The scarlet Hogwarts Express hissed to a stop at the platform, white steam billowing from the engine and curling into the summer air.
Students climbed aboard in clusters, faces bright with relief. No more exams. No summer homework in this world—just pure, glorious vacation. The Muggle-born and half-blood kids especially couldn't wait to get home to TVs, video games, and all the normal stuff Hogwarts didn't allow. Magic was amazing, but studying it was exhausting as hell.
Lucien sat by the window, one arm resting on the sill, chin in his hand as he watched the chaos on the platform. A small, involuntary smile tugged at his mouth.
Another holiday.
The compartment door slid open. Ron and Harry piled in first, Hermione right behind them. Ron collapsed onto the seat like his legs had given out.
"Finally over," he groaned. "This term felt longer than it had any right to be."
Harry dropped down beside him and rubbed his shoulder. "Says the guy who slept through an entire day after the last exam."
Ron grinned, unashamed. "Recharging, mate. Recharging."
Hermione took the seat across from Lucien and opened a new book, though her eyes kept drifting to the window like she was already halfway home.
The whistle blew. Wheels clacked. The castle's outline began sliding past the glass.
The second the train pulled away from Hogwarts, a familiar voice echoed in Lucien's mind.
[Host, this system is about to upgrade and will enter dormancy for a period of time.]
[During the upgrade, no new loans will trigger. Existing repayment progress will continue to be recorded in real time.]
[PS: Enjoy your vacation (๑¯ω¯๑)]
Lucien snorted softly at the last line.
Vacation, huh?
More like the system was the one taking time off.
He had plenty to keep him busy anyway. The dormancy period was actually perfect—no sudden loan tasks popping up to distract him. He could focus.
He wondered what the upgrade would bring. New features? Better loan options? Hopefully the system would start triggering loans more often once it woke up.
That elemental magic pattern loan still nagged at him. He already had fire, water, and earth. The collection was almost complete—only wind was missing. It was annoying as hell.
Then there was the full Plague Doctor set. So far he only had the bird-beak mask, and it was damn useful for reading curses. But the system had promised extra effects once the whole outfit was together.
Lucien shook his head and shoved the thoughts aside. Nothing he could do about it now. He'd deal with everything after the upgrade.
Right now his active loans were down to two long-term ones: the Youth Apple and the Jade Record fragment. The Jade Record was almost paid off—it had been hanging over him since last summer. A few more days and Instant Language's official launch would finish it.
He'd planned to use Instant Language as the main repayment engine for that loan anyway. The concept alone was revolutionary. The demonstration at Beauxbatons had already caught the attention of alchemy masters from several countries.
But the real money was coming from two unexpected places.
First, the East Wind broom. Professional Quidditch teams were throwing serious gold at the fastest broom in the wizarding world. In their eyes, one extra second of speed could decide a match.
Second, the beauty line. The actual Beauty Spring water hadn't sold that well, but the skincare products built on its principles—face wash, sheet masks, body wash—were flying off the shelves. Hogwarts students had seen the results firsthand and wrote home raving about them. Parents heard it came from the kid who'd earned the Order of Merlin and bought in bulk.
Cho had joked once that he should open a full beauty salon. She wasn't wrong. The female market was massive.
As for Instant Language itself, the latest optimizations had it running with zero lag inside Britain and France—text, pictures, even video. International calls still had a tiny delay, but it was small enough that normal users didn't care.
Future versions would fix that. Just like phones and computers, you didn't get perfection on day one. People upgraded every time a better model dropped. The same thing would happen with Instant Language. Once users were hooked, they'd happily pay for Instant Language II, III… all the way to X.
The train picked up speed. The castle disappeared behind them.
Lucien leaned back, closed his eyes, and let the rhythmic clack of the wheels carry him toward summer.
