The crowd parted as Nate and his group walked past, a ripple of whispers following them.
VIP passes hung casually around their necks, security barely giving them a glance as they moved through the venue like they belonged there—because they did.
All of them were in cosplay.
Nate wore a clean, perfectly tailored Captain Marvellous outfit, confidence radiating off him like it was part of the costume.
Kunou bounced beside him as Ahim (Gokai Pink), proudly matching Nate and practically vibrating with excitement.
Hailey had gone full Madoka, complete with the soft colors and deceptively innocent look.
Fumika looked elegant and gentle as Orihime, drawing plenty of admiring looks.
And Kuroka—being Kuroka—had chosen Blair, refusing to hide her cat ears and tail, lounging into the role like it was made for her.
Honestly? It fit her too well.
Hailey glanced around, eyes sparkling.
"I'm still surprised they're holding VidCon in Japan this year."
Nate shrugged easily.
"Works out better for us."
Kunou spun in place, tail swishing.
"So! Everyone decided who they're gonna meet?"
A chorus of nods followed.
Nate stopped and pointed ahead.
"You guys check the merch booths first. I'm heading to the V-Tuber section."
They waved him off, Kunou already dragging Hailey toward a stall, while Nate turned and walked away—with Whisper and Jibanyan floating faithfully behind him.
The V-Tuber area was packed.
Bright booths, cheerful voices, fans clutching merch like sacred relics. Glamour spells were layered thick here—professional, subtle, and very well-maintained.
Nate scanned the signs until he found the first name on his list.
Inugami Korone.
He stepped up, pass flashing briefly as staff waved him through.
Behind the counter stood a perfectly normal-looking girl, smiling brightly as she greeted fans.
Nate smiled back.
"Nice to meet you."
She tilted her head.
"Hi! Nice Captain Marvellous cosplay."
Nate laughed.
"Thanks."
They shook hands.
And then—
Click.
A sharp flash of light burst from Nate's wrist.
His Yo-kai Watch activated.
"Yo-kai detected. Removing glamour spell."
The world shifted.
Nate blinked—and froze.
Light brown hair fell in braided pigtails.
Warm brown eyes widened in shock.
Dog ears twitched atop her head, and a bushy tail flicked behind her yellow jacket and white dress.
The booth went dead silent.
Korone blinked.
Everyone blinked.
She screamed.
"CODE RED!"
Chaos erupted.
A blur of motion—
A blonde girl with teal eyes and a schoolgirl outfit practically materialized beside her, red ribbons fluttering as she snapped her head toward Nate.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
Another presence slammed into the room moments later.
Pink hair. Lab coat. Test tubes rattling.
A spell circle flared beneath Nate's feet.
Before he could comment—
Reality folded.
Nate found himself unceremoniously shoved into a chair in a backstage resting room.
Whisper floated upside down.
"Uh… Nate? I believe we have upset someone."
Jibanyan looked around nervously.
"Ny-this feels bad, Nate…"
Korone paced back and forth, tail bristling.
"How did you do it?!"
"That glamour was reinforced!"
"Do you know how much trouble we're in?!"
Akai Haato gestured wildly.
"This is international-level secrecy violation stuff!"
"Oh kami oh kami oh kami—"
The door slammed open.
Hakui Koyori stormed in, panting, magic still crackling around her fingers.
"WHOEVER DID THIS IS ABOUT TO—"
She stopped.
Her eyes landed on Nate.
Her brain short-circuited.
Time slowed.
The Yo-kai Watch.
The aura.
The pressure in the room bending instinctively toward him.
Her thoughts screamed.
Oh, fuck.
That's the Yo-kai King.
Her knees nearly buckled.
Nate looked at her calmly.
"…Hi."
Silence.
Korone slowly turned.
"Koyori?"
Akai squinted.
"Why do you look like you just saw God?"
Koyori swallowed hard.
"…Because I kind of did."
She straightened, took a breath, and bowed—deep.
"Your Majesty."
The room exploded.
"HUH?!"
"YOUR WHAT?!"
Korone's ears flattened.
"WAIT WAIT WAIT—THE WHAT KING?!"
Nate rubbed his temple.
"Okay. First—relax. I didn't come here to expose anyone."
He glanced at the Watch.
"Second—this thing reacts automatically. That one's on me."
Whisper coughed.
"Ahem—His Majesty has excellent control. Usually."
Nate shot him a look.
Koyori exhaled slowly, visibly calming herself.
"…So. The rumors were true."
Akai leaned forward, eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"So you're the reason the supernatural internet's been going insane lately."
Korone stared at Nate, tail slowly wagging again.
"…So you weren't just cosplaying?"
Nate smiled faintly.
"Nope."
A beat.
Then Korone grinned.
"Heh. Cool."
And just like that—
The V-tuber arc officially began.
Nate looked at the girls. "So, I am kinda confused, can you girls explain, a bit".
One explanation later
Nate stared at them for a long moment.
"…So let me get this straight," he said slowly. "All of you are actually half-yokai."
Hakui nodded.
"Yup."
Akai crossed her arms.
"That's right."
Inugami smiled and bobbed her head.
"Mhm!"
Hakui adjusted her lab coat and continued.
"The 'V-tuber models' we use? Those are our actual yokai forms. We just project them digitally so people think it's all fictional."
Nate blinked.
"…And the human forms?"
Inugami answered easily.
"Glamour spells. Way easier than explaining horns, tails, or ears every five minutes."
Nate nodded, processing.
"Right, right… so you went through all of this effort just to—what—livestream?"
All three, perfectly deadpan:
"Bills."
Nate snorted, failing to hold it in.
"Yeah, okay. That tracks. Capitalism truly transcends realms."
Then he paused, head tilting.
"But that can't be the only reason."
Akai's smile faded just a bit. She looked away.
"There's also… stigma. Half-yokai don't exactly get treated well by pure-blood clans."
Hakui nodded quietly.
"It's safer to 'play characters' than exist openly."
Nate exhaled through his nose.
"…Ah. Racism. Classic."
Internally, he sighed.
DxD bingo card complete.
He looked back at them.
"So… are there more? Other V-tubers secretly yokai?"
Inugami nodded.
"About half of Hololive. Maybe more. Some humans use disguise magic too."
Nate paused, then smirked.
"…So does that mean Super Chats count as tribute to the Yokai King?"
Hakui answered instantly.
"…No."
Akai turned red.
"…Maybe."
Inugami burst out laughing.
"He'd totally collect it if we let him!"
Nate grinned, leaning back in his chair.
"Damn right. I'm a King, not a free content provider."
The tension broke completely, laughter filling the room.
After a moment, Nate straightened.
"Alright then. What kind of half-yokai are you?"
Inugami raised her hand first, tail wagging.
"My mom's an Okuri-inu."
Nate's eyebrows rose slightly.
"…The 'escort you home or eat you' dog spirit?"
Inugami beamed.
"Depends on the vibe!"
Akai went next.
"My dad's an Oni."
Nate nodded slowly.
"Explains… a lot."
Akai huffed.
"Hey!"
Finally, Hakui spoke.
"My mother is a Gyokuto."
Nate paused.
"…A jade rabbit from the Moon."
Hakui stiffened.
"You know what that is?"
Nate smiled faintly.
"Yeah. Alchemists. Healers. Moon-aligned mystics. Rare as hell."
Hakui's ears twitched.
"…Huh."
Nate leaned forward slightly, tone shifting—not threatening, but serious.
"Okay. Then here's the important part."
All three focused on him.
"You're under my protection now. Not because you're streamers. Not because you're funny or popular."
He met each of their eyes.
"But because you're half-yokai living quietly in a world that would chew you up if it knew the truth."
A beat.
"And anyone who decides to make that a problem?"
His aura pressed just enough to be felt.
"…Makes it my problem."
Korone's tail wagged slower, softer.
"…He's kinda cool."
Akai smiled despite herself.
"…Yeah."
Hakui adjusted her glasses, heart racing.
So this is the Yokai King…
And for the first time, she felt something unfamiliar.
Safe.
Nate looked at the girls
"…Okay," he said. "Before this turns into a supernatural census, let's do this properly. One at a time."
He looked at Hakui.
"Who's next?"
Hakui swallowed.
"…You sure?"
Nate smiled.
"I'm already here. Can't get worse."
Famous last words.
Shirakami Fubuki
The door slid open and a white-haired girl poked her head in.
"Kon-kon—"
She froze the moment her fox ears flickered into visibility.
"…Ah."
Nate looked up, took one glance, and nodded.
"Fox. Obviously."
Fubuki sighed in relief.
"Half Shirakami Kitsune. My mom's side."
Kunou, who had wandered in at some point, stared.
"…Fox."
Fubuki stared back.
"…Fox."
There was a moment of silent, instinctive kitsune communication.
Kunou smiled brightly.
"Future sister-wife?"
Fubuki.exe stopped responding.
Nate muttered.
"Why does this keep happening."
Ookami Mio
A calm, black-haired girl stepped in next, hands folded.
"I suppose there's no point hiding."
Wolf ears appeared.
Nate tilted his head.
"Wolf yokai. Guard-type."
Mio nodded.
"Ookami lineage. Shrine guardian blood."
Yasaka, watching through a mirror spell elsewhere, paused paperwork.
"…Oh, she's a good one."
Mio bowed slightly to Nate.
"Yokai King."
Nate blinked.
"…You're very polite."
Mio smiled gently.
"I've been watching you. You're… not what the old stories warned us about."
Nate:
"…I think?"
Nekomata Okayu
Someone was already sitting on the couch.
No one remembered her entering.
"…Hey."
Cat ears flicked lazily.
Nate stared.
"…You've been here the whole time."
Okayu smirked.
"Yep."
Hakui whispered.
"She's half Nekomata."
Nate nodded slowly.
"Of course you are."
Okayu leaned closer.
"So… are you the type of King who spoils cats?"
Nate didn't hesitate.
"Yes."
Okayu smiled, satisfied.
"Good."
Sakura Miko
The door slammed open.
"ELITE—!"
Pink energy burst out, forming fox ears, shrine markings, and divine static.
Nate flinched.
"—Whoa."
Miko blinked.
"…Oh. Uh. Surprise?"
Hakui whispered urgently.
"Half Divine Kitsune—shrine-bound."
Nate stared.
"…You're not even pretending to be subtle."
Miko scratched her cheek.
"Nyeh… I'm bad at secrets."
Kunou stared again.
"…Fox."
Miko stared back.
"…Fox."
Nate immediately stepped between them.
"No."
Nakiri Ayame
A giggle echoed.
A horned girl phased halfway through the wall.
"Yo~"
Nate squinted.
"…Oni."
Ayame smiled brightly.
"Half Oni! Dad's full-blood."
Nate nodded.
"Explains the chaos energy."
Ayame leaned in.
"So if I break something…?"
Nate sighed.
"I'll fix it."
Ayame clapped.
"Yaaay!"
Kiryu Coco
The room shuddered.
Heat spiked.
Something massive pressed against reality.
Nate's head snapped up.
"…Oh."
A tall woman stepped in, orange hair, sharp eyes.
"Nope," Nate said instantly. "You're not yokai."
Coco grinned.
"Good eye."
Her aura flared—draconic, ancient, overwhelming.
Hakui whispered.
"…Half Dragon."
Coco shrugged.
"Dad's a dragon. Mom's human. Long story."
Nate leaned back, impressed.
"Yeah, that checks out."
Coco crossed her arms.
"So you're the Yokai King, huh?"
Nate smirked.
"And you're the loudest dragon I've ever met."
Coco laughed.
"Damn right."
Nate's Conclusion
Nate looked around the room.
Foxes.
Cats.
Wolves.
Oni.
Moon rabbit.
Dragon.
He took a long breath.
"…So Hololive is a hidden supernatural faction."
Hakui nodded.
"Unintentionally."
Nate stared at the ceiling.
"…I need a bigger throne room."
Kunou raised her hand.
"Can we invite them to the Yokai Festival?"
Everyone froze.
Nate thought for half a second.
"…Yeah."
The room erupted.
Later Once Nate has returned to the Adam House
Fumika looked at Nate. "So, how do we bring them to the bigger Yokai Society".
Nate looked at her. "Gonna take a long time, I first need to unify the Yokai Clans like the prophecy, remove the figurehead and shadow leader of Pure blood supremacist clans, make new laws that make sure Hybrids are not mistreated or used, and then send Yokai to check if these laws are being upheld in the clans".
Nate said it so casually that it took a second for it to land.
The room went quiet.
Fumika blinked.
"…You said that like you were talking about reorganizing a club."
Hakui stared at him.
"Y-you just described overthrowing half of yokai high society."
Nate shrugged, utterly unfazed.
"Yeah. Tuesday-level problems."
Coco whistled low.
"Damn. You're not a king, you're a walking regime change."
Kurumu leaned closer to Nate, resting her chin on his shoulder.
"Removing shadow leaders sounds dangerous. You sure you'll be okay?"
Nate smiled—soft, but with something sharp underneath.
"They're already scared of me. They just don't know why yet."
Mio nodded slowly.
"That would explain the recent… panic among elder councils."
Fubuki tilted her head.
"So the prophecy thing… that's real?"
Nate nodded.
"Unify the clans. Break the old blood hierarchy. End hybrid abuse. If I don't do it, the system rots until someone way worse does."
Okayu stretched lazily.
"Mmm. Revolution with benefits."
Kunou hopped onto Nate's lap like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"And when that happens?"
Nate looked down at her, then around the room—at foxes, oni, wolves, dragons, hybrids hiding behind avatars.
"Then," he said calmly,
"I stop people from needing to hide who they are just to exist."
Akai swallowed.
"…So no more glamour spells?"
Nate smiled.
"Only if you want them."
Silence.
Then Miko sniffed loudly.
"Nyeh… that's kinda cool."
Coco laughed, sharp and approving.
"Worthy king energy."
Hakui bowed her head slightly, genuine respect in her eyes.
"…If you pull this off, you won't just change yokai society."
Nate took a sip of his drink.
"I know."
He looked at them again, expression easy—but certain.
"I'll change the world you stream in."
Whisper leaned over to Jibanyan and whispered,
"…We are definitely living in a historical era."
Jibanyan nodded.
"Nyaha… and it's gonna be wild."
Lily looked at her son. "How long, do you think your plans are gonna take?".
Nate looked at his mother. "I wish it would be done in just a few years, but it's probably gonna take a few decades, which for Yokai and their long lives means nothing"
Lily looked at him. "And with Amaterasu's blessings, you will stop aging at 25, so yeah, I think you have this son".
Nate went still.
Not shocked—just… quiet in that way that meant something heavy landed.
He set his cup down and looked at Lily properly this time.
"You tried to fix it."
Lily didn't dodge his gaze. Her voice was calm, but tired in a way only someone ancient could be.
"I did. I broke a few chains. Bent some rules. Made things less cruel."
She paused.
"But I couldn't tear the system apart without starting a civil war that would've drowned hybrids first."
Nate exhaled slowly.
"…So that's why things are the way they are. Better than before. Still rotten underneath."
Lily nodded once.
"You're standing on ground I softened. That's not an insult. That's how change survives."
For a second, Nate didn't joke. Didn't smirk.
Then he looked at her, eyes steady.
"Guess that makes me the one who finishes the job."
Lily smiled—soft, proud, a little sad.
"You always were."
She reached up and rested her hand on his head, the way she used to when he was smaller.
"You have something I didn't."
Nate raised an eyebrow.
"Plot armor?"
She snorted.
"Time. Allies. And a world already cracking."
He chuckled, then grew serious again.
"I'm not gonna rush it. I'll build laws that outlive me. Systems that don't need a 'chosen king' to stay fair."
"That's exactly why you'll succeed," Lily said quietly.
"Not because you're powerful—but because you're patient."
Nate leaned back, staring at the ceiling.
"Decades of politics, clan reform, underground cleanups, and smashing supremacist elders."
He sighed.
"…Man, I just wanted to go to VidCon."
Lily laughed—warm, genuine.
"You still can. Even revolutionaries need hobbies."
He smirked.
"Good. Because next on my list is fixing the idol industry."
She paused.
"…Please tell me you're joking."
Nate grinned.
"Only a little."
Somewhere in the deeper layers of yokai society, old powers stirred—
not in rage yet, not in fear—
but in the uneasy realization that this time,
the one pushing for change had learned from the last failure.
And he had his mother's scars as a map.
