Chapter 37 Meetup again
Rohan was keeping watch over one of the streets while they got some rest. It had exhausted them more than all the enemies they had faced before. Something about them was way different then all the other satyr's but Rohan couldn't get a finger on it. Neither could any of the others, maybe Follin would have some answers.
"Let's move again, breaks been long enough and it's time to get to Follin" Britta stood up and stretched a bit. They had taken this time to recover from the shock and regain energy.
"We continue with the planned route?" Rohan asked to the rest, but mainly focused on Leslie.
"Yes, but I will evade major crossings to prevent anymore unwanted encounters as before. The place where the satyr's waited was one of the bigger crosspoints we could cross so I do not recommend it. It will take slightly longer but should be all within acceptable range. Let us continue and be more careful." He explained as he walked down the road.
They had left the "concrete" district and were now entering more luxurious business areas, which would become more and more extravagant as they got further.
After a while the city became very quiet, they didn't encounter anymore satyr's and the only sound they could hear was the wind moving around the buildings. The streets looked more and more desolate as many buildings were starting to show damaged signs. Doors being broken, windows cracked, trash spilled on the walkway. Even the parked cars weren't spotless anymore. Rohan had often tried to get a car to start, but the barrier prevented some part to get the car from working.
As they walked through one of the smaller streets, a heavy horn sound could be heard. Glass windows started vibrating in response as the sound disappeared after a few seconds.
Looking at Britta and the rest Rohan asked her if there were any hidden signals from Follin or others. But they never discussed this topic, it could only mean that it came from the satyr's.
"Let's enter a building quickly and wait it out" Britta spoke up as she pointed to one of the nearby open buildings. While going up the stairs to get a higher vantage point the same sound could be heard again, and again and again. Until it disappeared again and the silence sat in.
"This makes like number 9 in total right?"
"It will most likely be a call or signal from the satyr's, just like we had seen on the previous scouting when we saw many satyr's retreat back into the inner city. This might be highly similar but in a different form. It could mean many things but it would take too much time to go over every option. If you guys want I can do that?"
"No Leslie keep quiet." Britta did not want Leslie's ramblings at this point. "Listen and keep watch, if we hear anything outside we might need to run. We leave soon for the meetup point if it stays quiet."
'Seems like the best plan there is, we should wait a bit and then move quickly, it is very likely all the satyr's are going to one specific place… I hope.'
Moving up a few stories, Rohan kept watch over the street. The group was very quiet as they waited for a bit. After 20 minutes they decided that more than enough time had passed. They had seen or heard nothing and no satyr's seemed to be close.
Fiora left the building first as Rohan followed. Checking each side the coast was clear.
'Nothing here let's be quick." He whispered back. Moving carefully through the streets they tried to make as little noise as possible. With Ragnar it was a bit difficult but he did fairly well.
The odd thing was that all the background noise had disappeared as well, before the call they could hear some gunshots or loud sounds from other groups. But now it seemed to be completely gone.
"The silence is giving me chills"
"Don't chicken out bro" Ragnar teased him as Rohan shook his head in annoyance
If they followed Leslie's route it would take a couple hours until they reached the meeting spot.
Keeping a steady pace they moved on quickly, they didn't encounter any enemies for the rest of the route. They had hoped to meet up with the other teams before reaching the meeting point, but that didn't happen.
After close to 3 hours of walking through the city, the group had managed to reach the final stretch. Rohan could see the last bridge Follin's team had to take over just ahead. There were quiet a few people standing on it's edge or sitting on the ground nearby. Rohan and the rest were the last to arrive as they quickly made their way over.
Not long after they were spotted by the rest as they got closer. Rohan felt more at ease seeing Follin doing fine, it would have been bad if something happened to him. Brady and many other people were fine as well.
"Fiora you can join me, the rest can take a break." Britta said as she made her way to Follin.
Rohan had looked around and saw a very few people hurt, none of them badly as everyone seemed busy with their own tasks. Ragnar laid down and rested his eyes as Leslie started walking around to map more of the city, or even talk with some other passionate strangers. Jan sat next to Ragnar in complete silence as Rohan joined them.
A deep breath of air left him as he felt the comfortable feeling of safety in the group. There were more than enough people that watched the surroundings.
Not long after Britta found them again as she quickly got them up to par. Every group was still complete and functional. The main issue was the horn sounds that caused some big trouble. For Follin's group the bridges after the horn sound followed were completely empty. Making their work easier but gave Follin a big headache. Just like the others, no one had encountered satyr's after the horn called. Follin speculated that it was a retreat call of some sort.
"Follin wants to continue within half an hour, so get ready soon." Britta sat down next to them as Fiora walked around the area.
"There is no reason to retreat" Ragnar followed up as he opened one eye shortly to look at Britta. "Better push on with the rest than retreat alone."
