immediately became alert, but their eyes lit up when they saw Huo Yuhao.
"You're back." Ju Zi looked Huo Yuhao up and down, as if afraid he was missing an arm or a leg.
"You guys..." Huo Yuhao was slightly surprised. "Why didn't you come back?"
"We were waiting for you, weren't we?" Keke said casually. "Although we didn't dare to go deep into the Jingyang Mountains with you, we could still wait for you outside. Luckily you came out alive, otherwise we wouldn't be able to explain to Teacher Xuan when we got back."
As she spoke, Keke patted her almost weightless chest and let out a long sigh to express her feelings.
Huo Yuhao chuckled. Indeed, if he had disappeared, Xuan Ziwen would have been in considerable trouble.
"Did you find anything inside?" Ju Zi asked curiously.
"No, I was even almost targeted by a 100,000-year-old soul beast." Huo Yuhao started acting, shaking his head and saying, looking quite regretful.
Seeing this, Ju Zi said "Oh," and then said, "Since you're back, let's pack our things and get ready to go back. We should be able to get there before noon."
"Okay." Huo Yuhao naturally agreed.
Keke cheered excitedly, "This is the first time I've done such an easy test mission! Let's all team up again sometime!"
Orange, packing up the tent, pointed out Keke's little secret, "You're thinking of having two chefs serving you, aren't you?"
"Hehe." Keke chuckled sheepishly, pinching her nose after being caught red-handed.
"Let's go!"
Once everything was packed, the three immediately took to the air, heading back towards Mingdu.
...
Mingdu was vast. Walking through it, Heishui muttered the coordinates Huo Yuhao had given him, eventually arriving at a place called the Owl Hotel.
It was late at night, and the hotel lobby was quiet. Warm sunlight streamed in through the glass windows, casting dappled shadows. The receptionist noticed Heishui and smiled professionally, "How can I help you?"
Heishui glanced around and immediately whispered, "I was sent by Huo Yuhao to see Elder Xuan."
Upon hearing Huo Yuhao and Elder Xuan, the receptionist's professional smile vanished instantly, replaced by an extremely serious expression. She quietly pressed a button on the front desk, and soon another staff member approached from a distance.
The waiter was a man. He glanced at Blackwater, who was wearing a mask, and said, "Follow me."
Blackwater was slightly surprised as he looked at the waitress. This man's cultivation was very high; he was at least a Soul Saint or higher.
No wonder it was Shrek Academy's outpost in Mingdu.
Following the waiter closely, Blackwater was quickly led deeper into the hotel. As a hidden door opened, the waiter said, "Please come in."
"Thank you." Blackwater's expression became more respectful, and he strode inside.
Inside the hidden door, the lights were bright. It was a straight corridor, with an elevator at the far end. After Blackwater went in, the elevator immediately rose. When the door opened, he found himself in a simply decorated bedroom.
A faint aroma of roasted chicken legs wafted through the air. Sniffing the air, Blackwater entered and quickly spotted an elderly man engrossed in a meal on the sofa.
"Yuhao sent you?" the old man asked without looking up. It was none other than Xuanzi, who was guarding the Mingdu stronghold in place of Mu En. The coffee table in front of him was laden with food and a large gourd.
However, the gourd clearly contained juice, not wine.
"Elder Xuan, my lord sent me to request your assistance," Blackwater said, bowing.
"My lord?" This address caused Xuanzi to pause for a moment in his chicken-eating. He looked up at Blackwater. "Yuhao is your lord?"
"Yes," Blackwater nodded.
"This kid has quite a few secrets..." Xuanzi sighed slightly. "What happened?"
Heishui said in a deep voice, "The Holy Spirit Cult has sent two Title Douluo-level evil soul masters to ambush Master on the way. We need your help to resolve this."
"Whoosh." A cold glint flashed in Xuanzi's eyes, but he was also somewhat curious. "How did you know that the Holy Spirit Cult's evil soul masters were planning to ambush Yuhao?"
"Because I'm an inside man," Heishui explained. "I was someone who went astray but was rescued by Master, and from then on, I submitted to Master."
"An evil soul master turned righteous?" Xuanzi frowned.
"Yes," Heishui nodded again.
Xuanzi gave Heishui a deep look, his eyes flickering slightly. "Do you know where and when those evil soul masters ambushed us?"
Heishui replied, "My lord is on his way back. The location is twenty miles north of Mingdu. There's a trading area there. Anyone coming from the Jingyang Mountains or other northern cities must stop there to trade and rest. Because within twenty miles of Mingdu, no one is allowed to fly without permission. If you don't want to walk, you must take a carriage from there to enter Mingdu. Of course, if you bring your own carriage, you don't need to worry about that."
Xuanzi said expressionlessly, "I understand."
Heishui saw the killing intent in Xuanzi's eyes and bowed again. "Then I'll take my leave."
Xuanzi said nothing more and silently resumed eating his chicken leg, his hands covered in oil.
Heishui's lips twitched slightly as he turned and left.
Only after leaving the Owl Hotel did Heishui unable to help but complain inwardly, "This powerful expert my lord found seems unreliable. Should I go to the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy to find someone else?"
Thinking it over, Blackwater shook his head and then walked into the darkness. It was almost morning in Mingdu.
Just as his figure disappeared into the darkness, he suddenly stopped, his peripheral vision noticing two figures entering the Owl Hotel.
He turned around and looked.
They were two women, dressed in close-fitting clothes, one fiery red, the other dark purple. They quickly entered the hotel.
Seemingly assuming they were guests, Blackwater didn't bother to observe any longer and turned to leave.
...
"What did the Crown Prince say?"
In the trading area, the accommodations had gradually changed from tents to many wooden cabins, as if returning to ten thousand years ago. This was mainly because accommodations in Mingdu were expensive, while those in the trading area were much cheaper. In
a simple wooden cabin, on the second floor, Netherworld Douluo was holding a teacup, asking the Fourth Elder, Netherworld Douluo.
"What else can he say? He's just questioning the Holy Spirit Sect's execution capabilities. Ha, he says he's dissatisfied, but he's probably secretly overjoyed. After all, the next battle will be between us and the Sun and Moon Nobles. He just needs to sit back and reap the benefits." Netherworld Douluo sneered contemptuously, then sighed,
"I didn't expect this mission to go wrong like this. But the Sun and Moon Emperor didn't issue a pursuit order, probably because he's wary of our strength and doesn't want to cause a complete confrontation between the two sides."
Nether Thunder Douluo sighed, "That Moonlight Earl is too cunning. Who makes money and doesn't think about expanding their business? Instead, they spend money to arm themselves."
"Third Brother, you don't need to blame yourself. The Sect Leader also said that we're just temporarily suspending our plan against the nobles. After the hatred for the Body Sect rises within Mingdu, we'll find a suitable opportunity to reappear. At that time, wiping out the Moonlight Earl's entire family will be the same." Fourth Elder comforted him.
The Third Elder shook his head, then picked up his teacup. "Let's not talk about this anymore, let's drink tea."
"Beep beep." Suddenly, just as the two were sipping their tea, a rapid beeping sound rang out. Their expressions changed, and they instantly put down their teacups, letting the tea spill over their hands.
"Third Elder, Fourth Elder, the target has appeared." A deep voice came through the communication soul tool.
The two exchanged glances, their eyes flashing with killing intent.
...
In the sky, occasionally, people releasing flying soul tools arrived. Their destination was the same: a small town that appeared to be quite large.
Among them were Huo Yuhao, Ju Zi, and Ke Ke.
After flying five hundred kilometers, they were finally about to arrive in Mingdu.
Knowing that flying was prohibited within twenty miles of Mingdu, the three quickly landed on the ground and entered the trading area, which resembled a small town, from the entrance. A cacophony of noise filled their ears.
"Vegetables for sale! Freshest produce, greenhouse-grown, ready to be picked anytime!"
"Five hundred catties of genuine soul beast meat, details to be discussed."
"Our team is short of a defensive soul master, those willing to join, generous compensation, come quick!"
"Looking to buy Iron Heart Flower, Golden Grass, and other medicinal herbs, price negotiable."
"Roasted meat patties, roasted meat patties, money back guarantee if you don't like them."
"Give me something that doesn't taste good."
"You son of a bitch..."
Whether it was the shouts of vendors selling food or seeking medicinal herbs, or calls to form teams to go to the Imperial Soul Beast Hunting Grounds, the bustling sounds rose and fell, creating a lively atmosphere.
The air was filled with the aroma of food, and Orange and Coco were already starving, so they couldn't resist going to a roadside stall selling roasted meat.
Huo Yuhao followed them at a leisurely pace, casually looking around. The people here were all quite busy, and you could see people arriving at any time on oxcarts carrying goods.
The trading area was established to prevent merchants from being overcharged when trading in Mingdu, thus eliminating middlemen and their markups.
It developed gradually, from being illegal to gaining imperial approval, over many years of trials and tribulations.
Of course, its legal establishment also owes much to the influence of underground forces.
This area also serves as a freight hub; goods from other regions must be inspected here before entering Mingdu, and Mingdu products seeking to be sold in major northern cities also pass through here.
This results in a massive flow of people in the trading area, likely exceeding two hundred thousand.
The extensive network of official roads, like blood vessels, connects the different areas.
"Here." Just as Huo Yuhao was observing his surroundings with interest, Ju Zi and Ke Ke returned. The former handed him a skewer of what looked like a large piece of roasted meat. Huo Yuhao
took a bite; the taste was decent, though not quite as good as his own.
"I'll go rent a carriage. You guys wait here," Ju Zi said, then left.
"I hope Teacher Xuan doesn't have to go on too many missions," Ke Ke said, her mouth puffed out, her speech slightly unclear; she was clearly hungry.
"You guys probably need to stay for many days to complete a mission, right?" Huo Yuhao chuckled.
"Of course," Ke Ke replied helplessly.
Huo Yuhao was about to say something when suddenly, he sensed a killing intent directed at him.
His eyes flashed with a golden light, and he released a powerful burst of mental energy, activating his mental detection soul skill. In an instant, nothing within a thousand meters could hide; several figures hiding in the shadows all fell into his perception range.
"They've come after all... This is Dai Huabin!"
Relying on his mental detection, Huo Yuhao was least afraid of being spied on, but an unexpected event followed: he saw an old acquaintance.
To Huo Yuhao's right, a simple-looking carriage was parked. Through the small window, Dai Huabin was observing him. After so long, his once blond hair had turned black and white, and his once handsome face now seemed somewhat ferocious, perhaps because he had encountered an enemy.
Inside the window, Dai Huabin's fists were clenched tightly together, his killing intent towards Huo Yuhao reaching its peak.
Today, he was going to settle things once and for all. After killing Huo Yuhao, he would return to the Duke's mansion to kill Dai Yueheng another day.
This operation involved two Title Douluos, four Soul Saints, and a dozen Soul Emperors. He refused to believe that they couldn't kill Huo Yuhao.
"He really hates me quite a bit," Huo Yuhao, who had already seen through everything, couldn't help but sigh.
A decent carriage approached on the wide road and finally stopped in front of Huo Yuhao and Keke.
The window opened, and Ju Zi leaned out. "Get in."
Keke naturally rushed over, but Huo Yuhao didn't get in. Instead, he took out a money pouch and tossed it to the waiting coachman.
Under the coachman's bewildered expression, Huo Yuhao calmly said, "I'll drive the carriage. You can get out."
"This..." The coachman was stunned.
"Yuhao, what are you doing?" Ju Zi and Keke couldn't help but ask.
Huo Yuhao didn't explain, his eyes flashing with a sinister light. The coachman's expression froze instantly, then he took the money bag and left the carriage.
Huo Yuhao immediately mounted his horse and began to steer the carriage towards Mingdu.
The coachman looked like a simple, honest man; he probably had a wife and children to support. It was best not to let him die in the ambush.
"Listen to me, you two get off first. Something's about to happen here, and it's dangerous."
Observing the movements of the evil soul masters, Huo Yuhao transmitted his soul power to the two women.
Ju Zi and Ke Ke weren't fools; they immediately understood Huo Yuhao's meaning. Someone was looking for them—no, it should be Huo Yuhao's trouble.
"We're a team. If you're in trouble and we leave, it won't be good." Ju Zi shook her head in objection.
"It's really not good for you to stay. I'm alone, so I can be carefree." Huo Yuhao said calmly.
Hearing this, Ju Zi and Ke Ke wanted to argue, but considering Huo Yuhao's strength, what he said seemed to make sense.
Sigh, when you're weak, you're disliked.
As the carriage left the trading area and proceeded along the official road, in a secluded corner, Ju Zi and Ke Ke had already hidden themselves, watching Huo Yuhao depart...
