Chapter 244 - The Burrow

The Burrow

After listening to the endless scolding the Weasley twins earned for themselves regardless of the fact there were guests inside the car, while it calmly rolled down the road as though Mr. Weasley had long since grown accustomed to it, he even continued chatting with Adrien, having once again forgotten the earlier fear after learning who he was, while enthusiastically explaining his car's features all over again.

And then he proved it:

"And this is the mode I was telling you about earlier," Mr. Weasley said before pulling a lever beside the steering wheel.

Immediately, the car that had been gliding smoothly along the road, making little hops as it moved, suddenly stopped bouncing altogether, as though it were lifting into the air.

Or more precisely.

That was exactly what it was doing.

"ARTHUR!" Molly suddenly shouted. "Remember that Muggles aren't supposed to see us or you'll get in trouble at work!" she yelled.

Making Mr. Weasley jump slightly before apologizing and pulling another lever.

The one that caused the flying car to slowly become invisible while soaring through the sky.

But it seemed that being so high up reassured Mrs. Weasley quite a bit, because she stopped scolding the twins and returned to chatting with Sally as though nothing had happened.

Only saying things like:

"Boys, you know? They're always a headache. And when there's more than one of them..." she said with a sigh.

Sally was about to say that Harry and Percy were usually well behaved.

But she paused for a moment, thought back to last summer, and nodded in complete agreement.

Fortunately, those two were distracted in the back seats talking with the other Weasleys and didn't notice.

"Sorry, Harry. We couldn't come for your birthday. You never answered any of our letters. We only heard about you when Dad ran into Sirius Black at the Ministry. He said you'd gone to some camp in America and couldn't stay in contact for a while," Ron said immediately, genuinely happy to see Harry and Percy again.

"At the Ministry?" Harry asked.

"Yeah. My dad works there," Ron explained.

But his gaze briefly landed on Percy and he couldn't help staring.

Because right now Percy was completely pale, gripping the seats of the car for dear life.

While for some reason he kept muttering:

"Dear Uncle, if you can hear me, I would like it officially noted that I never asked for this. The car started flying entirely on its own. Technically I'm a victim. A victim of magical kidnapping, which means I'm technically not flying. Yes. I'm levitating."

"What's wrong with him?" Ron asked while looking at the strange Percy.

Harry glanced at his brother, silently praying Zeus wouldn't strike them down for traveling through the sky, technically the territory of that god.

Though this part of the world supposedly wasn't watched quite as closely by the gods.

So maybe Zeus hadn't even noticed Percy riding around in a flying car.

"He's... just being Percy," Harry said, unable to come up with any better explanation.

Meanwhile, for some reason, the twins had become interested in Tyson and were talking to him in secret almost immediately, as though they had known him all their lives.

Though if you paid a little closer attention, it was really just the Weasley twins using the innocent person detector they had apparently been born with.

And right now, Tyson seemed to be setting it off at maximum sensitivity.

Perfect material for a great prank.

But seeing the happy smile on the new boy's face, so innocent and friendly, even they seemed unable to go through with their more sinister ideas.

And simply continued talking to him about magical gadgets and the fact that Tyson would be joining Hogwarts this year.

Every now and then, Arthur Weasley's conversation from the front seats drifted back to them, speaking about his job at the Ministry as Head of the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office.

Basically, he dealt with Muggle objects modified by magic that could cause trouble in the Muggle world.

"What a coincidence. Our work... is pretty similar," Adrien said.

Without offering any further explanation.

But it was true that Mr. Weasley's job had quite a lot in common with Adrien's work and that of the Knights of the Veil, who were responsible for collecting magical, cursed, and now apparently even mythological objects that posed a danger to the world in general.

...

After a rather exciting journey, especially for Percy, who refused to open his eyes until he felt the car descending, they finally arrived at the Weasley house.

"We're here," Mr. Weasley announced with a broad smile as, with a slight jolt, the car touched down on the ground.

Parking the car inside a run down garage beside a small paddock.

And Percy, who finally opened his eyes after spending the entire trip bothering Uncle Zeus not to blast his butt with lightning, though Zeus probably hadn't even heard him or paid attention to this side of the world, finally got his first look at the Weasley house alongside Harry.

It looked as though it had once been a large stone pigsty. But over the years, rooms had been added here and there, and now the house rose several stories high and leaned at such strange angles that it seemed to be standing upright through magic alone.

And that was probably exactly the case.

"Awesome," Tyson said while staring with interest at that architectural abomination.

"Welcome to the Burrow," Mr. Weasley announced as he stepped out of the car and looked at his house with pride and the kind of peace that seemed possible only in your own home.

"It's wonderful," Sally said with a friendly smile toward Molly.

Who, upon hearing words that sounded completely sincere, gave her an even warmer smile in return.

"Come on, come in. I left a delicious stew simmering on the stove. It should be ready any minute now," Molly said while happily urging everyone inside.

"Go on. Molly's a wonderful cook. She spent all morning plucking feathers," Arthur said with a loving smile toward his wife.

Once again, Mr. Weasley became animated and returned to chatting with Adrien after learning that their jobs were somewhat similar, though he had no idea to what extent.

And he began showing him all of his treasured enchanted Muggle objects, which were technically supposed to be illegal.

Yet the man standing in front of him was enthusiastically handing over evidence of his own crimes with all the excitement of a child.

To someone who was also, in a way, a guardian of the law against wizards using dangerous artifacts around Muggles.

Without realizing that his name was probably now moving toward the top of a rather large list maintained by the Knights of the Veil of dangerous wizards who required monitoring.

But of course.

Only if he ever used those objects to endanger non magical people.

For now, Adrien seemed genuinely fascinated by the ways a magical person used such simple non magical objects through sheer imagination.

Wondering whether there might be some way to work with this man.

Or slowly recruit him into their ranks and gain an infiltrator inside the Ministry of Magic.

Which was actually quite difficult for anyone to infiltrate.

Because they had very few wizards in their Order, and all of them worked within the Veil.

Meanwhile, Sally went to help Molly finish preparing the meal, the two women seeming to get along quite well.

Percy, Harry, Tyson, Ron, Fred, and George went out to de-gnome the garden until the evening meal.

Whatever de-gnoming means.
