A quiet gasp escaped Violet's lips.
Ever since the werewolf attack on the king, she had felt as though the entire royal family had been thrown into turmoil. But hearing Henry speak about a conversation that could threaten his family's position made her realize just how much more complicated things had become.
Her gaze drifted away from the rain and settled on him.
Henry sat with his elbow resting against his knee, his jaw supported by his palm as he stared into the distance, seemingly lost in thought.
He must have it worse than he lets on.
His father was bedridden. His younger sister had been kidnapped. His mother had been dethroned by the Old Queen, while his stepbrother had been thrown into the dungeon.
So much had fallen apart around him.
Violet's expression softened.
"I sincerely apologize about the queen," she said gently. "She ruled this kingdom with grace."
Henry's head lifted immediately.
