"Your Highness?"
Henry heard his name being called from inside the cottage and stepped through the doorway.
The warmth he had expected to find in the room disappeared almost immediately.
Anita's expression had turned cold.
There was no greeting. No word of gratitude. Not even the slightest acknowledgment that he had helped bring her daughter home, even though he was the reason she left.
Henry stood quietly, his expression tightening as he looked at her. After everything Violet had been through, he had expected Anita reaction to be of such. But a part of him had thought she would be grateful to see her daughter standing safely before her after days of uncertainty.
Instead, she looked at him as though his presence alone offended her.
"Who told you that I would thank His Highness for bringing my daughter back?" Anita asked through clenched teeth.
The words hung heavily in the room.
