The sheer might of BurningGreymon was exhilarating, a roaring inferno waiting to be unleashed. I let out a guttural roar, my voice a metallic growl that shook the desert air.
"This is more like it!" I roared.
Angewomon and LadyDevimon, witnessing my transformation, renewed their assault on Groundramon. Angewomon moved with divine grace, her Celestial Arrows striking Groundramon's armored hide with renewed force. LadyDevimon, a blur of dark energy, unleashed a relentless Darkness Wave, her shadowy bats tearing at the Earth Dragon's tough scales. The combined assault was a spectacle of light and shadow, a dynamic three-pronged attack that promised to finally break through Groundramon's defenses.
I wasted no time, charging directly at Groundramon. The Rudriya Darpaṇa cannons on my arms glowed with intense heat.
"CORONA BLASTER!"
A fiery laser erupted from my arms, striking Groundramon's tough hide. CRACKLE! The impact sent sparks flying, and the massive Digimon staggered back, a surprised grunt escaping its fangs. It was tough, but even Huanglong Ore scales had their limits against solar-level heat.
Angewomon seized the opening, a shimmering arrow of light arcing through the air.
"CELESTIAL ARROW!"
The holy projectile slammed into a weakened point on Groundramon's chest, causing a bright flash and a ripple across its armor. Groundramon recoiled, its movements less fluid. LadyDevimon followed, a cruel smile on her lips.
"DARKNESS WAVE!"
A torrent of shadowy bats poured from her elongated claw, swarming Groundramon's head and obscuring its vision. The creature thrashed blindly, trying to swat them away, but their bites stung, forcing it to roar in frustration.
The momentum of the battle had shifted. My flame-based attacks, combined with the precision of Angewomon's holy magic and the corrupting power of LadyDevimon's darkness, began to overpower Groundramon's earthen durability. This beast had been a problem, but now it was just a target.
Groundramon roared, a deep rumble that vibrated through my armored body. It slammed its massive tail into the ground with a THUD, sending a shockwave rippling across the desert floor. My flame-hardened scales absorbed the impact, the force jarring but not breaking my stance. I growled, a primal sound tearing from my throat.
"You're not getting away that easily!"
I launched forward, a fiery fist connecting with Groundramon's side.
SMASH!
The Earth Dragon reeled, a pained grunt escaping its maw. LadyDevimon, agile and merciless, circled its flank.
"POISON!"
A dark, corrosive mist erupted from her hand, clinging to Groundramon's scales. The monster flinched, its movements growing sluggish. Angewomon, a beacon of light above, rained down holy energy.
"HEAVEN'S CHARM!"
Groundramon roared again, frustrated by the relentless assault, but its fury was turning into desperation. We were pushing it, cornering it. I could feel its power starting to waver, its defenses cracking under our combined pressure. This was it. This was where we ended it.
Then, with a desperate bellow, Groundramon slammed its entire body into the desert.
CRACK!
The earth fractured beneath it, a deep, jagged fissure splitting the ground. It unleashed a blinding explosion of sand and dust, a furious geyser of grit that erupted around us. I shielded my eyes, the sudden whiteout obscuring everything.
"Hold your ground!" I roared, but my voice was lost in the swirling sand.
When the dust finally cleared, the fissure was gone. Groundramon had vanished without a trace, burrowing deep into the earth.
"Dammit!" LadyDevimon hissed, her frustration a mirror of my own.
"It escaped," Angewomon said, her voice calm but tight. "It was too tough to hold."
I clenched my armored fists. That cunning bastard. It knew when to cut its losses and run. This mission wasn't over, not by a long shot.
A sharp pang of disappointment hit me, even through BurningGreymon's raw power. The overgrown mole had burrowed away. Escaping was a valid tactical retreat, I supposed, but it was still annoying. I shifted my focus to the scientists, who were a chaotic mix of awe and terror. Jane Foster, Dr. Selvig, and Darcy Lewis stared, their mouths slightly agape. Their scientific brains were probably melting trying to reconcile giant, armored Digimon with their neatly categorized astrophysics. Thor, however, just looked utterly confused by the disappearing act.
The crimson and gold armor shimmered, dissolving into streams of data that flowed back into my Digivice. The roar in my throat became my regular voice. Gatomon and BlackGatomon shimmered too, reverting from their Ultimate forms. They appeared beside me, looking slightly ruffled but ready for the next move.
"Are you all right?" I asked, turning to Jane's group.
Jane Foster, still clutching her notebook, blinked. "Yes. We are… fine." Her voice was a little shaky, but her eyes, wide with disbelief, held a spark of scientific curiosity.
"That was… unexpected," Dr. Selvig managed, his usual academic calm rattled. He adjusted his glasses, trying to process what he had just seen.
Darcy, ever the pragmatist, blurted, "What the hell was that thing? And what was he?" She pointed at me, then at the spot where Groundramon had vanished, her voice hitting a high note of disbelief.
I decided to play it cool. I turned to Thor, who was still staring at the empty patch of sand with a bewildered expression. He looked less like a god and more like a lost puppy.
"You're Thor, aren't you?" I asked, keeping my voice casual. "Prince of Asgard, son of Odin. Kind of hard to miss, even in that… ensemble."
Thor's head snapped towards me. His eyes, which had been dull with confusion, suddenly lit up like a supernova. A wide, joyous smile spread across his face, radiating relief and pure happiness. He stood a little taller, his shoulders relaxing from their hunched, defeated posture.
"You know me?" Thor's voice boomed, filled with genuine surprise and gratitude. "You recognize me! I am Thor, son of Odin, and heir to Asgard!"
Jane, Dr. Selvig, and Darcy exchanged astonished glances.
"Wait, a prince?" Darcy's voice cracked. "He's actually a prince? I thought he was just, like, super delusional."
Thor straightened his shoulders, a hint of his former arrogance returning. "I assure you, mortal, I speak only the truth."
My thoughts about Thor's royal lineage were cut short as a convoy of black SUVs and tactical vehicles roared over the dunes, kicking up a storm of sand. The familiar SHIELD logo on the side made my stomach clench. Coulson, of course, led the charge. He was a professional, but a pain in my ass.
He approached me first, his eyes scanning the empty crater where Groundramon had vanished.
"What happened to the rogue Digimon?" Coulson's voice was calm, but I could hear the disappointment in his tone. He wanted it contained, studied, probably poked with sticks.
"It got away," I said, shrugging. "Burrowed into the ground, like a giant, armored gopher."
Coulson's frown deepened. He didn't appreciate my humor. His gaze then shifted, sweeping over Jane, Selvig, and Darcy, lingering on them like he was assessing potential assets or liabilities. Thor, standing tall and proud, seemed to register as something entirely new to his professional radar.
"Dr. Foster, Dr. Selvig, Ms. Lewis," Coulson said, his tone shifting to formal. "We need you to come with us. We have some questions about the energy signature you were tracking."
Jane looked at me, then at Thor, a worried expression on her face. Selvig just looked tired, probably already calculating the scientific implications of a giant wormhole and a literal Norse god.
"It's probably best to just cooperate for now," I muttered to Jane, trying to be subtle.
Darcy then threw her hands up. "Well, it's not like we have a choice. Our van's totally totaled!"
Coulson led Jane, Selvig, and Darcy away. Thor followed, still looking confused but less hostile.
