The camp made a different sound after a fight, and Sera Vahn had never once been able to describe it to a civilian.
It was not quieter. Four hundred people do not go quiet; there is more talking after, not less, and some of it is loud and a certain amount of it is laughing. What changes is the spacing. People stop crossing the ground between tents on the diagonal. They walk the lanes. They arrive at a place and stand outside it for a second before they go in.
She walked the line at the usual hour and counted the tents that had not been struck and then went and did the other count, which was the one that mattered, and which took her until the sixth hour of the morning because she did it by hand and by name.
Sixteen of Seven Peaks' nineteen dead were Seven Peaks. Three were not.
Two Imperial guards. One Confederacy.
