(Elira POV)
The scene in front of my eyes was so ethereal that if you had been standing in my place, you probably would have fainted on the spot.
I mean seriously—people faint for far less dramatic things. A little blood, a horror movie, an exam result. Compared to those, this scene was basically a full cinematic apocalypse. And yes, before you ask—no, I didn't faint. I'm quite proud of that little achievement.
My brain might have been running around like a confused hamster on a broken wheel, but technically I was still conscious, breathing, and standing on my own two feet. That counts as bravery in my book.
But jokes aside—yes, I know, ironic coming from me—the view in front of me was unbelievably breathtaking. The kind of sight that makes your brain go silent for a moment because it simply doesn't have the vocabulary to describe what it's seeing.
Those burning crimson streaks that had torn across the sky earlier were now crashing into the sea. One after another they descended like flaming stars, ripping through the darkness before colliding with the ocean.
Each impact sent ripples of glowing light across the water. The sea reflected those crimsons like molten glass. Waves rolled violently beneath the fiery sky, rising and falling with a force that made the shoreline tremble slightly.
Calling them normal waves would honestly be an insult; they looked closer to a small tsunami performing dramatic rehearsals.
The entire horizon burned with color. Red. Gold. Flickers of orange dancing across the water. It looked like the sky itself had decided to bleed into the sea.
For a moment I simply stood there, absorbing the impossible beauty of it all. It was so breathtaking that my brain temporarily forgot how to function properly. Which, to be fair, isn't exactly a rare condition for me. Still, this was a special level of brain malfunction.
And that's when something happened.
I was so busy soaking in the view that in the blink of an eye something suddenly appeared right in front of me. Not something far away. Not something slowly approaching. No. It was simply… there.
My breath literally got stuck in my throat. One second I was breathing normally, and the next it felt like someone had hit the pause button on my lungs.
A massive golden eye was staring directly into mine.
And when I say massive, I mean massive. Not slightly big. Not weirdly large. I mean a gigantic golden eye that looked like it belonged to a creature that probably considered cows a light snack.
For a moment—maybe seconds, maybe minutes, maybe the universe just paused time for dramatic effect—I couldn't move. We just stared at each other. Completely still. If someone had walked by right then, they would have thought we were having some kind of intense staring competition. And knowing my stubborn personality, I probably would have refused to lose.
His golden eye was intense, glowing faintly like molten metal under the crimson sky. The pupil narrowed slightly as if examining me, studying me the way scientists study weird insects under microscopes.
But like the stubborn idiot that I am, I didn't look away. In fact, I narrowed my eyes and stared back even harder. If this was a staring competition, then damn it, I was going to win.
Seconds stretched awkwardly between us. The wind whispered around the cliffs. The ocean roared behind him. And still we stood there, locked in the dumbest silent battle ever created.
Then suddenly a voice interrupted the moment.
"How much longer is this staring competition going to continue?" the voice said.
It was feminine, slightly annoyed, and dripping with sass strong enough to season an entire restaurant.
"We actually have many things to do tonight," the voice added, sounding like someone who had zero patience for nonsense.
The voice broke the strange trance instantly. My attention snapped away from the golden eye as my brain finally started processing the rest of the creature standing in front of me.
And that's when realization hit me like a truck.
The massive shape. The scales. The wings. The long neck. The claws. The glowing golden eye.
My brain slowly assembled all the pieces together like a puzzle it really didn't want to solve.
The final answer arrived a second later.
A dragon.
There was a fucking dragon standing in front of me.
A giant green dragon, to be specific. A very real, very alive dragon that apparently existed outside fantasy novels and movie screens.
Now listen. Dragons are perfectly acceptable creatures in stories, games, and late-night imagination sessions. They are absolutely not supposed to exist on random beaches while I'm celebrating my freedom.
So naturally the first intelligent thought my brain produced was: Why the hell are you here, bro?
Yes, I mentally said that to a dragon. Don't judge me. My brain had clearly crashed and was currently restarting its system.
And before you say anything, yes—I am fully aware that by this point you have probably concluded that I am an idiot. A proud idiot. A certified idiot with at least three screws missing and the remaining ones barely hanging on. So if my reaction to a mythical creature is slightly underwhelming, please remember that my brain is currently buffering reality like slow internet.
Anyway, there I was—standing in front of a dragon after having a silent staring competition with it. Then a mysterious voice interrupted us, which meant someone else was nearby.
Slowly, very slowly, I lifted my gaze upward.
And the moment my eyes reached the dragon's back, they widened dramatically.
Because sitting there was a woman.
And holy shit—she was beautiful.
Not the everyday kind of pretty you see on social media filters. No, this was the kind of beauty that made your brain pause and ask for confirmation because it couldn't process the data correctly.
Her hair shimmered like liquid gold under the crimson light, falling around her shoulders in soft waves. Her eyes were a vivid green, sharp and bright like emeralds catching sunlight. She sat on the dragon's back with casual elegance, like riding a massive mythical beast was the most normal thing in the world.
Honestly, she looked less like a normal human and more like some goddess from ancient legends.
Then she spoke again.
"I know I'm beautiful," she said with a teasing smile, her voice dripping with playful arrogance. "But you don't have to stare that much."
The sass in her tone was undeniable. Sharp, confident, and slightly amused.
And I have to admit—beautiful with sass? I liked her already.
I cleared my throat awkwardly and narrowed my eyes slightly, trying to regain some dignity. Crossing my arms, I finally asked the most reasonable question available.
"Who the hell are you?"
Because honestly, if someone appears riding a dragon in the middle of a burning sky apocalypse, they owe me at least a proper introduction.
But the moment the question left my mouth, something else clicked inside my brain.
My eyes widened again as I processed the entire situation.
The sky was frozen in crimson fire. The sea glowed like molten glass. A dragon stood in front of me. And a mysterious goddess-like woman was sitting on its back.
Yeah… my brain was definitely running on slow mode tonight.
When my eyes widened again, both the dragon and the woman narrowed their eyes at me simultaneously. That alone was enough to make anyone slightly nervous.
I glanced around the area, then looked back at them.
After a moment of deep consideration—and by deep consideration I mean complete panic—I decided to perform the ultimate reality check.
I pinched myself. Hard.
Because clearly this had to be a dream. Maybe I was still sleeping in that dusty storage room at my aunt's house and my brain had decided to create an epic fantasy adventure to entertain itself.
Unfortunately, the moment my fingers dug into my arm, pain exploded through me.
"Ouch!" I yelped loudly.
Definitely not a dream.
The dragon and the woman looked at me with identical expressions that clearly said, This human is completely insane.
Honestly, I couldn't even blame them. From their perspective I probably looked like a confused raccoon trying to understand advanced mathematics.
I swallowed nervously, feeling a lump in my throat. Then I forced out an awkward laugh that sounded about as convincing as a broken engine.
"Ha… ha… ha…"
Clapping my hands together nervously, I took a small step backward. Then another. Then one more.
Because suddenly my survival instincts finally woke up. And they were screaming very loudly inside my head.
Run.
So I did exactly that.
I turned around and sprinted away like my life depended on it.
And honestly? At that moment, it probably did.
