Chapter 144 - Secrets Spilled Like Wine

Kacy set Lolita's wineglass beside Yesmin's teacup on the round table. Lolita and Yesmin reclined on the pink sofa, the wallpapered walls echoing their plush elegance.

Lolita's bloodshot gaze locked onto Kacy, her mascara slightly smudged. "Close the curtains," she ordered, pointing with a manicured finger at the arched windows overlooking the garden. "Too much light. It's giving me a splitting headache."

Maybe if she weren't on her third glass, Kacy thought bitterly, flipping the cord. Heavy dark blue drapes slid down, dimming the room.

"I hope my donations helped the flood victims," Yesmin said softly.

"They have, but it's still not enough to rebuild the Ethan Dam." Lolita leaned forward. "Can you open your chequebook again?"

Yesmin slid uncomfortably. "I wish I could, but I've already committed to helping Osa Milton with the food crisis in his country."

"Osa is a bastard! He destroyed Ethan's Dam." Lolita shrieked.

"What?" Yesmin's dark eyes widened in shock, her teacup rattling against its saucer. "But the news reports said it was a natural disaster from too much rain—"

"You have been misinformed! Technate reporters have their facts all wrong! The weather was perfect that day." Lolita emptied her glass in one gulp, red wine smudging her sparkly pink lipstick.

"Refill. Now."

Lolita's words were sharp as a blade, as she thrust the empty glass towards Kacy's trembling fingers.

Feeling the sticky residue on the rim, Kacy left the suffocating room, tired of endless trips down the marble hallway to fix Lolita another cocktail while secrets spilled like wine.
