Chapter 510: Pokémon Evolution
Land of Rain.
Near the Shinobi Sect base.
Today was the second day of the unrestricted lecture.
Not a single shinobi who attended the first day chose to leave. Every one of them stayed.
From the lowest wandering rogue shinobi to famous figures like Kitsuchi and Pakura, they all made the same decision.
The reason was simple. The second day's content was far too tempting, because it included Yin Release and Yang Release chakra nature transformation.
Yin and Yang chakra nature transformation was different from the five elemental transformations. Yin and Yang were more special. Most secret ninjutsu in the shinobi world were tied to Yin Release or Yang Release, and that alone proved how unique they were.
Mugetsu's Yin and Yang proficiency was not as high as his other attributes. His Yang Release had only just crossed the four thousand mark at the master level, while Yin Release was a little lower, around three thousand at the same level.
But that was only "low" compared to himself.
In reality, based on the shinobi Mugetsu had appraised, his Yin and Yang chakra nature transformation had already surpassed most of the shinobi world.
Even Ino Shika Cho, who specialized in family secret techniques, did not currently have higher Yin and Yang nature transformation proficiency than Mugetsu.
With Mugetsu's level, the boost from teaching, and no high level Yin or Yang masters present, it was more than enough to deliver a class that satisfied everyone.
"Yesterday, we talked about how Wind Release makes our chakra sharp like a blade," Mugetsu began calmly. "So the direction to improve Wind Release is actually very simple. Keep making your chakra thinner. A thinner blade is sharper because the force is concentrated at a single point, which creates greater pressure on whatever you cut."
Even though he knew everyone was impatient for Yin and Yang, Mugetsu still followed the plan and taught Wind Release first. Wind Release users were rare, but they were still people.
He demonstrated as he spoke.
First, he shredded paper.
Then he sliced wood.
Then he split stone.
Finally, he used Wind Release chakra to cut through a solid iron block.
In front of Mugetsu's Wind Release, it seemed there was nothing that could not be cut.
Compared to Yin and Yang, Mugetsu's Wind Release proficiency was far higher, already close to nine thousand at the master level.
The few Wind Release users in the crowd listened with absolute focus.
Wind Release shinobi were rare, and powerful Wind Release shinobi were even rarer. Having the chance to hear someone like Mugetsu lecture was extremely difficult.
This was true even for Sunagakure, the village with the most Wind Release users.
A Sunagakure genin wanted to ask his jonin teacher how strong Mugetsu's Wind Release really was, but when he saw his teacher quietly taking notes, he swallowed his words and pulled out his own notebook as well.
After a little over an hour, Mugetsu concluded his Wind Release explanation and finally moved on to what everyone had been waiting for.
"Creating form from nothing is Yin," Mugetsu said. "Giving life to form is Yang."
Those two sentences made the essence and expression of Yin Release and Yang Release instantly clear to the crowd.
"Because of that, most secret techniques related to the mind and spirit fall under Yin Release, while secret techniques related to the body fall under Yang Release."
Of course, that alone would never be enough for an S rank course.
Mugetsu continued, using his understanding to describe a wide range of Yin Release secret techniques, from controlling shadows, to creating illusions, to linking minds.
Back when he earned the A rank evaluation reward for an intermediate lecture, he had obtained many secret techniques. He had also deliberately studied and refined them then, building a solid grasp of this field.
"He really masters seven chakra attributes…" Hanzo was shaken to the core. "Does he have some technique that keeps him looking young?"
Mugetsu's detailed explanations were too grounded and too precise. This was not empty theory. It sounded like he had truly studied Yin Release and Yang Release deeply, and possibly mastered many related techniques.
Hanzo could not help doubting the most basic thing about him.
Maybe Mugetsu had some special secret technique that maintained his appearance. Maybe he was not as young as he looked, and might even be close to Hanzo's age.
Even Hiruzen, the Third Hokage, who was famously known as the Professor of Ninjutsu, was not this exaggerated. Hiruzen only mastered techniques across the five elemental natures.
Hiruzen was already an absurdly rare genius in the shinobi world. Even if Mugetsu surpassed him, it should not be this outrageous.
If even Hanzo felt this shocked, the rest of the crowd had no chance of staying calm.
During lunch break, shinobi began writing letters, urging friends to come listen if they had any free time. If they missed this, they might never get another chance.
When the afternoon session ended, the rewards settled once again.
[System: Completed a high level lecture.] [System: Evaluation: S.] [System: Reward: Chakra Nature Transformation Insight, Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation +60, Yang Release Chakra Nature Transformation +55, Wind Release...]
Along with the text, waves of insight surged into Mugetsu's mind.
It was not limited to single nature transformations either. He also gained new understanding of fusion nature transformations like Wood Release and Ice Release.
Mugetsu checked the proficiency of his chakra nature transformations.
[Fire Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Perfect Level: 621 / 80000), Water Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Master Level: 10600 / 15000), Wind Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Master Level: 8960), Lightning Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Master Level: 7000), Earth Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Master Level: 6400), Yang Release...]
After reaching the perfect level, proficiency rose painfully slowly. Even though Mugetsu had possessed perfect level Fire Release for quite some time, the number still looked unimpressive.
Mugetsu seriously suspected the Sage of Six Paths might have only reached the perfect level, and nothing beyond it.
Even with the system, advancement was still this difficult. The difficulty was outrageous.
And Mugetsu could feel how terrifying perfect level Fire Release already was.
If his other attributes also reached the perfect level, he could likely create Truth Seeking Orbs directly by hand.
Truth Seeking Orbs were already products of the Six Paths tier. Mugetsu found it hard to imagine what "above perfect" would even look like. Even during the god tier Fourth Shinobi World War, Truth Seeking Orbs were considered an overwhelming weapon.
"Tomorrow's class will be entirely about ninjutsu," Mugetsu announced. "Not ninjutsu of a specific attribute. I will break down the essence of ninjutsu and explain it."
Hanzo, who had been preparing to return to Amegakure, hesitated.
This sounded no worse than Yin and Yang. It might be even more practical for improving strength.
"I'll stay one more day," Hanzo decided. "I'll return to the village the day after. There's nothing urgent anyway."
And so, every shinobi attending the lecture chose to remain.
As Mugetsu's lectures continued spreading, even more shinobi who had not been interested before began rushing to the Land of Rain. The area around the Shinobi Sect base became even more crowded and lively.
"Sosuke, you're wasting money," Kakuzu said with deep disappointment. "You should charge tuition. Shinobi are all rich. If you charge one thousand ryo per person per day, you'd earn a million ryo a day easily."
To an ordinary shinobi, one thousand ryo was nothing. It could vanish just from restocking tools.
Kakuzu simply did not have Mugetsu's teaching ability. If it were Kakuzu running it, he would charge at least ten thousand each and rake in tens of millions per day, far faster than bounty hunting.
"And if we provide food and lodging, we can raise the price even higher. That's all money!" Kakuzu looked like he could already see stacks of adorable banknotes turning into smoke right in front of him.
Mugetsu only smiled faintly and said nothing.
Shinobi might be rich, but the moment a threshold existed, it would block an entire group of people. For Mugetsu, who wanted lecture rewards, that threshold would be an obstacle.
"Leader Kakuzu, even if we didn't earn money, Teacher Sosuke's lecture earned the Shinobi Sect immense prestige," Nagato said seriously. "Pakura, the hero of Sunagakure, respects Teacher Sosuke. I even saw a Sunagakure jonin taking notes diligently in class."
"These are hidden assets for the Shinobi Sect. When we head east, we'll face far less resistance," Nagato concluded.
He believed Mugetsu never acted without meaning. And after thinking carefully, Nagato felt Mugetsu was laying foundations for something bigger.
"I understand the logic," Kakuzu sighed, "but do you know we're running out of money?"
Even though the Shinobi Sect's current status was equivalent to another Amegakure, the daimyo was not stupid. He would not pay twice. So the Shinobi Sect had official status, but no financial support from the Land of Rain's daimyo.
They were not wealthy to begin with. Over the past two months, they had been conducting full time special training, draining what little they had. Kakuzu had even covered part of the cost from his own pocket.
Nagato was momentarily at a loss. He had never managed money and rarely considered it.
But he understood the seriousness immediately.
Nagato had once lived as a wanderer. That life taught him exactly how important money was.
"I can hold on for a while with my savings," Kakuzu continued bluntly, "but going east will bring all kinds of expenses. For a shinobi organization that claims its goal is world peace, this financial state is unhealthy."
He did not mind spending money himself, but for the Shinobi Sect's long term development, this situation could easily create problems.
"Earning money is so hard," Yahiko muttered.
He almost suggested taking missions, but he rejected the idea instantly.
Missions were the mainstream way shinobi earned money, but the Shinobi Sect was going east to handle its own affairs. At most, only part of their forces could accept commissions. And as a new power, it would be difficult to secure high paying, high quality missions.
Yahiko had once led an organization. He knew exactly how hard it was. His old Akatsuki barely earned enough to survive day to day, and if the members were not working out of belief, it would have collapsed long ago.
"As for money, I can subsidize some personally," Mugetsu said after thinking.
He had completed many high level missions for Konoha, and he rarely spent much, so he had savings.
"And I have an idea that can make money while benefiting the Land of Rain's development."
Kakuzu's eyes sharpened with interest.
Mugetsu had always been practical and never boasted. If he spoke like this, it meant he had something real.
"I'll use my ninjutsu as prizes and hold a competition for young shinobi," Mugetsu said. "The top three will receive ninjutsu rewards, and first place will receive Fire Dragon Dance."
"Then we collect entry fees, ticket fees, and rent from merchants who set up nearby," Mugetsu continued, looking at Kakuzu. "Do you think we can make money?"
Kakuzu followed the chain of thought, and the more he calculated, the more it made sense.
It would earn money, and it would also showcase the Shinobi Sect's strength to the outside world, which could attract higher quality commissions.
And because it was a youth competition, the grand prize was essentially guaranteed to remain with them.
They had Nagato.
Kakuzu did not believe any village had a younger shinobi stronger than Nagato.
"You didn't think of this earlier?" Kakuzu could not help asking.
The more he considered it, the more he felt Mugetsu's actions connected perfectly. The unrestricted lecture expanded prestige, and that prestige would make a competition far more attractive.
Mugetsu only smiled and remained silent.
He had memories from another world. Most were useless here, but some ideas could be borrowed.
It was just that the shinobi world's communication technology was not developed enough yet. Otherwise, Mugetsu could even sell broadcast rights.
"At that point, we can also price seats differently based on quality," Kakuzu said, already thinking like a merchant. "Daimyo and nobles like sitting in the front row, close to the action. Sell those seats for more."
Kakuzu did not need to imagine how big the event would be. It would shake the entire shinobi world.
Countless people would participate.
After all, yesterday, thousands of shinobi personally witnessed Mugetsu instantly defeat Pakura with Fire Dragon Dance.
Kakuzu put himself in their shoes.
If he were not part of the Shinobi Sect, but still a bounty hunter, he would disguise himself as a youth and join.
Even if he could not use that Fire Release, he could sell the prize for an astronomical price once he obtained it.
…
Even though Charmander was quite satisfied with his body, Obito still dragged him out to exercise and lose the belly fat.
And Obito discovered a perfect training method.
He hypnotized Charmander with his Sharingan.
Whenever Charmander was about to finish the day's training, Obito would activate his Three Tomoe Sharingan and place Charmander under a subtle illusion, making him believe he still had one third of his training left.
That way, Charmander felt like he was doing the same workload as always, but he was actually training more.
A win win.
Of course, no matter how strong the illusion was, the body still felt exhaustion.
Charmander began feeling unbelievably tired every day. He even started to suspect he was getting weaker.
"Charmander, Charmander," he complained to the translator with a miserable expression.
He did not know whether it was because he was fat or because he had been eating too well, but he felt exhausted all the time.
"You've been training for so long, of course you're tired. You'll get used to it," Zorua comforted him.
"Charmander?" Fire Dragon stared at Zorua, confused. His training time was the same as before.
"How could it be the same?" Zorua grumbled. "It feels like you're catching up to Riolu."
"You should rest more. If you get this diligent, Shisui might start thinking I'm lazy," Zorua said, clearly unhappy.
Zorua wanted Charmander to go back to how he used to be.
Charmander's eyes widened as a bolt of realization ran through him.
This was not right.
He immediately dragged Zorua to confront Obito and demand an explanation.
"It's Zorua," Obito said quickly, trying to shift the blame. "You must be mistaken. It's always been this training amount."
"Is that so?" Zorua narrowed his eyes. "Then I'll go ask Rockruff."
Zorua was already preparing to find Rockruff, who was always at odds with Obito, and use him as a witness.
Fine sweat appeared on Obito's forehead.
If this escalated, he did not know how Rin would look at him.
Even if he was doing it for Charmander's good, using hypnosis to force extra training was indeed a little inhumane.
Obito had only planned to return to normal training after Charmander lost weight.
"All right, all right," Obito said, deciding to end it quickly. "To help you lose weight, I hypnotized you with my Sharingan. Your training volume recently has been one third more than usual."
He revealed everything, hoping Charmander would understand his painful effort.
Zorua stared at Obito in shock, then slowly shifted into admiration.
Compared to Obito, his own pranks suddenly felt childish.
Charmander's pupils contracted. He looked at Obito as if he had just discovered a monster.
So there really was someone this evil in the world.
Anger surged straight into Charmander's head. Humiliation, unwillingness, and rage collided, stimulating something deep inside his body.
"Awooo!"
Charmander roared, and a white light even more dazzling than the moment he hatched burst from his body.
The sudden, fierce brilliance drew attention across the entire South Border Forest.
Every disciple turned toward Obito's direction.
"Haven't all the ninbeast eggs already hatched?" Kakashi frowned, confused. "Why is there still white light?"
A new disciple had joined, but Kakashi did not remember Mugetsu giving Yamato a ninbeast egg. Yamato had not taken one out either.
"Obito, what's going on?" Rin walked up beside him, curiosity clear in her voice.
"Ah, haha…" Obito laughed awkwardly, his mind racing for a way out.
He was completely confused too. It could not be that Charmander was so angry he turned back into an egg.
"What is that?" Yamato scratched his head, not understanding the situation at all.
He had arrived too late and never witnessed the Pokémon egg hatching scene.
Before Obito could think of an excuse, every disciple in the South Border Forest gathered around him, staring at the blinding white light.
