Chapter 321 - Chapter 7: THE HEIGHT YOU DARE TO CLIMB

Harry was speechless.

That was normal. He was just a boy not yet twelve.

After placing the glasses on Harry, Morin straightened and swept a cold gaze over Vernon and Petunia.

It happened too fast for them to react.

Moments ago, he had been a refined, suit-wearing "elite." Now he looked like a thug in a tuxedo, having kicked down a door with a single blow.

The contrast left the Dursleys stunned. And considering Morin's profession-

"I thought I had found two decent neighbors," Morin said flatly, the earlier warmth gone without a trace. "It seems that was just a mask. I think it's time I call the police. Given what you've done to... what is your name, child?"

"Harry. Harry Potter," Harry answered instinctively, still dazed.

"Excellent, Mr. Potter." Morin glanced at Vernon and Petunia with apparent understanding. "So you are unrelated to them. False imprisonment, child trafficking, abuse... It appears the first lawsuit I handle in England will be one I file myself."

"No, no!" Vernon snapped out of it, waving his hands wildly. "We didn't imprison him!"

"We didn't kidnap him!" Petunia shrieked. "He was dropped off by some people!"

"Dropped off?" Morin raised an eyebrow. "Then you are accomplices."

"He's our nephew!" Petunia blurted out.

"Nephew?" Morin looked at Harry-who was calmly brushing a spider off himself-then at the dark, filthy cupboard, and finally back at Vernon. "Do you take me for a fool?"

"This... this..." Petunia's eyes lit up. "Harry was just playing hide-and-seek with us!"

"I'll say it again." Morin looked at them as though they were idiots. "Do you take me for a fool?"

"You-you're trespassing!" Vernon remembered something Morin had mentioned earlier and pointed a shaking finger. "I'll take you to court unless you promise never to sue us!"

"Using my own tricks against me?" Morin sneered. He pulled a pen from his pocket and clicked it.

The recorder turned on.

Voices from earlier began to play. After a short while, Morin clicked it off.

Vernon, who had been trembling with excitement moments ago, went pale.

"This is witchcraft!" Petunia gasped, pointing at Morin.

"Witchcraft?" Morin shook his head. "That explains everything. You're ignorant. This is cutting-edge technology. Very expensive. A necessity for a top lawyer."

He paused.

"Any other excuses?"

"...He really is our nephew! We didn't abuse him!" Petunia finally broke down.

Her attempt to befriend Morin had failed completely. Not only had it failed-now she was facing a lawsuit. A terrifying lawyer. How much would he take? Everything they owned?

It was all that brat's fault.

She shot Harry a venomous look.

Harry shrank behind Morin. Even through the haze, he understood something important.

Morin was helping him.

"Harry..." Petunia forced a smile, her voice sickly sweet. "Tell the man. We were just playing hide-and-seek, weren't we?"

Harry shuddered. Not from warmth.

From fear.

"I... I..." he stammered.

"Harry," Vernon added gently-too gently. "Think carefully before you speak."

"Just tell the truth," Morin said, looking down at him. "Have the courage to try. You'll have a chance to change everything you hate, Mr. Potter."

"I-I wasn't!" Harry cried, then shouted, "They locked me up! They hurt me!"

"Well done." Morin ruffled his hair. "You've proven your courage."

He smiled faintly.

"Now let me change this situation for you. First, you'll stay with me for a few days. Is there anything you want to take with you?"

Harry shook his head.

The biscuits he'd treasured moments ago were meaningless now. What mattered was the light breaking through the darkness.

There was nothing else. If he could help it, he wouldn't even take the clothes he was wearing.

"Then I'll see you in court, Mr. Vernon. Mrs. Petunia." Morin looked at them calmly. "Hire the best lawyers in England. I'd be delighted to compete. Expect your summons."

"We were wrong!" Vernon collapsed, sobbing. "We'll change!"

"That's something to say in court," Morin replied. "Until then, Mr. Potter stays with me."

He turned away.

"Hire your lawyers."

Morin patted Harry's head and led him outside. They stepped over the Dursleys, reached the door, and closed it behind them with a heavy thud.

One sentence lingered in the air.

"The lawyer who can beat me in debate hasn't been born yet."

After all, if words fail, a physical debate still counts.

...

Harry felt unreal.

If not for the large hand ruffling his hair-solid, unmistakable-he might have thought he was dreaming.

Once he accepted reality, everything felt different.

The air was fresher. The sun brighter. The sky bluer.

"Change everything you hate..."

Maybe that was real.

And the price was courage.

"This is only the beginning, Mr. Potter," Morin said above him. Harry listened closely. "From today, you'll enter a world you've never heard of. A new world. One where you can let your light shine. The price will be more than courage."

"You... you know what I'm thinking?" Harry looked up.

"I do." Morin withdrew his hand. "Who you are is very different from who you think you are. After discussing it with Headmaster Dumbledore, I decided to tell you some things early. And rescue you."

"It definitely is!" Harry nodded quickly. "But... Headmaster Dumbledore?"

"The headmaster of the school you'll attend." Morin pointed at the door. It opened. "Let's go inside and talk."

"Did you just-"

"Simple magic," Morin said. "Who says a lawyer can't know magic? Or that a wizard can't be a lawyer? Think back, Mr. Potter. In your past, didn't you meet people who dressed strangely? Who acted oddly toward you?"

Harry froze.

Memories surfaced. A man in a violet top hat bowing to him. A green-clad old woman waving on a bus. A bald man in a purple coat shaking his hand.

They always vanished afterward.

He had thought he was imagining things.

But now-

Harry followed Morin inside. The door closed on its own.

No wind. No hands.

"...I don't know," Harry muttered.

"As a wizard, once you control the magic within you, you can do many things," Morin said, leading him to the living room. "Invisibility. Teleportation. Levitation."

He pointed.

The teapot rose, poured two cups, and floated over.

Morin sat and gestured.

Harry carefully took the cup.

"You can relax," Morin said. "This isn't next door."

"Thank you." Harry sipped and grimaced. "It's bitter."

Morin laughed. "And now?"

Harry blinked.

The bitterness was gone. Sweetness remained.

"Bitter first. Sweet later," Morin said. "Much like your life from now on."

He set the cup down.

"If you have questions, ask."

...

Next door, Vernon was pacing.

"What do we do?" he shouted. "This is your fault!"

"You agreed!" Petunia snapped.

"How dare you blame me!"

"I'm stating facts!" Petunia took a breath. "We can't let him sue us. We'll lose everything."

"He said the lawyer who can beat him hasn't been born yet!"

"He can lie!" Petunia said sharply.

"And if he's telling the truth?" Vernon wiped his face. "My business will be ruined."

Petunia narrowed her eyes.

"There's one way. Before he files. Besides paying him and living under his thumb forever."

They looked at each other.

"Those damn wizards."

"Where's that contact information?"

They tore the house apart, searching for the letter buried long ago.
