Chapter 56 - Parent-teacher meeting 2

Kurumu crossed her arms, tail flicking. "Okay. Ignoring the fact that the school is one bad step away from collapsing into mythological chaos… Types. That's basically the vampire version of Superclass, right? UZ+ level?"

Moka nodded. "Yeah. Once a vampire reaches that state, we stop using normal ranks. They're called Types instead."

She hesitated, then continued. "Titles like Type Earth, Type Moon, Type Jupiter."

Mizore tilted her head. "Why planets?"

Moka looked away, embarrassed. "We… honestly don't know. The Original Vampires chose planets as the final classification. No one ever questioned it."

Nate stared straight ahead, face calm.

'Because the multiverse thought it would be funny,' he thought flatly.

'I really hate that I know this is Nasuverse logic.'

Hailey rubbed her temple. "So let me get this straight. Devils have Satan Class and Superclass. Yokai have Z, ZZ, UZ. Vampires just… skip all that and go planetary?"

Moka gave a small shrug. "Pretty much."

Fumika exhaled slowly. "That's not a ranking system. That's a warning label."

Kunou's ears twitched again.

"…He's moving," she said quietly.

Nate felt it too.

The pressure didn't spike.

It didn't surge.

It advanced.

Step by step.

Measured. Calm. Absolute.

Nate straightened.

"…Yeah," he said. "That's Enma."

Kurumu swallowed. "Like… that Enma?"

"The Judge of the Underworld," Nate replied. "The one who doesn't need to raise his voice because reality listens anyway."

Moka hugged herself. "Poor Emma…"

Nate nodded once. "She wanted a normal school life."

He glanced toward the hallway, eyes sharp.

"That ended the moment her father walked through the gate."

And if Enma showed up personally, Nate added silently,

then this Parent–Teacher Meeting just became a summit.

Somewhere down the corridor, footsteps echoed.

Not loud.

Not fast.

But every supernatural instinct in the building screamed the same thing:

Someone absolute was coming.

And Nate Adam, Yokai King, Fate Point, Prophecy Child—

Smiled faintly.

"…Guess I should go say hello."

Nate took a slow breath, steadying the air around him before it could spiral.

"Alright. Everyone stay calm. Nobody antagonizes the King of the Underworld."

He looked directly at Kurumu when he said that.

She raised her hands defensively. "Hey! I only antagonize people who deserve it."

"Today is not the day," Nate replied flatly.

Everyone nodded.

Even Mizore.

Nate then turned to Moka.

"And let's hope your parents don't run into Enma first."

Moka's expression shifted immediately. "That would be… bad."

Kunou tilted her head. "How bad?"

Moka answered honestly.

"My father does not bow easily."

Hailey inhaled sharply. "And Enma?"

Nate didn't hesitate.

"Doesn't bow at all."

A quiet beat passed.

Somewhere down the corridor, the temperature dropped slightly—not cold like ice, not warm like charm—just neutral. Balanced. Measured.

Judgment walking.

Then—

From the opposite wing of the building, a different pressure flared.

Elegant. Regal. Predatory.

Moka stiffened.

"…They're here."

Nate closed his eyes for half a second.

Two ancient monarch-level beings.

Same building.

Same event.

No prior scheduling.

He opened his eyes again.

"…Of course this happens today."

Kurumu clutched his sleeve. "If they meet, what happens?"

Nate answered calmly.

"Best case? Diplomatic silence."

"And worst case?" Hailey asked.

Nate looked down the hallway where the two pressures were steadily approaching the central courtyard from opposite directions.

"…We redefine what a Parent–Teacher Meeting means."

A distant classroom door slid open.

Footsteps from one side.

Measured steps from the other.

And right in the middle of it—

Stood Y Academy.

About to host a gathering that history would absolutely remember.

Nate adjusted his coat.

"Alright," he muttered. "Time to play mediator before this turns into a mythological cold war."

Meanwhile — opposite side of the gym.

Yasaka stood with composed elegance, nine tails hidden beneath her glamour but her presence unmistakable. Her golden eyes softened slightly when they found Kunou across the hall.

Beside her stood Lily and Aaron.

Lily's gaze, however, shifted elsewhere.

"Lord Enma."

Enma turned his head slightly toward her. His glamour concealed the crimson of his skin and the weight of hellfire in his eyes, presenting instead a tall, dignified man in dark formal wear.

"Lady Lily. Lady Yasaka. Lord Aaron."

Lily inclined her head gracefully. "It has been some time, Lord of the Underworld."

Enma gave a single nod in return. "Indeed… Watch Holder."

There was no hostility in the exchange.

No challenge.

Just the quiet acknowledgment of beings who understood exactly what the other represented.

Aaron crossed his arms loosely, an easy grin on his face. "So. What brings the Judge of the Underworld to a high school gymnasium?"

Enma's gaze didn't waver.

"My daughter."

Yasaka's tails flicked faintly beneath her illusion.

Aaron raised an eyebrow. "You sent her to a supernatural academy and expected no one to notice?"

Enma's expression remained calm. "I expected discretion."

Lily's lips curved faintly. "From teenagers?"

A brief pause.

"…A miscalculation," Enma admitted.

There it was — the smallest crack in divine composure.

Yasaka spoke smoothly, voice like warm sunlight over steel. "Your presence has unsettled the students."

"That was not my intention."

Aaron chuckled. "Intent doesn't always matter when you carry that kind of weight."

Enma's eyes shifted slightly.

Across the gym.

They landed on Nate.

The air did not move.

But something ancient recognized something equally immovable.

Enma studied him for a moment longer than politeness required.

"A Fix Point," he said quietly.

Lily did not react outwardly.

Aaron did not smile.

Yasaka did not blink.

But the space between them grew heavier with meaning.

Enma continued, voice even.

"He was not supposed to solidify this early."

Aaron exhaled softly through his nose. "Kids rarely follow cosmic scheduling."

A faint glint passed through Enma's eyes.

"And yet," he murmured, "the threads bend around him."

Lily's gaze softened as she looked at her son. "He bends back."

Another beat of silence.

Still no tension.

Just awareness.

Then Enma's voice lowered slightly.

"Your son stands at the center of multiple converging lines."

Aaron shrugged lightly. "Yeah. We noticed."

Yasaka's golden eyes gleamed. "He protects his own."

Enma's gaze remained on Nate.

"And that," he said calmly, "is why I am here."

Not as Judge.

Not as Executioner.

But as a father ensuring that whatever storm was gathering—

Did not swallow his child first.

Across the gym floor, Nate felt the weight of that attention.

And smiled faintly.

"…Oh," he muttered under his breath.

"So that's how today's going to be."

At the students' side, the murmurs slowly died down as a teacher stepped forward.

Average height. Lean but athletic build. Black, messy medium-length hair that stubbornly covered his left eye. Hands in his pockets like he'd rather be anywhere else.

Moka's eyes widened slightly.

'Master…'

He stopped at the center of the gym floor.

"I am Koyomi Araragi," he said flatly. "And I will be presenting today's questions."

His visible eye swept across the gym.

Over the unaware human students.

Over the hidden yokai masking their auras.

Over the vampire nobility.

Over the succubi trying not to look intimidating.

His gaze paused briefly on Nate.

Then Basara.

Then Mio.

Something unreadable flickered in his expression.

"Let's begin."

The overhead screens flared to life.

---

1. Mechanics (Acceleration)

A car accelerates uniformly from rest to 16 m/s in 4 s.

Calculate its acceleration and the distance travelled.

2. Density

A metal cube has a side length of 2 m and a mass of 64 g.

Calculate its density.

3. Forces (Weight)

An object has a weight of 100 N on Earth (g = 10 N/kg).

What is its weight on the Moon (g = 1.6 N/kg)?

---

Araragi glanced around lazily.

"You have thirty minutes. Whiteboards have been provided."

Silence.

Then a collective internal scream.

Hailey clutched her head mentally.

I hate this school.

Kurumu leaned toward Nate. "We're being evaluated in front of literal monarchs… with physics?"

Mizore stared at the screen. "…This feels unfair."

Kunou squinted. "What is density?"

Moka exhaled slowly. "It's basic human science."

Basara muttered, "Why is this more stressful than combat exams?"

Nate, meanwhile, had already picked up a marker.

He stared at Question 2 for half a second.

"…64 grams?"

He tilted his head.

"That cube is two meters per side."

Moka blinked.

"…Wait."

Hailey froze.

"…That density is absurdly low."

Nate smiled faintly.

"Exactly."

Across the gym, Enma watched.

Not their power.

Not their aura.

But how they handled something simple.

Something mundane.

Because raw strength was common among supernatural elites.

But adaptability?

Control?

Humility in human systems?

That was rarer.

Araragi leaned casually against the wall, watching reactions instead of answers.

"…Let's see," he muttered quietly.

"Which monsters can still think like humans."

And in the stands—

Parents watched.

Kings watched.

Judges watched.

And Nate calmly began writing, like this was just another Tuesday.

Five minutes.

That was all it took.

The scratching of markers slowed.

Murmurs died.

And then—

Two hands went up at the same time.

"I have the answers to all three."

The entire gym paused.

Araragi's visible eye shifted lazily toward the voices.

Nate blinked… then slowly turned his head.

Because the voice next to him sounded way too cheerful for someone casually flexing under monarch-level pressure.

Blonde hair.

Bright smile.

Suspiciously smug energy.

"…Senpai?" Nate muttered.

Umaru grinned at him.

"Yes?"

Nate stared.

"I didn't know you were good at physics."

Umaru Doma tilted her head innocently.

"What? Just because I'm cute doesn't mean I'm stupid."

Kurumu leaned over and whispered, "She looks harmless."

Mizore deadpanned, "That's usually when they're dangerous."

Hailey squinted at the board. "Five minutes? For all three?"

Araragi straightened slightly.

"Oh?" he said flatly. "Well. Since we have volunteers."

His eye shifted between Nate and Umaru.

"Come up."

A ripple moved through the student section.

Up in the stands, supernatural parents watched with renewed interest.

Enma's gaze sharpened slightly.

Yasaka's ears twitched beneath her illusion.

Lily folded her hands calmly.

Nate stood, rolling his shoulders once.

"Race you?" Umaru whispered as she walked beside him.

He glanced at her sideways.

"…You're enjoying this way too much."

She beamed.

"Absolutely."

They reached the front.

Two whiteboards.

Two markers.

Araragi gestured lazily. "Write your solutions. Show your work."

The gym fell completely silent.

No aura flares.

No intimidation.

Just the soft sound of marker on board.

Acceleration.

Density.

Weight conversion.

Five minutes later—

They both stepped back at the same time.

Araragi walked forward, hands in pockets.

He scanned Nate's board.

Then Umaru's.

Then back again.

A pause.

"…Correct," he said.

A collective gasp filled the gym.

Kurumu pumped her fist. "That's my—"

She stopped herself.

"—teammate!"

Hailey stared at Nate. "You finished that in five minutes under divine observation."

Nate shrugged lightly. "It was basic."

Umaru leaned toward him with a smug whisper.

"You almost forgot to convert grams to kilograms."

Nate's eye twitched.

"…I did not."

She just smiled.

Up in the stands—

Enma observed Nate carefully.

Not because he solved physics quickly.

But because he didn't show off.

Didn't rush.

Didn't posture.

Just answered.

Efficient.

Controlled.

Balanced.

Interesting.

Araragi turned back to the crowd.

"Well," he said casually, "looks like we have at least two students who can survive human education."

Then his eye flicked toward Nate again.

"…Let's see how you handle the next round."

The screens flickered.

And this time—

The questions were going to hurt.

The screens flickered.

Physics vanished.

New header.

BIOLOGY.

A collective groan rolled through the students.

Even Nate's expression shifted slightly.

"Oh come on," he muttered.

Umaru squinted at the first question. "…Okay, this one's actually annoying."

Diagrams appeared. Cellular processes. Genetic inheritance probabilities. Comparative supernatural physiology disguised as "advanced human biology."

This wasn't plug-and-solve anymore.

This required thinking.

Ten minutes passed.

Markers scratched slower this time.

Then—

"I have the answer."

Two different voices.

The gym stilled again.

Nate looked up.

It wasn't him.

It wasn't Umaru.

One voice came from the right side of the student section.

Emma.

She stood calmly now, posture straight. No panic. No hesitation.

The other voice came from near the front rows.

A tall boy stepped forward.

Black hair, slightly wavy. Green eyes. Student council armband visible against his uniform.

The gym murmured.

"President…"

"Second year…"

"Since when is he this serious?"

Ranto Kirigakure.

Y Academy's Student Council President.

He walked forward without arrogance. Without nerves.

Just composure.

Nate's eyes narrowed slightly.

Not at his posture.

Not at his aura.

But at his wrist.

There.

Subtle.

Half-hidden beneath his sleeve.

A device.

Round.

Mechanical.

And humming faintly with spiritual resonance.

Nate's eyes widened just a fraction.

'That looks like…'

Hailey leaned toward him. "You see that too, right?"

Fumika nodded slowly. "That's not a normal charm."

Nate's thoughts sharpened.

A Yokai Watch?

But not the toy version.

This one carried layered seals.

Detection matrices.

Binding glyphs.

It wasn't for summoning.

It was for monitoring.

Ranto reached the board at the same time Emma did.

Araragi observed them both.

"Proceed."

Markers moved.

Emma wrote clean, precise answers. Her handwriting neat. Her reasoning structured.

Ranto wrote differently.

He diagrammed.

He cross-referenced.

He annotated.

Not just answering—

Understanding.

When they stepped back—

Araragi scanned both boards.

Pause.

Then—

"…Correct."

Again.

A ripple spread across the gym.

Umaru crossed her arms. "Now this is getting interesting."

Nate didn't answer.

His gaze remained fixed on Ranto's wrist.

Because that device reacted slightly—

When Emma moved.

A faint pulse.

As if it registered her.

As if it categorized her.

Emma noticed.

Her golden eyes flickered.

Just for a second.

And Ranto noticed her noticing.

Their eyes met.

No hostility.

No challenge.

Just awareness.

Up in the stands—

Enma's gaze shifted.

Not to Nate.

Not to the vampires.

But to Ranto Kirigakure.

Yasaka's ears twitched faintly.

Aaron muttered under his breath, "That kid's not normal."

Lily nodded slightly. "No."

Down below, Nate exhaled slowly.

"…Student Council President, huh."

Hailey glanced at him. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"

Nate's voice lowered.

"That watch isn't decorative."

Fumika whispered, "Then what is it?"

Nate didn't take his eyes off Ranto.

"It's tracking something."

The screens flickered again.

Next category loading.

And the atmosphere shifted.

Because now—

This wasn't just a ranking.

It was becoming a silent chess match.

And Nate had just realized—

There was another player on the board.
