Recap of Chapter 51:
Adrian returned from beyond the network after sacrificing himself, revealing that he had encountered something beyond the Seven Thrones.
The Age of Thrones had ended.
But a new threat had emerged—the mysterious First Choice, an entity with an unmeasurable threat level.
Celeste and Seraphina inherited fragments of Adrian's Law of Choice, while Adrian returned with strange new white chains unlike anything the system had ever recorded.
Then the entity spoke:
"I already chose."
And the world went silent.
1. The One Who Chose
The battlefield stopped breathing.
Even the wind disappeared.
Adrian stood beneath the fractured sky, white chains slowly circling his arms.
Celeste remained beside him.
Seraphina raised her weapon.
Neither woman knew what they were looking at.
The empty throne began to change.
Its cracked surface peeled away like layers of dead stone.
Something stepped through.
It looked human.
At first.
A tall figure wearing a simple black coat.
No armor.
No crown.
No monstrous appearance.
Its face was calm.
Almost peaceful.
That was what frightened Adrian the most.
The system immediately appeared.
[IDENTIFICATION FAILURE.]
[IDENTIFICATION FAILURE.]
[IDENTIFICATION FAILURE.]
Adrian stared at the notification.
"S.U.G.A.R."
No response.
He frowned.
"S.U.G.A.R.?"
The interface flickered.
Then, for the first time in Adrian's memory, the system sounded afraid.
[...Do not engage.]
Adrian's expression hardened.
"That's not exactly helpful."
[Correction.]
[RUN.]
Celeste looked at him.
"Your system just told you to run?"
Adrian nodded.
"Yes."
Seraphina tightened her grip.
"Then we're definitely not running."
The figure smiled.
"I was wondering when you'd say that."
2. The First Choice
The figure stepped forward.
The ground beneath its feet didn't crack.
It simply changed.
Flowers appeared.
Then disappeared.
Stone became water.
Water became glass.
Glass became darkness.
Reality itself seemed unable to decide what it should be.
Celeste whispered:
"What is that?"
Adrian watched carefully.
"I don't know."
The figure stopped.
"My name is Elys."
Seraphina's eyes narrowed.
"You're the First Choice?"
Elys smiled.
"No."
A pause.
"I am the first thing that ever made one."
The system went completely silent.
Adrian's expression changed.
"You created choice?"
"No."
Elys looked toward the ruined battlefield.
"I discovered it."
Adrian stepped forward.
"And the Thrones?"
"Prisoners."
"The Seven Thrones were prisoners?"
"Yes."
Elys looked almost disappointed.
"They were emotions given authority. Someone believed control would create peace."
Adrian's eyes narrowed.
"Who?"
Elys smiled.
"You're asking the wrong question."
"Then give me the right one."
Elys pointed toward Adrian's chest.
"Ask why your system exists."
Silence.
Adrian's chains stopped moving.
3. S.U.G.A.R.'s Secret
[SYSTEM ERROR.]
The notification appeared in front of Adrian.
Then another.
[MEMORY ACCESS DENIED.]
Then another.
[ADMINISTRATOR ACCESS DETECTED.]
Adrian stared.
"Administrator?"
Celeste looked confused.
"What does that mean?"
Adrian didn't answer.
He was staring at the system.
"S.U.G.A.R."
Nothing.
"S.U.G.A.R., answer me."
The interface appeared.
But its usual playful voice was gone.
[There are things you were not supposed to remember.]
Adrian's heart sank.
"What things?"
[Your first awakening.]
He froze.
"My first awakening?"
[Your first death.]
Celeste stepped closer.
"Adrian..."
[Your first choice.]
The world around him blurred.
Images flashed through his mind.
A white room.
Thousands of floating chains.
A younger version of himself.
A woman standing behind glass.
A system interface.
And a voice.
Not S.U.G.A.R.
Something older.
Something cold.
"Subject has failed again."
Adrian grabbed his head.
"Stop!"
The memories vanished.
He fell to one knee.
Seraphina caught him.
"What did you see?"
Adrian breathed heavily.
"I don't know."
But he knew one thing.
He had seen himself.
Not as the Bearer.
Not as the system host.
As something else.
Something that existed before all of this.
4. Elys Attacks
Elys raised one hand.
No weapon appeared.
No energy gathered.
He simply pointed at Adrian.
"Choose."
Adrian looked up.
"What?"
"Choose."
The world split.
On one side stood Celeste.
On the other stood Seraphina.
Both were surrounded by darkness.
Adrian's chains reacted violently.
[CHOICE EVENT DETECTED.]
[ONE LIFE MAY BE PRESERVED.]
[ONE LIFE WILL BE LOST.]
Celeste stared at him.
"Don't."
Seraphina shook her head.
"He's trying to manipulate you."
Elys smiled.
"Am I?"
The darkness tightened around both women.
Adrian's chains began cracking.
[SYSTEM LIMITATION: ONE TARGET.]
[SELECT.]
Adrian stared at the two women.
His mind raced.
The old Thrones had demanded obedience.
Dominion had demanded submission.
But Elys was doing something different.
He wasn't ordering Adrian.
He was giving him a choice.
That was the trap.
Adrian slowly stood.
The white chains wrapped around his arms.
Then he smiled.
Elys's expression changed.
"You understand."
Adrian nodded.
"Yes."
He looked at Celeste.
Then Seraphina.
"I don't accept your choices."
Elys became silent.
Adrian slammed both hands together.
"I choose neither."
The system screamed.
[INVALID CHOICE.]
Adrian's smile widened.
"Exactly."
5. The Third Path
The white chains exploded outward.
They didn't attack Elys.
They attacked the choice itself.
The darkness surrounding Celeste and Seraphina shattered.
Both women fell free.
Elys stepped backward for the first time.
Adrian stood between them.
"You gave me two options."
His eyes burned white.
"But freedom isn't choosing between the options someone else gives you."
The chains multiplied.
"It is creating another one."
The system interface shook violently.
[UNAUTHORIZED LAW CREATION.]
[UNAUTHORIZED LAW CREATION.]
[UNAUTHORIZED LAW CREATION.]
Elys stared at Adrian.
Then—
he laughed.
Not mockingly.
Not angrily.
Almost happily.
"Finally."
Adrian frowned.
"Finally what?"
Elys opened his arms.
"Someone understood."
The sky cracked.
A massive white symbol appeared above the battlefield.
Celeste stared upward.
"Adrian..."
The symbol wasn't a throne.
It wasn't a crown.
It wasn't a chain.
It was a door.
Elys looked toward it.
"For centuries, everyone believed the Seven Thrones were the final enemy."
His smile disappeared.
"They were only the locks."
Adrian's blood ran cold.
"And what's behind the door?"
Elys looked directly at him.
"Your beginning."
6. The Door Opens
The system suddenly activated every warning it had.
[CRITICAL ALERT.]
[ORIGIN PROTOCOL DETECTED.]
[ALL NETWORKS DISCONNECT IMMEDIATELY.]
[DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR.]
Adrian stared at the final message.
"Why?"
S.U.G.A.R. answered.
[Because if you remember who you were...]
A pause.
[...you may stop being Adrian.]
The door began opening.
Celeste grabbed Adrian's hand.
"Whatever happens, you're not facing it alone."
Seraphina stepped to his other side.
"Agreed."
Adrian looked at both women.
Then toward Elys.
Then toward the opening door.
For the first time, he wasn't afraid of what waited beyond it.
He was afraid of what he might remember.
The door opened another inch.
A voice came from the darkness.
His own voice.
But older.
Colder.
And completely unfamiliar.
"You finally came back."
Adrian's white chains turned black.
The system vanished.
The world disappeared.
And Adrian remembered one word.
A name.
Not Adrian.
Not Losty.
Something else.
Something that had been erased from every record in existence.
"Aster."
Then the door opened completely.
TO BE CONTINUED.
