Valentina turned on the tap in the bathroom, and she burst into tears as she cleaned up her son.
There weren't enough words to describe the fear in her when she thought Luciano was taking him away.
She knew she was probably overreacting, but that was how she felt, and there was nothing she could do to change it.
"All good," she said through her tears as she finished cleaning him up.
He looked at her, his eyes exactly like her own eyes. It was as if he was telling her not to be sad.
"My beautiful boy," she responded with words from her heart.
Quickly, she rinsed off the tears from her face, before turning off the tap.
When she returned to the room, there was awkward tension gripping the air.
She picked up fresh diapers from the twins drawer, and sat on the bed.
No one said a word until she was done changing him.
With him still planted on her lap, she looked up.
"Let's get this over with," she said.
"Val," doctor Maxwell called out her name.
