Chapter 64 - Chapter 64 – After the Storm

The battlefield still reeked of smoke and blood. Broken stone fragments of the Titan-Beast lay scattered across the valley floor, each piece radiating faint traces of corrupted energy that slowly dissolved into mist.

The night sky was quiet now, as if even the stars held their breath.

Rihan lay on his back, staring upward. His chest heaved painfully, every breath scraping against his ribs like knives. The echo of Soul Resonance still lingered inside him, a fragile thread pulling at his heart with every beat.

Elira hovered beside him, her staff glowing faintly as she pushed healing magic into his wounds. Sweat dripped down her temples. Her voice trembled, but her hands remained steady.

"You're burning yourself out," she whispered. "If you keep forcing resonance like that, your soul—your very life—will shatter."

Rihan shut his eyes. "I didn't have a choice."

"You always have a choice," Elira snapped, surprising even herself with the sharpness of her tone. Then softer, almost pleading: "Don't throw yourself away like that again."

Nearby, Kael sat cross-legged atop a fallen stone, sharpening his sword with deliberate strokes. The usual grin on his face had dimmed into something quieter, more thoughtful.

"That power of yours," Kael muttered, not looking up. "It's terrifying. Useful, yes… but terrifying." He paused, letting the sound of metal against whetstone fill the silence. "I've fought beside kings, warlords, and monsters. None of them scared me like what I saw tonight."

Rihan forced himself up, ignoring Elira's protests. His voice came out rough. "You scared… of me?"

Kael finally looked at him, his expression unreadable. Then he smirked, though the humor didn't quite reach his eyes. "Not scared of you. Scared of what you might become."

Mira stood apart from the others, on the ridge overlooking the ruined valley. Her sharp eyes scanned the treeline, ears twitching at every faint sound. The silver light of the moon outlined her silhouette, making her look more like a lone wolf than a comrade.

When she finally spoke, her voice was low and edged with suspicion. "That figure… the one who watched us. He knew about you. About the System."

Rihan stiffened. "Yeah."

Elira glanced between them, confused. "System? What are you—"

Rihan cut her off quickly. "Not now. I'll explain… later."

For a moment, silence hung heavy. The group was united in victory, yet threads of mistrust had begun to weave between them.

The quiet was broken by the distant rumble of thunder. Clouds rolled across the horizon, swallowing the moonlight in their path. A cold wind swept through the valley, carrying with it the faint scent of ash.

Kael frowned. "Storm's coming."

Mira's eyes narrowed. "Not just a storm. Something else."

Almost on cue, the System's voice echoed faintly in Rihan's head.

[DING!]

Warning: Regional Corruption Density rising.

Safe zones collapsing.

Rihan clenched his fists. "So killing the Titan wasn't enough…"

Elira looked pale. "Then what will be?"

No one answered. The four of them stood amidst the ruins, battered and bleeding, staring into the shadows of a world that seemed to darken with every passing night.

The victory had been theirs.

But the war had only just begun.
