The air vibrated around him… but the silence that followed his words was heavier than anything that had come before.
> "I am tired…"
>
Kim said it in a voice that no longer sounded like combat or anger… but like someone who had lost the ability to understand why they were even still standing.
The shadow behind him did not move. But this time, its voice came out calmer… and far more dangerous.
> "Tired?"
>
A short, cold laugh.
> "You have finally reached this point."
>
Kim slowly raised his head. His eyes were still drowning in tears, but something else was surfacing within him… not anger, but fear. A genuine fear… the kind of fear he had never known, even when facing death itself.
He spoke in a low voice:
"I… used to not fear death."
He paused for a moment, as if searching inside himself for a missing answer. Then he continued:
"I used to chase it… run toward it… as if it were a solace."
The shadow took a single step forward, and the heavens shook.
> "True."
> "Because you did not know what true death was."
>
Kim shuddered. The shadow continued in a deeper tone, as if the voice were emerging from inside Kim's own chest:
> "The death you were running toward… was simple."
> "An end… silence… disappearance."
> "But now…"
>
It paused for a moment, then whispered:
> "You are afraid because you are beginning to understand that you will not end so easily."
>
Kim froze.
"What… do you mean?"
The shadow smiled. But this time, it was not a smile of mockery, but an acknowledgment of the truth's brutality.
> "Because for you, death… is not an end."
> "It is just another failure."
>
Kim's breathing accelerated, as if the sentence itself had shattered something inside him. He took a step back.
"I… just want to end…"
"I want all of this to stop…"
But the shadow cut him off instantly:
> "No."
>
It drew closer, until its voice was right inside his head.
> "You do not want death."
> "You want to escape from yourself."
>
Silence. Then it continued in a lower… more menacing voice:
> "But the problem is that you… are what cannot be escaped."
>
The ground trembled beneath Kim. Behind the shadow, another shadow appeared… then another… as if reality itself was beginning to multiply.
The voice of the first shadow returned:
> "As for your mother…"
>
Kim froze instantly, as if the name alone broke all his defenses. The shadow continued:
> "Do you believe she loved you despite what became of you?"
>
Silence. Then it let out a very short laugh:
> "No."
>
It drew even closer.
> "She loved you because she thought you were her child; she did not know that when you manifested within her baby, you consumed his soul and usurped his body."
>
Kim's body shook.
"Liar…"
But the shadow did not stop. Instead, it became calmer… and crueler.
> "You are not a child who was saved from Chaos."
> "You are the Chaos that was bound inside a child."
>
His breath hitched. The shadow completed:
> "She did not change your destiny…"
> "She only delayed the moment of its realization."
>
Images began to shatter inside Kim's head… Mary… Leona… the angels… the chains… and then, the sound of a crying baby. But this time, it wasn't clear if it was him or something else inside him.
"Enough…" Kim whispered.
But the shadow drew closer still.
> "You are afraid now, aren't you?"
> "For the first time… you do not want to die."
>
Silence. Then it spoke the sentence that broke his entire interior:
> "Because you have finally understood… that you will not die alone."
>
Kim froze. His lips trembled.
"What does this mean…"
But the shadow did not answer directly. Instead, its body began to change. It shrank, taking on a clearer shape. A face… eyes… features… the exact same features as Kim. But devoid of everything. No pain. No love. No fear. Only the naked truth.
Then it said:
> "I am not something outside of you."
>
Silence.
> "I am what remained of you… when your mother tried to save you."
>
Kim trembled violently.
"No…"
"You are a lie…"
But the shadow approached him until they were face to face.
> "You call it a shadow… because you do not want to admit that it is you."
>
Then it whispered:
> "The part that your mother could not extinguish."
>
A long, heavy silence. Then the shadow began to laugh quietly.
> "And now you understand why you fear death?"
>
It paused. Then it said:
> "Because for you, death… will not set you free."
> "It will only return you to what you truly are."
>
Silence reigned. Kim fell to his knees once more. But this time, it wasn't because he was weak, but because he no longer knew what he was supposed to resist in the first place.
He slowly raised his head.
"Then… what am I?"
A moment of silence. Then the answer came:
> "The wrong question."
>
The shadow drew close and whispered:
> "The real question is: Are you still trying to be human… even though you now remember who you have always been?"
>
In that exact moment… the heavens shook once again. But this time, the darkness wasn't emerging from him, but from the entire world around him. As if the truth was beginning to leak through the cracks. As if something grander… was beginning to wake up.
And Kim… amidst all of this… for the first time, was not fighting. Nor was he running away.
He was only… looking at himself… as if he were seeing his true self for the very first time.
