Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Kidnapping

The air in the Longyun court was thick with tension. The envoy of the Northern Kingdom, humiliated by the Emperor's rejection, returned not with diplomacy but with veiled threats. Border skirmishes broke out, and reports of Northern troops massing near Longyun's frontier spread like wildfire.

The ministers begged for immediate war preparations. The generals clamored to lead armies north. But Emperor Long Renzhou raised his hand, silencing them all.

"War will come only if I decree it," he said firmly, his voice echoing through the grand hall. "Longyun does not bow to threats, nor do we spill blood needlessly."

His words carried the weight of steel and the wisdom of restraint. He ordered his forces to hold position, neither advancing nor retreating, while he personally summoned the Northern commanders for parley.

On the border plains, under banners snapping in the cold wind, Renzhou faced the Northern generals. His armor gleamed beneath the gray sky, his presence alone commanding silence.

"If your king desires war," he said, his voice like thunder, "then let him know this—I will answer it. But if he values peace, then he will recall his troops at once. Longyun will not bend, but neither will we waste lives for pride."

The generals, shaken by his resolve, hesitated. After tense hours of negotiation, the Northern forces began to withdraw, unwilling to test the strength of Longyun's emperor. A war had been averted—for now.

But while the Emperor's eyes were fixed on the borders, danger crept into his very palace.

In the stillness of night, Yuexin sat in her chamber, waiting for his return. Suddenly, shadows slipped through the window, their movements silent and deadly. Before she could cry out, a hand covered her mouth, and cold steel pressed against her neck.

"Forgive us, Princess," one of the masked assassins hissed. "But your journey ends here."

Her struggles were in vain. Within moments, Yuexin was bound and dragged into the darkness, her presence erased from the palace as though she had never been there.

When Emperor Renzhou returned victorious from the border, the palace was in chaos. His steps quickened as he saw the fear in his servants' eyes.

"What happened?" His voice cut like a blade.

The head guard knelt, trembling. "Your Majesty… Lady Yuexin… she has been taken."

The Dragon Throne room fell silent. The Emperor's gaze darkened, his fury so sharp that even seasoned generals dared not breathe.

"Find her," he commanded, his voice low but trembling with wrath. "No matter where she has been taken, no matter who dares hide her—I will bring her back."

The storm of war had passed, but another had begun—one born of love and vengeance.
