Johnny had immense faith in his sixth sense, and it was remarkably accurate.
The gaze from the car in the distance made Johnny realize the danger, and he unhurriedly pulled out his phone.
"Hello, Daniel, I'm currently in front of the Societe Generale bank in France."
Less than three minutes after he hung up, Daniel appeared in front of Johnny, driving his peugeot 406.
Johnny calmly got into the car and then said to Daniel, "There are a few cars following me. It's all up to you now."
"What?"
Upon hearing Johnny's words, Daniel immediately became interested. "Hah, someone actually dares to follow you? Let's see if he can keep up with me."
Racing was one of Daniel's greatest passions.
As the white peugeot 406 started, the two cars behind it quickly followed.
At first, Daniel didn't immediately accelerate, but instead drove around like a regular taxi.
But as the cars behind got closer, and after Johnny urged him on, Daniel floored the accelerator.
"These little brats are in such a hurry. Well then, let them experience my speed and passion," Daniel said, running a hand through his short hair before accelerating.
Soon, the taxi was performing various extreme blade overtakes on the street.
He easily shook off the two trailing vehicles, leaving them far behind. Daniel then quickly stopped before an alley entrance, shifted into reverse, and with a turn of the wheel, backed into the alley.
Next, Daniel pulled a panel from the glove compartment with a violent shake, and as he fiddled with it, the entire car began to shake violently.
From the outside, one could see that a jack-like device rose from behind each of the car's wheels, lifting the taxi. Following this, a large body kit appeared at the front of the car, a spoiler at the rear, and air dams and diffusers on both sides.
In just one minute, the car transformed from an ordinary taxi into a racing car.
This was also why Daniel had continuously modified this car.
Daniel, in front of Johnny, removed the steering wheel and installed a racing steering wheel.
"Wait, let's see if they can catch up to me."
As he spoke, Daniel fiddled with the instrument panel next to him twice more, and Johnny distinctly felt the car's engine sound change.
Subsequently, the car once again drove out of the alley. The two cars, having realized something was amiss, had just reversed and happened to see the completely transformed taxi.
Daniel even recklessly stopped next to the two cars, rolled down his window, and taunted them, "You little brats, you want to track my client, do you? Come on, catch me if you can!"
With a stomp on the accelerator, the peugeot 406 let out a piercing roar and then sped away down the street.
The people in the cars looked at each other, stunned by Daniel's actions.
But they still gave chase, though they couldn't keep up with Daniel at all.
"Let me tell you, even if they swapped cars, there's no way they could catch me. This car has been modified and is almost at its performance peak. In Marseille, no one can catch this car!"
Listening to Daniel babble in his ear, Johnny completely ignored him and instead began to ponder who those two cars belonged to.
Logically, he hadn't made any enemies in France.
He had only just arrived in France, so how could he already be encountering people trying to kill him?
Who exactly were these people?
They didn't look like official agents, as his feud with the KGB had long been settled. Once Sen handed over the nuclear launch codes and Hendricks to them, the matter was closed.
Naturally, it was even less likely to be IMF agents, as they were all familiar with him. The CIA was even more impossible; with Anna around, he shouldn't be targeted by the CIA.
They also didn't seem like ICA assassins, as those guys usually operated alone and wouldn't deploy two carloads of people.
This left Johnny a bit confused.
Then, he pulled out his phone and called Veronica. "It's me, Johnny. I wanted to ask if there's been any news about a hit out on me recently?"
Hearing Johnny's direct question, Veronica paused, then chuckled, "Little brother, are you perhaps a bit paranoid?"
Veronica was currently sitting in a cafe, sipping coffee. "Who would be so bored as to bother the famous Mr. Night Owl?"
Veronica's words were not wrong; given Johnny's recent reputation, ordinary assassins wouldn't dare to cause him trouble.
And the name Night Owl had recently begun to spread, though it was unclear if someone was intentionally doing so.
Facing Veronica's teasing, Johnny could only ignore it. Since Veronica had no intelligence, then who else would be more knowledgeable about the underworld's issues?
Johnny, after hanging up, pondered deeply but still couldn't figure out a reason.
Suddenly, Daniel said to Johnny, "Oh, damn it, the car's almost out of gas, my dear Zhang. You might really have to find a place to get off."
Hearing Daniel's words, Johnny was speechless. "You scammer, why didn't you fill up the tank?"
"I didn't expect you to run into something like this either."
Daniel replied with an innocent look.
Well, even Johnny himself didn't know he'd run into a chase like this. Who could he even complain to?
Helpless, Johnny could only find a place to get out of the car.
The moment he closed the car door, the two pursuing cars were already not far away and had spotted him.
Damn it!
There was no time. Johnny immediately took off running, rushing into a nearby alley.
Even though he was an assassin, prepared and with good marksmanship, he still needed to be careful when facing a well-prepared and numerous opponent.
Otherwise, if he stumbled in a ditch, his reputation would be ruined.
The scene switches to the two cars chasing him. Upon seeing Johnny get out, they were instantly excited, each raising their guns.
After seeing Johnny run into the alley, they all said it was a sure thing.
Subsequently, the two cars stopped at the alley entrance, their doors opened, and ten people immediately rushed out. Each person held either an MP5, an AK-47, or an M4A1, and they charged into the alley.
The group came aggressively, but Johnny was no pushover. He found the best spot to confront these guys.
At the very end of the alley was a large open space with several containers, followed by a few concrete walls. It seemed people often practiced parkour here, so the items were quite cluttered.
Johnny was currently at the very end.
And the sounds of chaotic footsteps were gradually approaching, getting closer and closer.
