Jamie continued walking cluelessly through the empty streets as the suspicious individuals carefully followed him, the cold chill that only night time brings filling the air, refreshing it, making it lively once more.

He crossed to the other side of the road, his sights on a two-floor building. It had five doors—surely for the five tenants that rented the apartment—with an outdoor stair that led the people who rented the upper apartments into their homes.

In a matter of seconds, Jamie climbed the stairs, got his keys out of his pocket, then opened the door. The beam of light inside the house shot out in an instant, like they'd been held captive by the closed door.

But as if the world was over with surprises, he never entered his own house. Jamie stood still, like a suspicious person not sure whether to enter or not, his hands still on the doorknob.

"I never left my lights on," he recalled .

It was a habit of his . He never wanted to waste electrical energy for nothing—like leaving the bulb or appliances on when he went out of the house.

There was no doubt about it: something was inside his house. But that raised more questions than answers. An intruder that turned on the bulbs was a weak move—like a thief announcing he was coming to steal from you. And to make matters worse, a cooking aroma came from inside his house. All in all, it didn't make any viable sense.

Unless—

It was someone he knew.

Instantly he rushed into the house, his guard on, ready for any attack that might come his way.

Until—

"Jamie!"

A brown-haired man, looking to be at the same age as Jamie, shouted invitingly. He wore a cooking attire. In his hands, a frying pan with scrambled eggs filling it nearly to its fullest. With how it all looked together, it was easy to mistake him for some kind of famous chef.

"I told you to call before you come to my house. I'll blow your head off one of these days, Kasa," Jamie whined, removing his red jacket, revealing a white shirt that was buried underneath.

"It would've mattered if you were here—which you weren't. Speaking of not being here, what happened to staying low?" Kasa shot at him, his tone lighthearted but not one that could make you forget he was serious about what he was asking.

"I am staying low. Just went to get some air and nothing else."

"I wouldn't call killing Genkis being exactly low. I had my dark clones follow you for insurance."

"You had them follow me because I allowed it. I would've killed them any second I wanted to."

"But you didn't. That's why I even bothered sending them to you in the first place," Kasa continued, pouring the scrambled eggs onto the two plates that were on the small dinner table.

Three months ago, Jamie finished his training with Castor. A milestone that marked his first mission above battle strategy: to gather all demons trapped on Earth and send them back to Astro.

So he rented a house in the crowded part of the city to form his plans in.

"You know, I wouldn't have worried about the safety of the others if the Goddess hadn't sent a whole million of those demon hunters to Earth," Jamie shot back, taking a seat on one of the kitchen chairs.

"Those Genkis really are a pain in the ass."

Kasa sat down with him, digging into their dinner as the analog clock on the wall showed 11:58 p.m. A late time for anyone to be having dinner, but what do you get when you have a person that goes off at night killing Genkis all around the city?

Kasa looked at Jamie slightly, his eyes focused on him, revealing that he wanted to say something but was stopping himself. But eventually, after a few seconds, he caved in.

"I know this might be hard for you. Trust me, it was for me too in the beginning. When Commander Stella sent me here two years ago to start a hospital that would heal the demons living like humans here, I felt overwhelmed. How our kind was treated even though they hide as humans—I just wanted to leap off and kill the humans. But then I remembered that I was here not only for me but for the hundreds of demon families on Earth." Kasa preached to him. Even though Jamie looked like he wasn't listening at all, truly beneath it all, he was recording every single word. A habit that the training had sharpened in him, bright as a blade.

"I know you already know this, but I'm just going to remind you. In no way—"

"Should the Goddess find out that I'm here," Jamie interjected as Kasa was talking, finishing the last of their conversation in unison.

He had heard that part a lot, so it was easier for him to figure out what Kasa would say next. From the Commander to the Lieutenant, a point they repeatedly drilled into his actions even though he had trained to counter if such a scenario ever occurred. But the operation had a lot of lives on the line—lives that couldn't even defend themselves—so Jamie understood a large part of it.

A swarm of silence flickered between the two, the moving sound of the clock filling the background.

"So, what's the status at the hospital?" Jamie asked Kasa, a topic that never interested him one bit, but he needed to at least show the effort that he liked his company. And besides, he was the one who created the Revival Injection(can only be used once and the one he just used was the last one), so it was only fair that he got to rub his shine on Jamie in some instances.

And from how energetic Kasa looked after hearing the inquiry, this was truly his side of the park.

"I just did a heat replacement surgery on a human the other day. Designed it to last him twenty years. But then I found out he raped and killed four children."

Jamie raised his right eyebrow in curiosity, pausing his egg-filled spoon mid-air.

"I modified the heart again and gave him one week instead—with a large surge of pain to follow him to his death." Kasa smiled brightly, like he had done something very progressive. But however you looked at it, he really did something good for the world. Because if he went to trial, years later, the filth would be out of prison faultless. This was the best way to treat scum like him.

"You get to have some fun. Lucky you."

"Don't worry, your turn will come soon or later. Just wait patiently. Speaking of time, did you see the latest?" Kasa provoked Jamie, smiling innocently, like his words weren't meant to provoke him.

"Why should I watch the news? I'm not old or anything like that."

"Trust me, you will love this."

On!

He turned on the TV that was mounted on the wall. With a few clicks, he reached a news channel—a female journalist giving the 12:00 a.m. news.

"Just on time," Kasa muttered. Jamie looked at the screen with all his attention. He had no choice anyway. With how loud the TV was, he would've heard what was being spoken about regardless.

"We go to Leonard Crimson, who spoke to the new congressman," the woman muttered in a charming way only journalists know how.

Then—

Then the content changed l,It was no longer in a studio.

It looked like it was outside the Parliament of that nation. Tens of news trucks scattered all over, as journalists crowded the new congressman with their microphones. Beneath the screen, words—New Congressman—plastered all over with different celebratory colors.

Jamie's eyes enlarged. His heartbeat increased drastically.

Because the new congressman was actually Bray.

Looking grown up and responsible. Wearing a suit that made him look barely recognizable, along with round, fancy glasses.

(( Everything will be going crazy,,and no character is safe... ))
